1 Entonces los hijos de los profetas dijeron a Eliseo: No hay lugar suficiente para nosotros en el lugar donde vivimos a tu cuidado;
And the children of the Prophets saide vnto Elisha, Behold, we pray thee, the place where we dwell with thee, is too litle for vs.
2 Así que vamos al río Jordán déjanos que todos trabajen cortando tablas, y allí nos construiremos un lugar para vivir. Y él les dijo: Ve, entonces.
Let vs nowe goe to Iorden, that we may take thence euery man a beame, and make vs a place to dwell in. And he answered, Goe.
3 Y uno de ellos dijo: Acompañanos. Y él dijo: Yo iré.
And one said, Vouchsafe, I pray thee, to go with thy seruants, and he answered, I will goe.
4 Y él fue con ellos. Y cuando llegaron al Jordán, se pusieron a trabajar talando árboles.
So he went with them, and when they came to Iorden, they cut downe wood.
5 Pero uno de ellos, mientras cortaba una viga, dejó caer la cabeza de su hacha en el agua; Y él dio un grito y dijo: Este es un problema, mi maestro, porque era prestada.
And as one was felling of a tree, the yron fell into the water: then he cryed, and said, Alas master, it was but borowed.
6 Y el hombre de Dios dijo: ¿A dónde fue que cayó? y cuando vio el lugar donde había entrado en el agua, cortando un palo, lo puso en el agua y el hierro subió a la superficie del agua.
And the man of God saide, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. Then he cut downe a piece of wood, and cast in thither, and he caused the yron to swimme.
7 Entonces él dijo: Tómalo. Entonces él extendió su mano y la tomó.
Then he saide, Take it vp to thee. And he stretched out his hand, and tooke it.
8 En ese momento, el rey de Siria estaba haciendo la guerra contra Israel; y se reunió con los jefes de su ejército y dijo: Estaré acampando en ciertos lugares.
Then the King of Aram warred against Israel, and tooke counsell with his seruants, and said, In such and such a place shalbe my campe.
9 Y el hombre de Dios envió al rey de Israel, diciendo: Cuídate de mantenerte alejado de ese lugar, porque los sirios están esperando allí en secreto.
Therefore the man of God sent vnto the King of Israel, saying, Beware thou goe not ouer to such a place: for there the Aramites are come downe.
10 Entonces el rey de Israel envió al lugar donde el hombre de Dios había dicho que había peligro, y se mantuvo alejado de él más de una vez.
So the King of Israel sent to the place which the man of God tolde him, and warned him of, and saued himselfe from thence, not once, nor twise.
11 Y ante esto, la mente del rey de Siria se turbó mucho, y él envió a sus siervos y les dijo: ¿Diganme quien de nosotros está ayudando al rey de Israel?
And the heart of the King of Aram was troubled for this thing: therefore he called his seruants and saide vnto them, Will ye not shewe me, which of vs bewrayeth our counsel to the king of Israel?
12 Y uno de ellos dijo: Ninguno de nosotros, mi señor rey; pero Eliseo, el profeta en Israel, le da al rey de Israel noticias de las palabras que dices incluso en tu dormitorio.
Then one of his seruants saide, None, my lorde, O King, but Elisha the Prophet that is in Israel, telleth the King of Israel, euen the wordes that thou speakest in thy priuie chamber.
13 Entonces él dijo: Ve y mira dónde está, para que yo pueda enviarlo a buscarlo. Y le llegaron noticias de que estaba en Dotán.
And he said, Goe, and espie where he is, that I may sende and fetch him. And one tolde him, saying, Beholde, he is in Dothan.
14 Entonces envió allí caballos y carruajes y un gran ejército; Y vinieron de noche, dando vueltas por el pueblo.
So he sent thither horses, and charets, and a mightie hoste: and they came by night, and compassed the citie.
15 El siervo del hombre de Dios, levantándose temprano y saliendo, vio un ejército de caballos y carruajes de guerra por toda la ciudad. Y el criado le dijo: Oh, señor mío, ¿qué vamos a hacer?
And when the seruant of the man of God arose earely to goe out, beholde, an hoste compassed the citie with horses and charets. Then his seruant sayde vnto him, Alas master, howe shall we doe?
16 Y él respondió: No temas; los que están con nosotros son más que los que están con ellos.
And he answered, Feare not: for they that be with vs, are moe then they that be with them.
17 Entonces Eliseo hizo una oración al Señor, diciendo: Señor, deja que sus ojos estén abiertos para que pueda ver. Y el Señor abrió los ojos del joven; y vio que toda la montaña estaba llena de caballos y carruajes de fuego alrededor de Eliseo.
Then Elisha prayed, and saide, Lord, I beseech thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the seruant, and he looked, and beholde, the mountaine was full of horses and charets of fyre round about Elisha.
18 Cuando los sirios bajaron a Eliseo, él hizo una oración al Señor diciendo: Señor, haz que este pueblo sea ciego. Y los hizo ciegos a petición de Eliseo.
So they came downe to him, but Elisha prayed vnto the Lord, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindnesse. And he smote them with blindnes, according to the worde of Elisha.
