Daniel 5
1 El rey Belsasar hizo una gran fiesta para mil de sus nobles, y ante ellos bebió vino.
King Belshazzar held a great feast for one thousand of his nobles, and he was drinking wine with them.
2 Belsasar, mientras estaba abrumado por el vino, les ordenó que le presentaran los vasos de oro y plata que Nabucodonosor, su padre, había tomado del Templo en Jerusalén; para que el rey y sus señores, sus esposas y sus concubinas, puedan tomar su bebida de ellos.
Under the wine's influence Belshazzar ordered his servants to bring in the cups and bowls of gold and silver his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the Temple in Jerusalem so that he and his nobles, his wives and concubines, could drink from them.
3 Entonces tomaron los vasos de oro y plata que habían estado en el Templo de la casa de Dios en Jerusalén; y el rey y sus señores, sus esposas y sus concubinas, y bebieron vino.
So they brought in the gold cups and bowls that had been taken from the Temple of God in Jerusalem. The king and his nobles, his wives and concubines, drank from them.
4 Tomaron su vino y alabaron a los dioses de oro y plata, de bronce, hierro, madera y piedra.
As they drank wine they praised their gods—idols made of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone.
5 En esa misma hora se vieron los dedos de la mano de un hombre, escribiendo frente al soporte de la luz en la pared blanca de la casa del rey, y el rey vio la parte de la mano que estaba escribiendo.
Immediately the fingers of a human hand appeared, writing on the plaster wall of the king's palace, opposite the lampstand. The king watched the hand as it wrote.
6 Entonces el color desapareció de la cara del rey, y sus pensamientos lo perturbaron; se le fue la fuerza del cuerpo y le temblaban las rodillas.
His face turned pale, and he became very frightened. His legs gave way and his knees knocked together.
7 El rey, gritando en voz alta, dijo que los adivinos, los caldeos y los astrólogos, debían ser enviados a buscar. El rey respondió y dijo a los sabios de Babilonia: Quien sea capaz de descifrar este escrito y aclararme el significado, estará vestido de púrpura y tendrá una cadena de oro alrededor del cuello. Y ocupará el tercer lugar en mi reino, un gobernante de alta autoridad en el reino.
The king shouted, “Bring in the enchanters and astrologers and diviners!” He told these wise men of Babylon, “Anyone who can read this writing and explain it to me will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around his neck, and he will become the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”
8 Entonces entraron todos los sabios del rey, pero no pudieron distinguir la escritura ni darle la interpretación al rey.
However, after all the king's wise men had come in, they could not read the writing or explain to him what it meant.
9 Entonces el rey Belsasar estaba muy preocupado y el color desapareció de su rostro, y sus señores estaban perplejos.
This made King Belshazzar even more frightened and his face grew even paler. His nobles also were in panic.
10 La reina, a causa de las palabras del rey y sus señores, entró en la casa de la fiesta: la reina respondió y dijo: ¡Oh rey, ten vida para siempre; no te turben tus pensamientos ni dejes que el color se vaya de tu cara,
When the queen mother heard the noise the king and the nobles were making she went to the banquet hall. She said to Belshazzar, “May Your Majesty the king live forever! Don't be frightened! Don't look so pale!
11 Hay un hombre en tu reino en el cual está el espíritu de los dioses santos; y en los días de tu padre, la luz y la razón como la sabiduría de los dioses se veían en él; y el rey Nabucodonosor, tu padre, lo hizo jefe de los magos, y los adivinos, y los caldeos, y los astrólogos;
There's a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In your father's time he was found to have understanding and insight, and wisdom like that of the gods. Your Majesty's father, King Nebuchadnezzar put him in charge of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers, and diviners. Your father did this
12 Porque el espíritu más extraordinario, y el conocimiento y entendimiento, el poder de interpretar sueños y declarando dichos oscuros y solución de preguntas difíciles, se vieron en él, incluso en Daniel nombrado por el rey Beltsasar; ahora deje que Daniel venga y él aclare el significado de la escritura.
because Daniel, (called Belteshazzar by the king) was found to have an excellent mind, full of understanding and insight, and also able to interpret dreams, explain mysteries, and solve difficult problems. Call Daniel in and let him explain what this means to you.”
13 Entonces llevaron a Daniel delante del rey; El rey respondió y le dijo a Daniel: Así que tú eres ese Daniel, de los prisioneros de Judá, a quien mi padre sacó de Judá.
So Daniel was brought in before the king. The king asked him, “Are you Daniel, one of the prisoners my father the king brought from Judah?
14 Y he tenido noticias tuyas, que el espíritu de los dioses está en ti, y que la luz, entendimiento y la sabiduría extraordinaria se han visto en ti.
I have heard about you, that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that you were found to have understanding, insight, and great wisdom.
