Hechos 5
1 Pero un hombre llamado Ananías, con Safira su esposa, obtuvo dinero por su propiedad,
Now a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession
2 y retuvo parte del precio, su esposa lo sabía, y tomó el resto y lo puso a los pies de los Apóstoles.
and kept back part of the price for himself, his wife also being party to it; bringing a certain part he placed it at the Apostles' feet.
3 Pero Pedro dijo: Ananías, ¿por qué el Maligno ha puesto en tu corazón mentir al Espíritu Santo, y retener parte del precio de la tierra?
So Peter said: “Ananias, on what basis has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the price of the land?
4 Mientras lo tenias, ¿no era de tu propiedad? y después de haberlo vendido, ¿todavía no estaba en tu poder? ¿que te posesionó para hacer esto? has mentido, no a los hombres, sino a Dios.
While it remained unsold was it not yours, and once sold was it not in your power? How is it that you have conceived this thing in your heart? You did not lie to men but to God.”
5 Al oír estas palabras, Ananías cayó muerto, y todos los que estaban presentes se llenaron de temor.
Well upon hearing these words Ananias fell down and expired! (Great fear came on all who heard these things.)
6 Y los jóvenes fueron, envolvieron el cuerpo, y lo llevaron a enterrar.
So the young men got up and wrapped him, and carrying him out they buried him.
7 Y unas tres horas después, su esposa, que no tenía conocimiento de lo que había sucedido, entró.
Now after an interval of some three hours his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.
8 Y Pedro le dijo: Dame una respuesta: ¿era esta cantidad de dinero el precio de la tierra? Y ella dijo: Sí, lo fue.
So Peter addressed her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much.” So she said, “Yes, for so much.”
9 Pero Pedro le dijo: ¿Por qué has hecho un pacto juntos para mentir al Espíritu del Señor? Mira, los pies de los jóvenes que han sepultado a tu esposo, están a la puerta, y ellos te sacarán.
Peter said to her: “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out!”
10 Y luego ella cayó muerta, y los jóvenes entraron la vieron muerta, y ellos la sacaron y la enterraron con su esposo.
So she immediately fell down at his feet and expired! So upon entering the young men found her dead, and carrying her out they buried her beside her husband.
11 Entonces vino un gran temor en toda la iglesia y en todos los que tenían conocimiento de estas cosas.
So great fear came on the whole assembly and on all who heard these things.
12 Y fueron hechas muchas señales y maravillas entre las personas por las manos de los apóstoles; y estaban todos juntos en acuerdo en el pórtico de Salomón.
Now many signs and wonders were being performed among the people by the hands of the Apostles; and they were all in Solomon's Porch with one purpose.
13 Los otros, temerosos, se abstuvieron de unirse a ellos, pero la gente los tenía en alta estima;
None of the rest dared to join them, but the people were magnifying them.
14 Y un gran número de hombres y mujeres tenían fe, y se unieron al Señor;
Believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women,
15 E incluso sacaron a la calle a personas que estaban enfermas y las pusieron en camas, de modo que cuando Pedro pasara, por lo menos su sombra cayera sobre ellos.
to the point that they kept carrying the sick into the streets, placing them on cots and pallets, so that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them.
16 Y se juntaron personas de las ciudades vecinas a Jerusalén, trayendo a los enfermos y los atormentados por espíritus inmundos; y todos fueron sanados.
Further, the multitude from the surrounding cities also kept coming into Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed.
17 Pero el sumo sacerdote y los que estaban con él (los saduceos) estaban llenos de envidia,
Then the high priest rose up, and all those with him (being the sect of the Sadducees); they were filled with jealousy
18 Y tomaron a los apóstoles y los pusieron en la prisión común.
and laid their hands on the Apostles and put them in the common prison.
19 Pero en la noche un ángel del Señor, abriendo las puertas de la prisión, los sacó y dijo:
But, during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison, and leading them out he said,
20 Ve, toma tu lugar en el Templo y dile a la gente toda la enseñanza acerca de esta Vida nueva.
“Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this Life.”
21 Al oír esto, entraron al templo al amanecer y estaban enseñando. Pero el sumo sacerdote y los que estaban con él reunieron al Sanedrín y a los representantes de los hijos de Israel, y los enviaron a la prisión para traer a los apóstoles.
