Hechos 6

1 Ahora en aquellos días, cuando el número de discípulos iba en aumento, los judíos griegos protestaban contra los hebreos, porque sus viudas no eran atendidas en la distribución de alimentos todos los días.

Now, in these days, the number of the disciples being multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Hellenists that is, Jews who used the Greek language against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministrations.

2 Y los Apóstoles enviaron a todos los discípulos y dijeron: No es correcto que renunciemos a predicar la palabra de Dios para hacer la distribución de los alimentos.

And the twelve, having called the multitude of the disciples together, said, It is by no means agreeable, that we should leave the word of God to attend tables;

3 Toma, pues, de entre ustedes siete hombres de confianza, llenos del Espíritu Santo y de sabiduría, a quienes podamos ceder el control de esta responsabilidad.

therefore, brethren, look out from among yourselves seven men of an attested character, full of spirit and wisdom, whom we may set over this business;

4 Entonces daremos todo nuestro tiempo a la oración y la enseñanza de la palabra.

we will constantly attend to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

5 Y esta palabra fue grata para todos ellos: y escogieron a Esteban, un hombre lleno de fe y del Espíritu Santo, y Felipe y Prócoro, Nicanor, Timón, Parmenas y Nicolás de Antioquía, que se habían hecho judíos.

And the speech was pleasing to all the multitude, and they elected Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nichanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicholas, a proselyte of Antioch;

6 Estos se los llevaron a los Apóstoles, quienes, después de la oración, les impusieron las manos.

whom they presented before the Apostles; and they, having prayed, laid hands on them.

7 Y la palabra de Dios aumentaba en poder; y el número de los discípulos en Jerusalén llegó a ser muy grande, y un gran número de sacerdotes estaban de acuerdo con la fe.

And the word of God grew; and the number of disciples in Jerusalem was greatly multiplied; and a great multitude of the priests became obedient to the faith.

8 Y Esteban, lleno de gracia y poder, hizo grandes maravillas y señales entre la gente.

And Stephen, full of grace and power, wrought many miracles, and great signs among the people.

9 Pero algunos de los que eran de la sinagoga llamada “de los esclavos Liberados”, y algunos de los hombres de Cirene y de Alejandría, y los de Cilicia y Asia, discutieron con Esteban.

Then there arose some of the synagogue, which is called that of the Libertines, and of the Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and Asia, disputing with Stephen.

10 Pero no pudieron vencerlo, porque sus palabras estaban llenas de sabiduría y del Espíritu.

And they were not able to resist the wisdom and spirit with which he spoke.

11 Entonces llegaron los hombres a decir: le hemos oído decir: Él ha dicho mal contra Moisés y contra Dios.

Then they suborned men to say, We heard him speak reproachful words against Moses, and against God.

12 Y el pueblo, con los principales y los escribas, se apresuraron a arrestarlo, y vinieron y lo llevaron ante el Sanedrín,

And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and setting upon him, they dragged him away with them, and brought him to the Sanhedrim.

13 y obtuvieron falsos testigos que dijeron: Este hombre está por siempre diciendo cosas contra este lugar santo y contra la ley;

And they set up false witnesses, who said, This man is incessantly speaking against this holy place, and the law:

14 Porque él ha dicho en nuestra audiencia que este Jesús de Nazaret destruirá este lugar y hará cambios en las reglas que nos fue dada por Moisés.

for we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change its customs, which Moses delivered to us.

15 Y todos los que estaban en el Sanedrín, mirándolo, vieron que su rostro era como la cara de un ángel.

And all that sat in the Sanhedrim, fixing their eyes upon him, saw his countenance like the countenance of an angel.
