Deuteronomio 18

1 Los sacerdotes, los levitas, es decir, toda la tribu de Leví, no tendrán ninguna parte o herencia con Israel: su alimento y su herencia serán las ofrendas del Señor hechas por fuego.

The priests, who are Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, will have no portion nor inheritance with Israel; they must eat the offerings of Yahweh made by fire as their inheritance.

2 Y no tendrán herencia entre sus compatriotas: el Señor es su herencia, como él les ha dicho.

They must have no inheritance among their brothers; Yahweh is their inheritance, as he said to them.

3 Y esto es un derecho de los sacerdotes: los que hacen una ofrenda de una oveja o un buey deben entregar al sacerdote la parte superior de la pierna y los dos lados de la cabeza y el estómago.

This is the share given to the priests, given to them from the people who offer a sacrifice, whether it be an oxen or a sheep: the shoulder, the two cheeks, and the inner parts.

4 Y además tienes que darle lo primero de tu grano y vino y aceite, y la primera lana cortada de tus ovejas.

The firstfruits of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, you must give him.

5 Porque él, y sus hijos después de él para siempre, han sido escogidos por el Señor tu Dios de todas tus tribus, para hacer el trabajo de los sacerdotes en el nombre del Señor.

For Yahweh your God has chosen him out of all your tribes to stand to serve in the name of Yahweh, him and his sons forever.

6 Y si un levita, movido por un fuerte deseo, viene de cualquier ciudad en todo Israel donde vive al lugar señalado por el Señor;

If a Levite comes from any of your towns out of all Israel from where he is living, and desires with all his soul to come to the place Yahweh will choose,

7 Entonces hará la obra de un sacerdote en el nombre del Señor su Dios, con todos sus hermanos los levitas que están allí delante del Señor.

then he must serve in the name of Yahweh his God as all his brothers the Levites do, who stand there before Yahweh.

8 Su comida será igual a la de ellos, además de lo que le ha llegado como el precio de su propiedad.

They must have similar portions to eat, besides of what comes of the sale of his family's inheritance.

9 Cuando hayas venido a la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te está dando, no imiten los caminos repugnantes de esas naciones.

When you have come into the land that Yahweh your God is giving you, you must not learn to observe the abominations of those nations.

10 Que no se vea entre ustedes a nadie que haga que su hijo o su hija atraviesen el fuego, ni a nadie que practique la adivinación, ni pretenda predecir el futuro, ni a ningún hechicero.

There must not be found among you anyone who sacrifices his son or his daughter in the fire, anyone who uses divination or tells fortunes, or reads signs found in a cup, or engages in witchcraft,

11 O cualquier persona que practique encantamientos, o haga preguntas a un espíritu, adivinos, o vaya a los muertos para obtener instrucciones.

any charmer, anyone who conjurs up spirits, or one who casts spells, or who talks with spirits of the dead.

12 Porque todos los que hacen tales cosas son repugnantes para el Señor; y debido a estas cosas repugnantes, el Señor tu Dios supremo los expulsará de delante de ti.

For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh; it is because of these abominations that Yahweh your God is driving them out from before you.

13 Debes ser sincero de corazón ante el Señor tu Dios.

You must be blameless before Yahweh your God.

14 Porque estas naciones, cuya tierra estás tomando, prestan atención a los lectores del futuro a aquellos que usan las artes mágicas; pero el Señor tu Dios supremo no les ha permitido hacerlo.

For these nations that you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery and divination; but as for you, Yahweh your God has not allowed you to do so.

15 El Señor Tu Dios les dará un profeta de entre tu pueblo, como yo; y le obedecerán;

Yahweh your God will raise up for you a prophet from among you, one of your brothers, like me. You must listen to him.

16 Respondiendo a la petición que hiciste al Señor tu Dios en Horeb el día de la gran reunión, cuando dijiste: No dejes que la voz del Señor mi Dios vuelva a mis oídos, y no me dejes ver este gran fuego nunca más, o la muerte me alcanzará.

This is what you asked from Yahweh your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, 'Let us not hear again the voice of Yahweh our God, nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.'

17 Entonces el Señor me dijo: Bien han hablado lo que han dicho.

Yahweh said to me, 'What they have said is good.

18 Les daré un profeta de entre ellos, como tú, y pondré mis palabras en su boca, y él les dirá lo que yo le ordene que diga.

I will raise up a prophet for them from among their brothers, just like you. I will put my words in his mouth, and he will speak to them all that I command him.

19 Y el que no oiga mis palabras que dirá en mi nombre, será responsable ante mí.

It will happen that if anyone does not listen to the words of mine that he speaks in my name, I will require it of him.

20 Pero el profeta que se encarga de decir palabras en mi nombre que no le he dado órdenes de decir, o que dice algo en nombre de otros dioses, llegará a su muerte.

But the prophet who speaks a word arrogantly in my name, a word that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that very prophet must die.'

21 Y si dicen en sus corazones, ¿Cómo podemos estar seguros de que la palabra no viene del Señor?

This is what you must say in your heart: 'How will we recognize a message that Yahweh has not spoken?'

22 Cuando un profeta hace una declaración en el nombre del Señor, si lo que dice no tiene lugar y sus palabras no se hacen realidad, entonces su palabra no es la palabra del Señor; las palabras del profeta fueron dichas en el orgullo de su corazón, y no deben temerle.

You will recognize a message that Yahweh has spoken when a prophet speaks in the name of Yahweh. If that thing does not occur nor happen, then that is something that Yahweh has not spoken and the prophet has spoken it arrogantly, and you must not be afraid of him.