So upon hearing it they entered the temple about daybreak and started to teach. Then the high priest and those with him arrived and convened the Sanhedrin, even all the council of elders of the sons of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
22 Pero los hombres que fueron enviados vieron que no estaban en la prisión, y volvieron con la noticia,
Well, upon arriving the operatives did not find them in the jail, so they returned and reported,
23 Diciendo: Las puertas de la prisión estaban cerradas con seguridad, y los guardianes estaban a la puerta, pero cuando estaban abiertos, allí no había nadie adentro.
saying: “We certainly found the prison securely locked, and the guards standing in front of the doors, but upon opening them we found no one inside!”
24 Ahora bien, ante estas palabras, el capitán del Templo y los principales sacerdotes se turbaron mucho acerca de lo que podría ser el final de este asunto.
Now when the high priest, the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these words, they were really perplexed as to what the implications might be.
25 Y vino alguien y les dijo: Los hombres a quienes metiste en la cárcel, están en el Templo enseñando a la gente.
But someone came and told them, “Hey, the men whom you put in the jail are standing in the temple and teaching the people!”
26 Entonces el capitán y algunos de la policía fueron y los tomaron, pero no violentamente, por temor de ser apedreados por el pueblo.
Then the captain went with the operatives and brought them without violence, because they were afraid that the people might stone them.
27 Y los llevaron al Sanedrín, y el sumo sacerdote les dijo:
So bringing them they set them before the Sanhedrin; and the high priest addressed them
28 Les dimos órdenes muy claras de no dar enseñanza en este nombre; y ahora Jerusalén está llena de sus enseñanzas, y ustedes están tratando de hacernos responsables de la muerte de este hombre.
saying: “Did we not emphatically command you not to teach in this name? Just look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man's blood on us!”
29 Pero Pedro y los Apóstoles, respondiendo, dijeron: Tenemos que obedecer las órdenes de Dios, no las de los hombres.
So in answer Peter and the Apostles said: “One must obey God rather than men.
30 El Dios de nuestros padres resucitó a Jesús, a quien ustedes mataron, colgándolo en la cruz.
The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you murdered by hanging on a tree.
31 A este Dios ha puesto en lo alto a su diestra, como Gobernante y Salvador, para dar a Israel arrepentimiento y el perdón de los pecados.
Him God has exalted to His right hand as Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
32 Y somos testigos de estas cosas, y también lo es el Espíritu Santo, a quien Dios ha dado a los que lo obedecen.
And we are witnesses to these statements about Him, as also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those obeying Him.”
33 Pero cuando estas palabras llegaron a sus oídos, fueron enfurecidos aún más, y tenían la intención de matarlos.
Well upon hearing it they became infuriated and started plotting to kill them.
34 Pero uno de los Sanedrín, un fariseo llamado Gamaliel, un doctor de la ley, quien era respetado entre todo el pueblo, se levantó e hizo una sugerencia para que los hombres fueran puestos afuera por un corto tiempo.
But someone in the council stood up (a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law respected by all the people) and commanded to put the Apostles out for a bit.
35 Y les dijo: Varones de Israel, piensen bien en lo que le van hacer a estos hombres.
He then said to them: “Men, Israelites, take heed to yourselves concerning these men, as to what you are about to do.
36 Antes de esto estaba Teudas, que dijo que era alguien importante, a quien unos cuatrocientos hombres le dieron su apoyo: lo mataron, y su grupo se rompió y quedó en nada.
For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody; with whom about four hundred men joined up; who was killed, and all who obeyed him were scattered and came to nothing.
37 Después de este hombre, estaba Judas de Galilea, en el momento del censo, y parte del pueblo lo siguió: fue ejecutado, y todos sus seguidores fueron dispersados.
Later Judas the Galilean rose up, in the days of the census, and drew away many people after him. He also perished, and all who obeyed him were dispersed.
38 Y ahora les digo que no hagan nada a estos hombres, y que no se metan con ellos; porque si esta enseñanza o esta obra es de los hombres, se desvanecerá.
So now I say to you, keep away from these men and leave them alone; because if this counsel or this work should be of men, it will be abolished;
39 Pero si es de Dios, no serán capaces de vencerlos, y estás en peligro de estar luchando contra Dios.
but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow it—lest you even be found to be fighting against God!”
40 Y les pareció que tenía razón; y enviaron a buscar a los Apóstoles, y, después de azotarlos y darles órdenes de no enseñar en el nombre de Jesús, los dejaron ir.
Well they were persuaded by him, and summoned the Apostles; after beating them they commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
41 Así que se alejaron del Sanedrín, felices de experimentar vergüenza por el Nombre.
So they went out rejoicing from the presence of the council, in that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name of the Christ.
42 Y todos los días, en el Templo y en privado, continuaron enseñando y predicando a Jesús como el Cristo.
And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not stop teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.
