2 Samuel 17
1 Entonces Ahitofel dijo a Absalón: Déjame sacar doce mil hombres y esta misma noche iré tras David.
Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Let me choose twelve thousand men and set off in pursuit of David tonight.
2 Y subiré con él cuando esté cansado y débil, y lo llenaré de temor. Y todas las personas que están con él huirán; y haré un ataque al rey solamente.
I'll attack him while he is tired and weak. I'll catch him by surprise and all his men will run away. I'll only kill the king
3 Y haré que todas las personas regresen a ti. Es la vida de un solo hombre a quien quieres; así todo el pueblo estará en paz.
and bring everybody else back to you. When everybody returns apart from the one man you're after, the whole country will be at peace.”
4 Y el dicho agradó a Absalón y a los hombres responsables de Israel.
This plan looked good to Absalom and to all the elders of Israel.
5 Entonces Absalón dijo: Envía ahora a Husai el Arquita, y escuchemos lo que tiene que decir.
But then Absalom said, “Call in Hushai the Archite too, and let's hear what he's got to say as well.”
6 Y cuando llegó Husai, Absalón le dijo: Esto es lo que dijo Ahitofel: ¿debemos hacer lo que él dice? Si no, ¿cuál es tu sugerencia?
When Hushai came in, Absalom, asked him, “Ahithophel has recommended this plan. Should we go ahead with it? If not, what's your suggestion?”
7 Y Husai dijo a Absalón: La idea de Ahitofel no es buena en este momento.
“For once Ahithophel's advice isn't good,” Hushai replied.
8 Hushai dijo además: Tú tienes conocimiento de tu padre y sus hombres, que son hombres de guerra y que sus sentimientos son amargos, como los de un oso en el campo cuyos cachorros le han sido arrebatados: y tu padre es un hombre de guerra, y no tomará su noche de descanso con la gente;
“You know what your father and his men are like. They're great fighters, and now they're as furious as a she-bear robbed of her cubs. In any case, your father is experienced in military tactics, and he won't spend the night with his men.
9 Pero ciertamente se habrá escondido en una cueva o lugar secreto; y si algunos de los nuestros, en el primer ataque, son vencidos, cualquier audiencia dirá: hay destrucción entre las personas que están del lado de Absalón.
Right now he's holed up in a cave or some place like that. If he attacks first and some of your men are killed, people who hear about it will say, ‘Absalom's men are being slaughtered.’
10 Entonces, incluso el más fuerte, cuyo corazón es como el corazón de un león, se desanimará; porque todo Israel es consciente de que tu padre es un hombre de guerra, y los que están con él son fuertes y sin miedo.
Then even the bravest soldier who has the heart of a lion will be scared to death, because everyone in Israel knows that your father is a powerful man who has brave men with him.
11 Pero mi sugerencia es que todo Israel, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, se reúna con ustedes, un gran ejército como las arenas del mar en número; y que tú mismo salgas entre ellos.
My recommendation is that you call up the entire Israelite army from Dan to Beersheba—an army as numerous as the sand on the seashore! Once they've assembled, then you yourself lead them into battle!
12 Entonces lo veremos en algún lugar, dondequiera que esté, cayendo sobre él al igual que el rocío sobre la tierra. Y de él y de todos los hombres que están con él, ninguno se saldrá con la vida.
Then we'll attack David wherever he is, and we'll fall on him as dew falls on the ground. Neither he nor a single one of all the men with him will be left alive!
13 Y si él ha entrado en alguna ciudad, entonces todo Israel debe llevar cuerdas fuertes a esa ciudad, y los arrastraremos hacia el valle, hasta que no se vea una piedra pequeña allí.
If he tries to find protection in a town, all of Israel will bring ropes to that town, and we will pull it down into the valley so that not even a stone will be left.”
14 Entonces Absalón y todos los hombres de Israel dijeron: La sugerencia de Husai es mejor que la de Ahitofel. Porque el propósito del Señor era hacer que los sabios designios de Ahitofel no tuvieran efecto, para que el Señor enviará el mal a Absalón.
Absalom and all the Israelite leaders said, “Hushai the Arkite's advice is better than Ahithophel's.” For the Lord had decided to block Ahithophel's good advice in order that he might bring disaster on Absalom.
15 Entonces Husai dijo a Sadoc y Abiatar, los sacerdotes: Esta es la sugerencia hecha por Ahitofel a Absalón y a los hombres responsables de Israel, y esto es lo que les dije.
Hushai spoke to Zadok and Abiathar, the priests, and told them, “Ahithophel has advised Absalom and the Israelite leaders to act in one way, but I have advised them to act in this different way.
