1 Samuel 1

1 Había un cierto hombre de Ramataim, un zufita de la región montañosa de Efraín, llamado Elcana; él era el hijo de Jeroham, el hijo de Eliú, el hijo de Tohu, el hijo de Zuf, de la tribu de Efraín.

There was a certain man from Ramah of Zophim, on Mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.

2 Y tenía dos esposas, una llamada Ana y la otra Penina: y Penina era la madre de los niños, pero Ana no tenía hijos.

And he had two wives: the name of one was Hannah, and the name of the second was Peninnah. And Peninnah had sons. But Hannah did not have children.

3 Y este hombre subía de su pueblo todos los años para adorar y hacer ofrendas al Señor de los ejércitos en Silo. Y los dos hijos de Elí, Ofni y Penina, los sacerdotes del Señor, estaban allí.

And this man went up from his city, on the established days, so that he might adore and sacrifice to the Lord of hosts at Shiloh. Now the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests of the Lord, were in that place.

4 Y cuando llegó el día para que Elcana hiciera su ofrenda, dio a Penina su esposa, y todos sus hijos e hijas, su parte de la fiesta.

Then the day arrived, and Elkanah immolated. And he gave portions to his wife Peninnah, and to all her sons and daughters.

5 Pero a Ana le dio una doble parte, aunque Ana era muy querida para él, pero el Señor no le había dejado tener hijos.

But to Hannah he gave one portion with sorrow. For he loved Hannah, but the Lord had closed her womb.

6 Y la otra esposa hizo todo lo posible para hacerla infeliz, porque el Señor no le había dejado tener hijos.

And her rival afflicted her and vehemently distressed her, to a great extent, for she rebuked her that the Lord had closed her womb.

7 Y año tras año, cada vez que subía a la casa del Señor, seguía atacándola, de modo que Ana se entregaba a llorar y no comía.

And she did so every year, when the time returned for them to ascend to the temple of the Lord. And she provoked her in this way. And so, she wept and did not take food.

8 Entonces su marido Elcana le dijo a ella: Ana, ¿por qué lloras? ¿Y por qué no estás comiendo? ¿Por qué está turbado tu corazón? ¿No soy yo para ti más que diez hijos?

Therefore, her husband Elkanah said to her: “Hannah, why are you weeping? And why do you not eat? And for what reason do you afflict your heart? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”

9 Entonces, después de que habían tomado comida y vino en la habitación de invitados, Ana se levantó; Ahora el sacerdote Elí estaba sentado junto a los pilares de la puerta del Templo del Señor.

And so, after she ate and drank at Shiloh, Hannah rose up. And Eli, the priest, was sitting on the seat before the door of the temple of the Lord.

10 Y con dolor en su alma, llorando amargamente, ella hizo su oración al Señor.

And since Hannah was bitter in soul, she prayed to the Lord, weeping greatly.

11 Y ella hizo un juramento, y dijo: Oh Señor de los ejércitos, si realmente tomas nota del dolor de tu sierva, no te apartes de mí sino que en vez de olvidarme, te acuerdas de mí y me das un hijo varón, entonces lo entregaré al Señor todos los días de su vida, y su cabello nunca será cortado.

And she made a vow, saying, “O Lord of hosts, if, in looking with favor, you will see the affliction of your servant and will remember me, and will not forget your handmaid, and if you will give to your servant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall pass over his head.”

12 Ahora, mientras ella estuvo mucho tiempo en oración ante el Señor, Elí estaba observando su boca.

Then it happened that, while she multiplied prayers before the Lord, Eli observed her mouth.

13 Porque la oración de Ana salió de su corazón, y aunque sus labios se movían, no hizo ningún ruido: a Eli le pareció que estaba llena de vino.

For Hannah was speaking in her heart, and only her lips moved, and her voice was barely heard. Therefore, Eli considered her to be drunk,

14 Y Elí le dijo: ¿Cuánto tiempo vas a estar borracha? Aleja de ti los efectos de tu vino.

and so he said to her: “How long will you be inebriated? You should take only a little wine, but instead you are drenched.”

