1 Cuando Atalía, la madre de Ocozías, vio que su hijo estaba muerto, ella hizo que todo el resto de la simiente del reino fuera muerto.
When Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, saw that her son was dead, she had all the rest of the royal family murdered.
2 Más Josaba, la hija del rey Joram, hermana de Ocozías, tomó en secreto a Joás, hijo de Ocozías, con la mujer que lo cuidaba, lejos de entre los hijos del rey que fueron ejecutados, y él y la nodriza se escondieron en el dormitorio; y lo mantuvieron a salvo de Atalía, para que no fuera condenado a muerte.
But Jehosheba, daughter of King Jehoram, sister of Ahaziah, took Ahaziah's son Joash, stealing him away from the rest of the sons of the king who were being killed. She put him and his nurse in a bedroom to hide him from Athaliah, and he was not murdered.
3 Y por seis años lo mantuvo a salvo en la casa del Señor, mientras Atalía estaba gobernando la tierra.
Joash stayed hidden in the Lord's Temple for six years while Athaliah ruled the country.
4 Luego, en el séptimo año, Joiada mandó llamar a los capitanes de cientos de cereteos hombres armados, y llevándolos a la casa del Señor, hizo un acuerdo con ellos y les hizo prestar juramento la casa del Señor, y les mostró al hijo del rey.
In the seventh year, Jehoiada sent for the commanders of hundreds, the Carites, and the guards, and brought them into the Lord's Temple. He made an agreement with them and made them swear an oath. There in the Lord's Temple he showed them the king's son
5 Y les dio órdenes, diciendo: Esto es lo que deben hacer: la tercera parte de ustedes, vigile la casa del rey el día de reposo, el sábado,
and ordered them, “This is what you are going to do: One third of you who come on duty on the Sabbath will guard the royal palace.
6 Otra tercera parte estaré en el Sur, y la otra tercera parte parte en la puerta posterior del cuartel de la guardia. Así cubrirán ustedes por turnos la guardia del palacio.
One third will be at the Sur Gate, and one third at the gate behind the guards. You will alternate in guarding the palace.
7 Y las dos divisiones de ustedes, que salen el sábado y vigilan el templo del Señor junto al rey.
The two divisions that would normally go off duty on the Sabbath will guard the Lord's Temple for the king.
8 Harán un círculo alrededor del rey, cada uno de los hombres armados; y el que entre dentro de tus líneas ha de ser muerto; acompañarán al rey, cuando sale y cuando entra.
Surround the king with weapons drawn, and anyone who approaches this line must be killed. Stay close to the king wherever he goes.”
9 Y los capitanes de centenares hicieron como el sacerdote Joiada les dio órdenes; Todos tomaron con él a sus hombres, los que entraron y los que salieron el sábado, y se presentaron al sacerdote Joiada.
The commanders of hundreds followed all the instructions that Jehoiada the priest had given. They each took their own men, those who were coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty, and came to Jehoiada the priest.
10 Y el sacerdote dio a los capitanes de centenares las lanzas y escudos que habían sido del rey David, y que se guardaban en la casa del Señor.
Then the priest handed over to the commanders of hundreds the spears and shields that had belonged to King David which were kept in the Lord's Temple.
11 Entonces los hombres armados tomaron sus posiciones, cada uno con sus instrumentos de guerra en la mano, desde el lado derecho de la casa hacia la izquierda, alrededor del altar y la casa.
The guards stood with weapons drawn surrounding the king by the altar, and in a line around the Temple, from the south side to the north side of the Temple.
12 Luego sacó al hijo del rey, puso la corona sobre él y los brazaletes, y lo hizo rey, y puso aceite santo sobre él. y todos ellos, haciendo sonidos de alegría con sus manos, dijeron: Larga vida al rey.
Then Jehoiada led out the king's son, placed the crown on him, and handed him a copy of God's Law. They proclaimed him king and anointed him. The people clapped, and shouted, “Long live the king!”
13 Ahora, Atalía, oyendo el ruido hecho por la gente, vino a la gente en el templo del Señor;
When Athaliah heard the noise of the guards and the people, she rushed to the crowds at the Lord's Temple.
14 Al mirar, vio al rey en su lugar habitual junto a la columna, y los capitanes y los cuernos cerca de él; y toda la gente de la tierra dando señales de alegría y haciendo sonar los cuernos. Entonces Atalía, separando violentamente sus ropas, lanzó un grito, diciendo: ¡Traición!
She saw the king standing by his pillar as the custom was. The commanders and trumpeters were with the king, and everyone was celebrating and blowing trumpets. Athaliah ripped her clothes and screamed out, “Treason! Treason!”
15 Entonces el sacerdote Joiada dio órdenes a los que estaban en autoridad sobre el ejército, diciendo: Llévala fuera de las filas, y que cualquiera que la persiga sea condenado a muerte con espada, porque él dijo: No se le dé muerte en la casa del Señor.
Jehoiada ordered the army commanders, “Bring her to the men standing in front of the Temple, and kill anyone who follows her.” Earlier the priest had made it clear, “She must not be killed in the Lord's Temple.”
16 De modo que pusieron sus manos sobre ella, y ella fue a la casa del rey junto a la puerta de los caballos, y allí la mataron.
They grabbed hold of her, took her to where the horses enter the palace grounds and they killed her there.
17 Y Joiada llegó a un acuerdo entre el Señor, el rey y el pueblo, de que serían el pueblo del Señor; y de la misma manera entre el rey y el pueblo.
Then Jehoiada made a solemn agreement between the Lord, the king, and the people that they would be the Lord's people. He also made an agreement between the king and the people.
18 Entonces todos los habitantes de la tierra fueron a la casa de Baal y la derribaron, sus altares y sus imágenes se rompieron en pedazos, y Matan, el sacerdote de Baal, lo mataron ante los altares. Y el sacerdote puso supervisores sobre él templo del Señor.
Everyone went to the Temple of Baal and tore down its altars and smashed the idols to pieces. They killed Mattan, the priest of Baal, right in front of the altar. Then Jehoiada the priest had guards posted at the Lord's Temple.
19 Luego tomó a los capitanes de cientos, a los cereteos, a los hombres armados y a toda la gente de la región; y descendieron con el rey de la casa del Señor, a través de la puerta de los hombres armados, a la casa del rey. Y él tomó su lugar en el asiento de los reyes.
Along with the commanders, the nobles, the governors of the people, and all the people, he led the king in a procession down from the Lord's Temple, entering through the upper gate to the royal palace. There they set the king on the royal throne.
20 Y se alegraron todos los habitantes de la tierra, y el pueblo quedó en silencio; y mataron a Atalía con la espada en la casa del rey.
All throughout the land people celebrated, and Jerusalem was at peace, because Athaliah had been killed by the sword at the palace.
21 Y Joás tenía siete años cuando comenzó a reinar.
Joash was seven when he became king.