16 Ahora envíe las noticias rápidamente a David y diga: No tome su descanso nocturno por el camino a través de las tierras baldías, sino asegúrese de pasar; o el rey y todas las personas con él serán destruidos.
So send a message quickly to David and tell him, ‘Don't wait and spend the night at the fords of the wilderness, but cross over immediately or the king and everybody with him will be destroyed.’”
17 Ahora Jonatán y Ahimaas estaban esperando junto a En-rogel; y una sirvienta fue de vez en cuando y les dio noticias y fueron con las noticias al rey David, ya que no era prudente que se dejarán ver en la ciudad.
Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying at En-rogel because they couldn't be seen entering the city. A servant girl would come and tell them what was happening. Then they would go and let King David know.
18 Pero un niño los vio y se lo comunicó a Absalom; de modo que los dos se fueron rápidamente y llegaron a la casa de un hombre en Bahurim que tenía un pozo de agua en su jardín,
But a boy did see them and he told Absalom. So the two left immediately and went to the house of a man in the town of Bahurim. He had a well in his courtyard, and they climbed into it.
19 Y una mujer cubrió el agujero con una tapa, y puso encima un grano triturado, y nadie lo supo.
His wife took a cloth to cover the well and spread it out over the opening and then scattered grain over it. No one knew the men were there.
20 Y los siervos de Absalón se acercaron a la mujer de la casa y dijeron: ¿Dónde están Ahimaas y Jonatán? Y la mujer les dijo: Han ido de aquí al arroyo. Y después de buscarlos y no ver nada de ellos, regresaron a Jerusalén.
When Absalom's officers arrived they asked the woman, “Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?” “They crossed over the stream,” she replied. The men searched for them but didn't find them, so they went back to Jerusalem.
21 Cuando se fueron los criados, salieron del pozo y fueron a dar al rey David la noticia; y dijeron: Levántate y ve rápidamente sobre el río Jordán, porque tal y cual es el diseño de Ahitofel contra ti.
After Absalom's officers left, the two men climbed out of the well and rushed off to give the king their message. “Have everybody get up and cross the river right away, for Ahithophel's advice is to attack you immediately.”
22 Entonces David y todas las personas que estaban con él subieron por el Jordán al amanecer, todos habían cruzado el Jordán.
David and everybody with him got up and crossed the Jordan. By the time it got light there wasn't anybody who hadn't crossed over.
23 Cuando Ahitofel vio que su sugerencia no se había cumplido, alistó su asno y regresó a su casa, a la ciudad de donde venía, y habiendo puesto su casa en orden, fue y se ahorcó; así que llegó a su fin y fue enterrado en el sepulcro de su padre.
When Ahithophel realized that his advice had been ignored, he saddled up his donkey and left for his home in the town where he lived. He put his affairs in order and then he hanged himself. He died and was buried in his father's tomb.
24 Y vino David a Mahanaim. Y Absalón, con todos los hombres de Israel, pasó por el Jordán.
David went on to Mahanaim, and Absalom crossed over the Jordan with the entire Israelite army.
25 Y Absalón puso a Amasa a la cabeza del ejército en lugar de Joab. Ahora Amasa era hijo de un hombre llamado Itra, el ismaelita, que había sido amante de Abigail, hija de Nahas, hermana de Sarvia, la madre de Joab.
Absalom had put Amasa in charge of the army to replace Joab. Amasa was the son of a man named Ithra, the Ishmaelite who lived with Abigail, the daughter of Nahash and sister of Zeruiah, Joab's mother.
26 E Israel y Absalón levantaron sus campamentos en la tierra de Galaad.
The Israelites under Absalom set up camp in the land of Gilead.
27 Cuando David había venido a Mahanaim, salieron a recibirlo Sobi, el hijo de Nahas de Rabá, el Amon, y Maquir, el hijo de Amiel de Lodebar, y Barzilai de Galaad de Rogelim,
When David arrived at Mahanaim, he was welcomed by Shobi, son of Nahash, from Rabbah of the Ammonites, Machir, son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim.
28 Con camas y lavabos y ollas, y grano y harina, y todo tipo de alimentos secos,
They brought bedding, bowls, and clay jars, as well as wheat, barley, flour, roasted grain, beans, lentils,
29 Y miel y manteca y ovejas y quesos de leche, para David y su pueblo; porque decían: Este pueblo viene del desierto, que necesita comida, bebida y descanso.
honey, curds, sheep, and cheese made from cow's milk for David and the people with him to eat. For they said, “The people are hungry, tired, and thirsty from their time in the wilderness.”