15 Y ahora los hombres sabios, los astrólogos, han sido traídos ante mí con el propósito de leer este escrito y darme la interpretación; pero no pueden interpretar él escrito.
Just now the wise men and enchanters were brought before me to read this writing and explain it to me, but they weren't able to do so—they couldn't tell me what it meant.
16 Y he tenido noticias tuyas, de que tienes el poder de aclarar las cosas y de responder preguntas difíciles; ahora, si eres capaz de interpretar lo escrito y darme la interpretación, estarás vestido en púrpura y tendrás una cadena de oro alrededor de tu cuello y serás tercero en alta autoridad en el reino.
However, I'm told that you are able to give interpretations and solve difficult problems. If you can read this writing and explain it to me, you will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around your neck, and you will become the third highest ruler in the kingdom.”
17 Entonces Daniel respondió y le dijo al rey: Guarda tus ofrendas para ti y da tus recompensas a otro; pero yo, después de leer la escritura al rey, le daré la interpretación.
Daniel answered the king, “Keep your gifts and give your rewards to another. Even so I will read the writing to Your Majesty and explain to you what it means.
18 En cuanto a ti, oh Rey, el Dios Altísimo le dio a Nabucodonosor, tu padre, el reino y gran poder, gloria y honor:
Your Majesty, the Most High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar this kingdom, and power, glory, and majesty.
19 Y debido al gran poder que le dio, todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas temblaban de miedo ante él; a algunos los mataba y a otros seguía viviendo, a su gusto, levantando a algunos y humillando a otros.
Because of the power he gave him, people of every nation and language trembled with fear before him. Those he wished to kill were killed, and those he wished to live were allowed to live. Those he wanted to honor were honored, and those he wanted to humble were humbled.
20 Pero cuando su corazón se enalteció su espíritu se endureció con orgullo, fue depuesto de su lugar como rey, y le quitaron su gloria;
But when he became arrogant and hard-hearted, acting proudly, he was removed from his royal throne and his glory was taken away from him.
21 Y fue enviado de entre los hijos de los hombres; y su corazón se hizo como las bestias, y vivía con los asnos de los campos; tenía hierba para su comida como los bueyes, y su cuerpo estaba mojado con el rocío del cielo, hasta que reconoció que el Altísimo es el gobernante en el reino de los hombres, y le da poder sobre los reinos a quien él quiere.
He was driven away from human society and his mind became like that of an animal. He lived with the wild donkeys and ate grass like cattle, and he was soaked with the dew of heaven until he acknowledged that the Most High rules over human kingdoms, and that he gives them to whoever he chooses.
22 Y tú, su hijo, oh Belsasar, no has humillado tu corazón, aunque sabías todo esto;
But you, Belshazzar, his son, have not humbled yourself, even though you knew all this.
23 Pero tú te has levantado contra el Señor del cielo, y ellos han puesto los vasos de su casa delante de ti, y tú y tus nobles, tus esposas y tus concubinas, han tomado vino en ellos; y han alabado a los dioses de plata y oro, de bronce, hierro, madera y piedra, que no tienen el poder de ver ni oír, y sin conocimiento, y al Dios en cuya mano está tu aliento, y de quién son todos tus caminos no has dado gloria;
You have arrogantly defied the Lord of heaven and you had the cups and bowls of his Temple brought to you. You and your nobles, your wives and concubines, drank wine from them as you praised gods made of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone that can't see or hear or know anything. But you have not honored God who holds in his hand your very breath and everything you do.
24 Entonces la parte de la mano fue alejada de su presencia, y esta escritura fue registrada.
That's why he sent the hand to write this message.
25 Y esta es la escritura que se registró, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPARSIN.
What was written on the wall was this: ‘Number, number, weigh, divide.’
26 Este es el sentido de las palabras: Mene; Dios ha contado tu reino y ha terminado.
Here is the meaning: Number—God has numbered your reign and brought it to an end.
27 Tekel; te han puesto en la balanza y te han visto bajo peso.
Weighed—you have been weighed on the balances and you were found lacking.
28 Uparsin; tu reino ha sido cortado y entregado a los medos y los persas.
Divided—your kingdom has been divided and given to the Medes and the Persians.”
29 Luego, por orden de Belsasar, le pusieron una túnica púrpura a Daniel, y una cadena de oro alrededor de su cuello, y se hizo una declaración pública de que iba a ser el tercero en alta autoridad en el reino.
Then Belshazzar gave the order and Daniel was clothed in purple and had a gold chain placed around his neck. He was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom.
30 Esa misma noche Belsasar, el rey de los caldeos, fue ejecutado.
On that very night Belshazzar, king of the Babylonians, was killed
31 Y Darío el Medo tomó el reino, teniendo entonces unos sesenta y dos años.
and Darius the Mede was given the kingdom at the age of sixty-two.