15 Y respondiendo Ana, le dijo: No, señor mío, soy una mujer cuyo espíritu está quebrantado por el dolor: no he bebido vino ni trago fuerte, pero he estado abriendo mi corazón ante el Señor.

Responding, Hannah said: “By no means, my lord. For I am an exceedingly unhappy woman, and I drank neither wine, nor anything that can inebriate. Instead, I have poured out my soul in the sight of the Lord.

16 No tomes a tu sierva como una mujer que no sirve para nada: porque mis palabras provienen de mi tristeza y dolor acumulados.

You should not repute your handmaid as one of the daughters of Belial. For I have been speaking from the abundance of my sorrow and grief, even until now.”

17 Entonces Elí le dijo: Ve en paz; y que el Dios de Israel te dé una respuesta a la oración que le has hecho.

Then Eli said to her: “Go in peace. And may the God of Israel grant to you your petition, which you have begged of him.”

18 Y ella dijo: Que tu sierva tenga gracia ante tus ojos. Entonces la mujer se fue y participó en el banquete, y su rostro ya no estaba triste.

And she said, “I wish that your handmaid may find grace in your eyes.” And the woman went on her way, and she ate, and her countenance was no longer changed for the worse.

19 Y temprano en la mañana se levantaron, y después de adorar ante el Señor, regresaron a Ramá, a su casa: y Elcana se unió con su esposa Ana; y el Señor tuvo en cuenta la petición que hizo Ana.

And they rose up in the morning, and they worshipped before the Lord. And they returned and arrived at their own house at Ramah. Then Elkanah knew his wife Hannah. And the Lord remembered her.

20 Llegó el momento en que Ana, que estaba embarazada, dio a luz un hijo; y ella le dio el nombre de Samuel. Porque ella dijo, hice una oración al Señor por él.

And it happened that, in the course of days, Hannah conceived and bore a son. And she called his name Samuel, because she had requested him from the Lord.

21 Y el hombre Elcana con toda su familia subió para hacer la ofrenda del año al Señor, y para hacer cumplir su juramento.

Now her husband Elkanah ascended with his entire house, so that he might immolate to the Lord a solemn sacrifice, with his vow.

22 Pero Ana no fue, porque ella le dijo a su marido: No iré hasta que el niño haya sido destetado, y luego lo llevaré y lo pondré ante el Señor, donde se quedará para siempre.

But Hannah did not go up. For she said to her husband, “I will not go, until the infant has been weaned, and until I may lead him, so that he may appear before the sight of the Lord, and may remain always there.”

23 Y su marido Elcana le dijo: Haz lo que te parezca bien, pero no hasta que dejes de amamantarlo; Sólo el Señor puede hacer lo que él ha dicho. Así que la mujer, esperando allí, le dio leche a su hijo hasta que tuvo la edad suficiente y dejó de amamantarlo.

And her husband Elkanah said to her: “Do what seems good to you, and stay until you wean him. And I pray that the Lord may fulfill his word.” Therefore, the woman remained at home, and she breastfed her son, until she withdrew him from milk.

24 Luego, cuando lo hizo, se lo llevó con un becerro de tres años y un efa de comida y un odre de vino, y lo llevó a la casa del Señor en Silo: ahora El niño todavía era muy pequeño.

And after she had weaned him, she brought him with her, along with three calves, and three measures of flour, and a small bottle of wine, and she led him to the house of the Lord at Shiloh. But the boy was still a young child.

25 Y cuando hicieron una ofrenda del becerro, llevaron al niño a Elí.

And they immolated a calf, and they presented the boy to Eli.

26 Y ella dijo: Oh señor mío, como vive tu alma, señor mío, soy esa mujer que estaba haciendo una oración al Señor aquí a tu lado:

And Hannah said: “I beg you, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord: I am that woman, who stood before you here, praying to the Lord.

27 Mi oración fue por este niño; y el Señor me lo ha dado en respuesta a mi petición:

I prayed for this child, and the Lord granted to me my petition, which I asked of him.

28 Así lo he dado al Señor; Porque toda su vida es del Señor. Entonces le dieron adoración al Señor allí.

Because of this, I have also lent him to the Lord, for all the days when he shall be lent to the Lord.” And they adored the Lord in that place. And Hannah prayed, and she said:
