Daniel 1
1 En el tercer año del gobierno de Joacim, rey de Judá, Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, vino a Jerusalén, y la cercó con su ejército.
In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylonia came to Jerusalem and surrounded the city to cut off all supplies to it.
2 Y el Señor entregó en sus manos a Joacim, rey de Judá, con algunos de los vasos de la casa de Dios; y los llevó a la tierra de Sinar a la casa de su dios; y puso las vasijas en el almacén del tesoro de su dios.
The Lord gave Nebuchadnezzar victory over Jehoiakim king of Judah, and he gave him some of the sacred objects from the house of God. He brought them into the land of Babylonia, to the house of his god, and he placed the sacred objects in his god's treasury.
3 Y el rey ordenó a Aspenaz, el capitán de sus sirvientes los eunucos, que acogiera a algunos de los hijos de Israel, ciertos de la familia del rey, y los de alta cuna;
The king spoke to Ashpenaz, his chief official, to bring in some of the people of Israel, both of the royal family and of the nobility—
4 Hombres jóvenes que eran fuertes y saludables sin defectos, apuestos y entrenados en toda sabiduría, con una buena educación y mucho conocimiento, y capaces de tomar posiciones en la casa del rey; y tenerlos entrenados en la escritura y el lenguaje de los caldeos.
young men without blemish, attractive in appearance, skillful in all wisdom, filled with knowledge and understanding, and qualified to serve in the king's palace. He was to teach them the Babylonians' literature and language.
5 Y el rey les ordenó una cantidad regular de comida y vino todos los días de la mesa del rey; y debían ser atendidos durante tres años para que al final de ese tiempo pudieran tomar su lugar ante el rey.
The king counted out for them a daily portion of his delicacies and some of the wine that he drank. These young men were to be trained for three years, and after that, they would serve the king.
6 Y entre estos estaban, de los hijos de Judá, Daniel, Ananias, Misael y Azarías.
Among these were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, some of the people of Judah.
7 Y el capitán de los criados eunucos les dio nombres; a Daniel le dio el nombre de Beltsasar, a Ananías el nombre de Sadrac, a Misael el nombre de Mesac, y a Azarías el nombre de Abed-nego.
The chief official gave them names: Daniel he called Belteshazzar, Hananiah he called Shadrach, Mishael he called Meshach, and Azariah he called Abednego.
8 Y Daniel había tomado la decisión de no hacerse inmundo con la comida o el vino del rey; así que le pidió al capitán de los sirvientes eunucos que le permitiera no contaminarse.
But Daniel intended in his mind that he would not pollute himself with the king's delicacies or with the wine that he drank. So he asked permission from the chief official that he might not pollute himself.
9 Y Dios uso en el corazón del capitán de los sirvientes eunucos sentimientos amables y misericordia por Daniel.
Now God gave Daniel favor and compassion through the respect that the chief official had for him.
10 Y el capitán de los sirvientes eunucos dijo a Daniel: Tengo miedo de mi señor el rey, que ha dado órdenes sobre tu comida y tu bebida; ¿Y si te ve de peor aspecto que los otros jóvenes gozosos? entonces pondrás mi cabeza en peligro ante el rey.
The chief official said to Daniel, “I am afraid of my master the king. He has commanded what food and drink you should have. Why should he see you looking worse than the other young men of your own age? The king might have my head because of you.”
11 Entonces Daniel dijo al guardián a cuyo cuidado el capitán de los sirvientes eunucos había puesto a Daniel, Ananías, Misael y Azarías:
Then Daniel spoke to the steward whom the chief official had assigned over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
12 Pon a prueba a tus siervos durante diez días; que nos den legumbres para nuestra comida y agua para nuestra bebida.
He said, “Please test us, your servants, for ten days. Give us only some vegetables to eat and water to drink.
13 Entonces mira nuestras caras y las caras de los jóvenes que tienen comida de la mesa del rey; y, habiéndose comparado, haz a tus sirvientes lo que te parezca correcto.
Then compare our appearance with the appearance of the young men who eat the king's delicacies, and treat us, your servants, based on what you see.”
14 Entonces él les escuchó en esto y los puso a prueba por diez días.
So the steward agreed with him to do this, and he tested them for ten days.
15 Y al final de diez días sus rostros parecían más agradables y eran más gordos de carne que todos los jóvenes que tenían su comida de la mesa del rey.
At the end of ten days their appearance was more healthy, and they were better nourished, than all the young men who ate the king's delicacies.
16 Entonces el guardián les quitaba regularmente la carne y el vino que iba a ser su bebida, y les daba grano.
So the steward took away their delicacies and their wine and gave them only vegetables.
17 Ahora, en cuanto a estos cuatro jóvenes, Dios les dio conocimiento y los hizo expertos en todo aprendizaje de libros y sabiduría; y Daniel era sabio en todas las visiones y sueños.
As for these four young men, God gave them knowledge and insight in all literature and wisdom, and Daniel could understand all kinds of visions and dreams.
18 Ahora, al final del tiempo fijado por el rey para que entraran, el capitán de los sirvientes eunucos los llevó a Nabucodonosor.
At the end of the time set by the king to bring them in, the chief official brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 Y el rey habló con ellos; y entre todos ellos no había nadie como Daniel, Ananías, Misael y Azarías; entonces se les dieron lugares delante del rey.
The king spoke with them, and among the whole group there were none to compare with Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. They stood before the king, ready to serve him.
20 Y en cualquier negocio que necesitará sabiduría y buen sentido, sobre el cual el rey les hacía preguntas, vio que eran diez veces mejores que todos los magos, nigromantes y astrólogos en todo su reino.
In every question of wisdom and understanding that the king asked them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and those who claimed to speak with the dead, who were in his entire kingdom.
21 Y Daniel continuó hasta el primer año del rey Ciro.
Daniel was there until the first year of King Cyrus.
