Hechos 24

1 Y después de cinco días, el sumo sacerdote, Ananías, vino con algunos de los gobernantes, y un orador experto, un Tértulo; y le hicieron una declaración a Félix contra Pablo.

Five days later, Ananias the high priest came down to Caesarea with some of the elders, and with an orator, named Tertullus. They laid information before the governor against Paul.

2 Y cuando lo mandaron a buscar, Tertulo, comenzando su declaración, dijo: Porque en ti estamos viviendo en paz, y por tu sabiduría muchas mejoras se han hecho a nuestra nación,

So Paul was sent for, and then Tertullus began to accuse him, saying. "As it is owing to your excellency that we enjoy profound peace, and that the state of this nation,

3 en todo esto lo recibimos siempre en todo todas partes con gratitud, excelentísimo Félix.

"owing to your wise care, has been improved in every respect and in every place, we accept it with profound thankfulness.

4 Pero, para no quitarle mucho tiempo, le pido su misericordia, para escuchar una breve declaración.

"But not to weary you too much, I beg of your Excellency to listen to a few words from us.

5 Porque este hombre, en nuestra opinión, es una causa de problemas, un creador de ataques al gobierno entre judíos a través de todo el imperio, y cabecilla principal en la sociedad de los nazarenos:

"For we have found this fellow a pest, an inciter of insurrection among all the Jews of the empire, and a ringleader in the heresy of the Nazarenes.

6 Que, además, estaba tratando de hacer el templo inmundo: a quien tomamos,

"He even tried to profane the Temple, but we arrested him.

7 Pero interviniendo el tribuno Lisias se metió y con mucha fuerza nos lo quitó de nuestras manos.

"Then the chief captain, Lysias came and violently took him from us.

8 Usted mismo podrá, cuestionarlo, y obtendrá la verdad de todas las cosas que decimos contra él.

From him you will be able, by examining Paul yourself, to learn the truth of all these charges we are bringing against him."

9 Y los judíos estaban de acuerdo con su declaración, diciendo que estas cosas eran así.

The Jews also joined in the charge, maintaining that these were the facts.

10 Entonces, cuando el gobernante le dio una señal para que respondiera, Pablo dijo: Como sé que ha sido juez de esta nación durante varios años, me alegra dar mi respuesta:

Then at a nod from the governor, Paul spoke. "Because I know that for many years you have been a judge in this nation, I feel encouraged to make my defense.

11 Como usted mismo puede cerciorarse de que no han pasado más de doce días desde que fui a Jerusalén a adorar a Dios;

"For you have it in your power to know that it is not more than twelve days ago that I went up to Jerusalem to worship;

12 Y no me han visto discutiendo con ningún hombre o amotinando a la gente en el Templo, en las sinagogas o en la ciudad:

"and that neither in the Temple, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city, did they find me disputing with any man or stirring up a crowd.

13 Y no pueden dar hechos en apoyo de las cosas que dicen en mi contra ahora.

"Nor can they prove the charges which they are now bringing against me.

14 Pero esto diré abiertamente, que doy culto al Dios de nuestros padres después de ese nuevo Camino, que para ellos no es la verdadera religión; pero tengo fe en todas las cosas que están en la ley y en el libros de los profetas:

"But this I confess to you, that I worship the God of our ancestors, according to the Way which they call a heresy, believing everything that is according to the Law, or is written in the Prophets,

15 Esperando en Dios por lo que ellos mismos están buscando, que habrá una resurrección de los muertos, así como para justos e injustos.

"and having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there is to be a resurrection both of the just and the unjust.

16 Y en esto, hago lo mejor que puedo en todo momento para no tener una conciencia sin ofensas ante Dios o los hombres.

"Hence I too endeavor to have a conscience void of offense toward God and men alway.

17 Después de algunos años, vine a ayudar y ofrendas a mi nación:

"Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and to offer sacrifices.

18 Y habiendo sido purificado, estuve en el Templo, pero no con gran número de personas, y no con ruido; pero había ciertos judíos. de Asia,

"While I was thus engaged, they found me in the temple, purified, with no crowd and no uproar. But there were certain Asiatic Jews

19 Y hubiera sido mejor si hubieran venido aquí para hacer una declaración, si tienen algo en mi contra.

"who ought to have been here before you, and to have made accusations if they had anything against me.

20 O dejen que estos hombres aquí presentes digan lo que se vio en mí cuando estuve ante el Sanedrín,

"Or let these men themselves say what fault they found, when I appeared before the Sanhedrin!

21 Pero solo esto que dije entre ellos en voz alta, estoy siendo juzgado este día sobre la cuestión de la resurrección de los muertos.

"Unless it was for this one sentence which I uttered when I stood and cried, ‘It is for the resurrection of the dead that I am on my trial today before you.’"

22 Pero Félix, que tenía un conocimiento más detallado del nuevo Camino, los desistió, diciendo: Cuando Lisias, el capitán jefe, baje, le prestaré atención a sus asuntos.

At this point Felix, who had a pretty accurate knowledge of the Way, adjourned the case, saying to the Jews, "When Lysias the tribune comes down, I will go carefully into the matter."

23 Y ordenó al capitán que mantuviera a Pablo bajo su control y que le dejara tener todo lo que necesitaba; y no impedir que sus amigos vengan a verle y servirle.

And he gave orders to the centurion that Paul should be kept in custody, but treated with indulgence, and that his personal friends were not to be forbidden to minister to him.

24 Pero después de algunos días, Félix vino con Drusila, su esposa, que era de los judíos por nacimiento, y envió a buscar a Pablo, y le oyó acerca de la fe en Cristo Jesús.

Some days later Felix came, with his wife Drusilla, a Jewess; he sent for Paul, and listened to him concerning the faith in Christ Jesus.

25 Y mientras él hablaba sobre una vida de rectitud y el dominio propio y el juicio que estaba por venir, Félix tuvo un gran temor y dijo: Vete por ahora, y cuando llegue el momento adecuado, te enviaré por ti.

And as he reasoned about morality, self-control, and the future judgment, Felix was terrified, and said, "For the present go on your way, and when I find a convenient season, I will send for you."

26 Porque esperaba que Pablo le diera dinero, así que lo mandó llamar con más frecuencia y conversaba con él.

He was hoping that Paul would give him money, and for this reason he used to send for him often to converse with him.

27 Pero después de dos años, Porcio Festo tomó el lugar de Félix, quien, queriendo tener la aprobación de los judíos, mantuvo a Pablo encadenado.

But after two full years Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, and because he wished to curry favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul still in prison.
