Deuteronomio 17
1 Ningún buey u oveja que tenga defecto en él o que esté dañado de alguna manera puede ser ofrecido al Señor Tu Dios: porque eso es abominación para el Señor tu Dios.
Thou shalt not sacrifice unto Yahweh thy God a bullock or a sheep wherein is a blemish, any unseemly thing: for an abomination unto Yahweh thy God, it would be.
2 Si hay algún hombre o mujer entre ustedes, en cualquiera de los pueblos que el Señor tu Dios les ha dado, hace lo malo ante los ojos del Señor tu Dios, pecando contra su pacto,
When there shall be found in thy midst, within any of thy gates, which Yahweh thy God is giving unto thee, man or woman who doeth the thing which is wicked in the eyes of Yahweh thy God by transgressing his covenant;
3 Y se ha ido a servir a otros dioses y adorarlos a ellos, al sol, a la luna o a todas las estrellas del cielo, en contra de mis órdenes;
yea hath gone, and served other gods, and bowed down unto them, —whether unto the sun or unto the moon or unto any of the host of the heavens which I have not commanded;
4 Si les llega esta noticia a sus oídos, entonces, miren esto con cuidado, y si no hay duda de que es verdad, y tal mal se ha hecho en Israel;
and it shall be told thee and thou shalt hear, —and shalt enquire diligently, and lo! true—certain, is the report, this abominable thing hath been done in Israel,
5 Luego debes llevar al hombre o mujer que ha hecho el mal al lugar público de tu ciudad, y deben ser apedreados hasta que estén muertos.
then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman who hath done this wicked thing, within thy gates—the man, or the woman, —and shalt stone them with stones that they die.
6 En la palabra de dos o tres testigos, un hombre puede recibir el castigo de la muerte; pero no debe ser muerto en la palabra de un testigo.
At the mouth of two witnesses or three witnesses, shall he that is to die be put to death, —he shall not be put to death at the mouth of one witness.
7 Las manos de los testigos serán las primeras en darle muerte, y después de ellas las manos de todo el pueblo. Así debes quitar el mal de en medio de ti.
The hand of the witnesses, shall be upon him first to put him to death, and the hand of all the people, afterwards, —so shalt thou consume the wicked thing out of thy midst.
8 Si no pueden decidir quién es responsable de una muerte, quién tiene razón en una causa o quién dio el primer golpe en una pelea, hay una división de opinión al respecto en tu pueblo: entonces ve al lugar señalado por el Señor tu Dios;
When any matter of judgment, shall be too difficult for thee—between blood and blood between plea and plea or between stroke and stroke, matters of contention within thy gates, then shalt thou arise and go up unto the place which Yahweh thy God shall choose;
9 Y vengan ante los sacerdotes, los levitas o ante el que es juez en ese momento, y ellos entrarán en la pregunta y le darán una decisión.
and shalt come in unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge who shall be in those days, —and shalt enquire and they shall declare unto thee, the sentence of judgment;
10 Y debes guiarte por la decisión que tomen en el lugar nombrado por el Señor, y hacer lo que digan:
and thou shalt do according to the sentence which they shall declare unto thee, out of that place, which Yahweh, shall choose, —yea thou shalt observe to do according to all which they shall direct thee:
11 Actuando de acuerdo con su enseñanza y la decisión que tomen, no desviarse de un lado a otro por la palabra que les han dado.
according to the direction wherewith they direct thee and after the judgment which they shall announce to thee, shalt thou do, —thou shalt not turn aside from the sentence which they shall declare unto thee to the right hand or to the left.
12 Y cualquier hombre que, en su orgullo, no escuche al sacerdote cuyo lugar está allí ante el Señor tu Dios, o el juez, debe ser condenado a muerte. tú debes quitar el mal de Israel.
And, the man who shall do presumptuously by not hearkening unto the priest that standeth to minister there to Yahweh thy God, or unto the judge, that man shall die, and so shalt thou consume the wicked thing out of Israel.
13 Y todo el pueblo, al oírlo, se llenará de temor y dejará de ser su orgulloso.
And, all the people, shall hear and fear, —and shall not act presumptuously any more.
14 Cuando entres a la tierra que el Señor tu Dios les está dando, y la hayas tomado como herencia y vives en ella, si es tu deseo tener un rey sobre ti, como las otras naciones alrededor de ti;
When thou shalt enter into the land which Yahweh thy God is giving unto thee, and shalt possess it and dwell therein, —and shalt say—I will set over me a king, like all the nations that are round about me,
15 Luego, mira que tomes como rey a un hombre, el hombre nombrado por el Señor tu Dios: que su rey sea uno de tus compatriotas, no un hombre de otra nación que no sea compatriota.
thou shalt, set, over thee as king, him whom Yahweh thy God shall choose, —out of the midst of thy brethren, shalt thou set over thee a king, thou mayest not appoint over thee a man that is a foreigner, who is not thy brother.
16 Y él no debe reunir un gran ejército de caballos para sí mismo, ni hacer que la gente regrese a Egipto para conseguir caballos para él; porque el Señor ha dicho: nunca más volverás por ese camino.
Moreover he shall not multiply to himself horses, neither shall he cause the people to return to Egypt that he may multiply horses, —when, Yahweh, hath said unto you, Ye shall not again return this way any more.
17 Y no debe tener un gran número de esposas, por temor a que su corazón sea descarriado; tampoco gran riqueza de plata y oro.
Neither shall he multiply to himself wives, that his heart turn not aside, —nor silver and gold, shall he multiply to himself greatly.
18 Y cuando tome su lugar en el asiento de su reino, debe hacer en un libro una copia de esta ley, de la que los sacerdotes, los levitas, tienen a su cuidado.
But it shall be when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, then shall he write for himself a copy of this law upon a scroll, out of that which is before the priests the Levites:
19 Y siempre debe de estar con él para leer todos los días de su vida, para que pueda ser entrenado en el temor del Señor su Dios para guardar y hacer todas las palabras de esta enseñanza y estas leyes.
so shall it be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life, —that he may learn to revere Yahweh his God, to observe all the words of this law and these statutes to do them:
20 Para que no se crea superior su corazón a sus compatriotas, y para que no pueda ser apartado de los mandamientos, de un lado a otro, sino que su vida y las vidas de sus hijos puedan ser largas en su Reino en medio de Israel.
that his heart may not be lifted up above his brethren, and he may not turn aside from the commandment to the right hand or to the left, —that he may prolong his days over his kingdom—he and his sons, in the midst of Israel.
