1 Y se fue Roboam a Siquem, donde todo Israel se había reunido para hacerle rey.
Then Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Sheche came all Israel to make him king.
2 Y cuando Jeroboam, el hijo de Nabat, tuvo noticias de ello porque estaba en Egipto, donde había huido del rey Salomón, regresó de Egipto.
And when Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat heard it, (which was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Salomon the King) he returned out of Egypt.
3 Y enviaron por él; Y Jeroboam y todo Israel vinieron a Roboam y dijeron:
And they sent and called him: so came Ieroboam and all Israel, and communed with Rehoboam, saying,
4 Tu padre nos echó un duro yugo; si hicieras que las condiciones en las que tu padre nos reprimió sean menos crueles, y el peso del yugo que nos puso menos fuertes, entonces seremos tus sirvientes.
Thy father made our yoke grieuous: nowe therefore make thou the grieuous seruitude of thy father, and his sore yoke, that he put vpon vs, lighter, and we will serue thee.
5 Y les dijo: Vuelvan a mí después de tres días. Entonces la gente se fue.
And he sayde to them, Depart yet three dayes, then come againe vnto me. And the people departed.
6 Entonces el rey Roboam tomó la opinión de los ancianos que habían estado con Salomón su padre cuando vivía, y dijo: En su opinión, ¿qué respuesta debo dar a esta gente?
And King Rehoboam tooke counsel with the olde men that had stande before Salomon his father, while hee yet liued, saying, What counsell giue ye that I may answere this people?
7 Y le dijeron: Si eres amable con este pueblo, complaciéndolo y diciéndole buenas palabras, entonces serán tus sirvientes para siempre.
And they spake vnto him, saying, If thou be kinde to this people, and please them, and speake louing words to them, they will be thy seruants for euer.
8 Pero no prestó atención a la opinión de los ancianos, sino que se dirigió a los jóvenes de su generación que estaban esperando ante él.
But hee left the counsel of the ancient men that they had giuen him, and tooke counsell of the yong men that were brought vp with him, and waited on him.
9 Y él les dijo: ¿Qué opinión tienen? ¿Qué respuesta tenemos para darles a estas personas que me han dicho: Haz menos el peso del yugo que nos puso tu padre?
And he sayd vnto them, What counsel giue ye, that we may answere this people, which haue spoken to mee, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put vpon vs, lighter?
10 Y los jóvenes de su generación le dijeron: Esta es la respuesta para la gente que vino a ti, diciendo: Tu padre nos echó un fuerte yugo, pero lo harás menos; Diles: Mi dedo meñique es más grueso que los lomos de mi padre;
And the yong men that were brought vp with him, spake vnto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answere the people that spake to thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heauie, but make thou it lighter for vs: thus shalt thou say vnto them, My least part shalbe bigger then my fathers loines.
11 Si mi padre les impuso un fuerte yugo, yo lo haré más difícil; mi padre te castigó con látigos, pero te daré golpes con látigos de punta de hierro.
Now whereas my father did burden you with a grieuous yoke, I will yet increase your yoke: my father hath chastised you with roddes, but I will correct you with scourges.
12 Entonces Jeroboam y todas las personas vinieron a Roboam al tercer día, como el rey había dado órdenes, diciendo: Vuelvan a mí nuevamente al tercer día.
Then Ieroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the King had appointed saying, Come againe to me the third day.
13 Y el rey les dio una respuesta aproximada. Así que el rey Roboam no prestó atención a la sugerencia de los ancianos,
And the King answered them sharply: and King Rehoboam left the counsel of the ancient men,
14 Pero les dio la respuesta de los jóvenes, diciendo: Si mi padre te endureció el yugo, yo lo haré más difícil; mi padre te castigó con látigos, pero yo te lo daré con látigos de puntas de hierro.
And spake to them after ye counsell of the yong men, saying, My father made your yoke grieuous, but I wil incease it: my father chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.
15 Entonces el rey no escuchó al pueblo; porque esto sucedió por el propósito de Dios, para que el Señor pudiera cumplir su palabra que había dicho por Ahias él de Silo a Jeroboam, el hijo de Nebat.
So the king hearkened not vnto the people: for it was the ordinance of God that the Lord might performe his saying, which hee had spoken by Ahiiah the Shilonite to Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat.
16 Y cuando todo Israel vio que el rey no les prestaba atención, el pueblo en respuesta dijo al rey: ¿Qué parte tenemos en David? ¿Cuál es nuestra herencia en el hijo de Isaí? Todos a tus tiendas, oh Israel; Ahora mira a tu casa, David. Y todo Israel fue a sus tiendas.
So when all Isarael sawe that the King would not heare them, the people answered the King, saying, What portion haue we in Dauid? for we haue none inheritance in the sonue of Ishai. O Israel, euery man to your tents: now see to thine owne house, Dauid. So all Israel departed to their tents.
17 Pero Roboam aún era rey de los hijos de Israel que vivían en las ciudades de Judá.
Howbeit Rehoboam reigned ouer the children of Israel, that dwelt in the cities of Iudah.
18 Entonces Roboam envió a Adoniram, el supervisor del trabajo forzado; y lo apedrearon a muerte por todo Israel. Y el rey Roboam fue rápidamente y se subió a su carruaje y huir a Jerusalén.
Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was ouer the tribute, and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died: then King Rehoboam made speede to get him vp to his charet, to flee to Ierusalem.
19 Así que Israel se rebeló contra la familia de David hasta el día de hoy.
And Israel rebelled against the house of Dauid vnto this day.