19 Y Eliseo les dijo: Este no es el camino, y este no es el pueblo; vengan conmigo para que pueda llevarlos al hombre que están buscando. Y los llevó a Samaria.
And Elisha said vnto them, This is not the way, neither is this the citie: follow me, and I will leade you to the man whome ye seeke. But he ledde them to Samaria.
20 Y cuando llegaron a Samaria, dijo Eliseo: Señor, abre los ojos de estos hombres para que vean. Y el Señor les abrió los ojos, y vieron que estaban en medio de Samaria.
And when they were come to Samaria, Elisha saide, Lord, open their eyes that they may see. And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw, and beholde, they were in the mids of Samaria.
21 Y cuando el rey de Israel los vio, dijo a Eliseo: Padre mío, ¿acaso los atacamos con arco y la espada?
And the King of Israel sayde vnto Elisha when he sawe them, My father, shall I smite them, shall I smite them?
22 Pero él respondió: No debes matarlos; ¿Tienes algún derecho a dar muerte a aquellos a quienes no has hecho prisioneros con tu espada y tu arco? Pon el pan y el agua delante de ellos, para que puedan comer y beber e ir a su amo.
And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: doest thou not smite them that thou hast taken with thy sworde, and with thy bowe? but set bread and water before them, that they may eate and drinke and goe to their master.
23 Entonces les preparó un gran banquete, y cuando terminaron de comer y beber, los despidió y regresaron a su señor. Y no más bandas de sirios llegaron a la tierra de Israel.
And he made great preparation for them: and when they had eaten and drunken, he sent them away: and they went to their master. So ye bands of Aram came no more into the land of Israel.
24 Después de esto, Ben-adad, rey de Siria, reunió a todo su ejército y subió para atacar a Samaria, cerrando la ciudad por todos lados con su ejército.
But afterward Ben-hadad King of Aram gathered all his hoste, and went vp, and besieged Samaria.
25 Y en Samaria se quedaron muy cortos de comida; porque lo mantuvieron cerrado hasta que el precio de la cabeza de un asno era de ochenta siclos de plata, y una pequeña cantidad de excrementos de palomas eran cinco siclos de plata.
So there was a great famine in Samaria: for loe, they besieged it vntill an asses head was at foure score pieces of siluer, and the fourth part of a kab of doues doung at fiue pieces of siluer.
26 Y cuando el rey de Israel pasaba por el muro, una mujer vino a gritarle y le dijo: ¡Ayuda! mi señor rey.
And as the King of Israel was going vpon the wall, there cryed a woman vnto him, saying, Helpe, my lord, O King.
27 Y él dijo: Si el Señor no te ayuda, ¿dónde voy a buscarte ayuda? ¿Desde el suelo de grano o la trituradora de uvas?
And he said, Seeing the Lord doeth not succour thee, howe shoulde I helpe thee with the barne, or with the wine presse?
28 Y el rey le dijo: ¿Qué te preocupa? Y ella respondió: Esta mujer me dijo: Dame a tu hijo que sea nuestra comida hoy, y mañana tendremos a mi hijo.
Also the King said vnto her, What ayleth thee? And she answered, This woman sayde vnto me, Giue thy sonne, that we may eate him to day, and we will eate my sonne to morowe,
29 Entonces, hirviendo a mi hijo, comimos de él; Y al día siguiente, después de decirle, dame a tu hijo para comer; Pero ella ha puesto a su hijo en un lugar secreto.
So we sod my sonne, and did eate him: and I saide to her the day after, Giue thy sonne, that we may eate him, but she hath hid her sonne.
30 Entonces el rey, escuchando lo que dijo la mujer, tomó sus ropas en sus manos, separándolas was violentamente; y, mientras caminaba por la pared, la gente, mirando, vio que debajo de su túnica tenía ropas ásperas.
And when the King had heard the wordes of the woman, he rent his clothes, (and as he went vpon the wall, the people looked, and behold, he had sackecloth within vpon his flesh)
31 Luego dijo: Que el castigo de Dios venga conmigo si Eliseo, el hijo de Safat, mantiene su cabeza sobre su cuerpo después de este día.
And he saide, God doe so to me and more also, if the head of Elisha the sonne of Shaphat shall stande on him this day.
32 Pero Eliseo estaba en su casa, y los hombres responsables estaban sentados allí con él; y antes de que llegara el rey, Eliseo dijo a los que estaban con él: ¿Ven cómo este hombre cruel y violento ha enviado para quitarme la vida?
(Nowe Elisha sate in his house, and the Elders sate with him.) And the King sent a man before him: but before the messenger came to him, he saide to the Elders, See ye not howe this murtherers sonne hath sent to take away mine head? take heede when the messenger commeth, and shut the doore and handle him roughly at the doore: is not the sounde of his masters feete behinde him?
33 Mientras él todavía les estaba hablando, el mensajero bajó y dijo: Este mal es del Señor, ¿Por qué voy a seguir esperando más al Señor?
While he yet talked with them, beholde, the messenger came downe vnto him, and saide, Behold, this euill commeth of the Lord: should I attende on the Lord any longer?
