2 Crónicas 19

1 Y Josafat, rey de Judá, volvió a su casa en Jerusalén en paz.

Then Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, returned in peace to his house in Jerusalem.

2 Y Jehú, el hijo de Hanani, profeta, fue al rey Josafat y le dijo: ¿Es correcto que vayas en ayuda de los malvados, amando a los que odian al Señor? Por esto, la ira del Señor ha venido sobre ti.

And the seer Jehu, the son of Hanani, met him, and said to him: “You offer assistance to the impious, and you are joined in friendship with those who hate the Lord. And for this reason, you certainly deserve the wrath of the Lord.

3 Pero todavía hay algo bueno en ti, porque has quitado las columnas de madera de la tierra y has entregado tu corazón a la adoración de Dios.

But good works have been found in you. For you have taken away the sacred groves from the land of Judah. And you have prepared your heart, so as to seek the Lord, the God of your fathers.”

4 Y Josafat vivía en Jerusalén; y volvió a salir entre la gente, desde Beerseba hasta la región montañosa de Efraín, para hacerlos volver al Señor, el Dios de sus padres.

Then Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem. And again he went out to the people, from Beersheba as far as mount Ephraim. And he called them back to the Lord, the God of their fathers.

5 Y puso a los jueces por toda la tierra, en cada pueblo amurallado de Judá,

And he appointed judges of the land, in all the fortified cities of Judah, in each place.

6 Y dijo a los jueces: Fíjense lo que hacen, porque no juzgan por el hombre sino por el Señor, y él está con ustedes en las decisiones que dan.

And instructing the judges, he said: “Pay attention to what you are doing. For you exercise judgment, not of man, but of the Lord. And whatever you will have judged, it will come back to you.

7 Ahora, que el temor del Señor esté en ustedes; Hagan su trabajo con cuidado; porque en el Señor nuestro Dios no hay maldad, ni respeto por las altas posiciones, ni pago por hacer el mal.

Let the fear of the Lord be with you, and do all things with diligence. For there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, nor respect of persons, nor desire for gifts.”

8 Luego, en Jerusalén, dio autoridad a algunos de los levitas, sacerdotes y jefes de familia de Israel para tomar decisiones por el Señor y por las causas de los que viven en Jerusalén.

Jehoshaphat also appointed Levites and priests and leaders of families, out of Israel, in Jerusalem, so that they might judge the judgment and purpose of the Lord for its inhabitants.

9 Y él les dio sus órdenes, diciendo: Debes hacer tu trabajo en el temor del Señor, de buena fe y con un corazón verdadero.

And he instructed them, saying, “So shall you act: faithfully, in the fear of the Lord, and with a perfect heart.

10 Y si alguna causa se presenta ante ti por parte de tus hermanos que viven en sus pueblos, donde se cuestiona la pena de muerte, o donde hay cuestiones de ley u orden, reglas o decisiones, haz que se encarguen de que sea así y no cometan faltas contra el Señor, para que la ira no caiga sobre ustedes y sobre tus hermanos; hagan esto y ustedes mismos no estarán en el mal.

Every case that will come to you from your brothers, who live in their cities, between kindred and kindred, wherever there is a question concerning law, commandment, ceremonies, or justifications, reveal it to them, so that they may not sin against the Lord, and so that wrath may not overwhelm you and your brothers. Then, by acting in this way, you will not sin.

11 Y ahora, Amarias, el sumo sacerdote, está sobre ti en todas las preguntas relacionadas con el Señor; y Zebadías, hijo de Ismael, el jefe de la familia de Judá, en todo lo relacionado con los asuntos del rey; y los levitas serán supervisores para ti. Sé fuerte para hacer el trabajo; y que el Señor esté con los rectos.

But Amariah, a priest and your high priest, shall preside over those things which pertain to God. Then Zebadiah, the son of Ishmael, who is a ruler in the house of Judah, shall be over those works that pertain to the office of the king. And you have before you the Levites as teachers. Be strengthened and act diligently, and the Lord will be with you for what is good.”
