1 Samuel 31
1 Los filisteos atacaron a Israel, y los hombres de Israel huyeron en fuga ante los filisteos, cayendo muertos en el monte Gilboa.
Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel. And the men of Israel fled before the face of the Philistines, and they fell down slain on mount Gilboa.
2 Y los filisteos tomaron a Saúl y sus hijos; y mataron a Jonatán, a Abinadab y a Malquisua, los hijos de Saúl.
And the Philistines rushed upon Saul, and upon his sons, and they struck down Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.
3 Y la lucha iba mal para Saúl, y los arqueros se cruzaron con él y fue herido por los arqueros.
And the entire weight of the battle was turned against Saul. And the men who were archers pursued him. And he was severely wounded by the archers.
4 Entonces Saúl dijo al siervo su escudero: Saca tu espada y pásala a través de mí, antes de que estos hombres sin circuncisión vengan y se burlen de mí. Pero su sirviente, lleno de miedo, no lo hizo. Entonces Saúl sacó su espada y cayendo sobre ella, se puso fin a sí mismo.
Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword and strike me, otherwise these uncircumcised may come and kill me, mocking me.” And his armor bearer was not willing. For he had been struck with an exceedingly great fear. And so, Saul took his own sword, and he fell upon it.
5 Y cuando su criado vio que Saúl estaba muerto, él hizo lo mismo, y se unió a él en la muerte.
And when his armor bearer had seen this, namely, that Saul had died, he too fell upon his sword, and he died with him.
6 Entonces la muerte alcanzó a Saúl y sus tres hijos y su siervo el mismo día.
Therefore, Saul died, and his three sons, and his armor bearer, and all his men, on the same day together.
7 Y cuando los hombres de Israel cruzaron el valle y al otro lado del Jordán vieron que el ejército de Israel estaba huyendo y que Saúl y sus hijos estaban muertos, salieron de sus ciudades y huyeron; Y vinieron los filisteos y los tomaron para sí mismos.
Then, seeing that the men of the Israelites had fled, and that Saul had died with his sons, the men of Israel who were across the valley or beyond the Jordan abandoned their cities, and they fled. And the Philistines went and lived there.
8 Al día siguiente, cuando los filisteos vinieron a sacar sus bienes de los muertos, vieron a Saúl y sus tres hijos muertos en la tierra en el monte Gilboa.
Then, when the next day arrived, the Philistines came, so that they might despoil the slain. And they found Saul and his three sons lying on mount Gilboa.
9 Y cortándole la cabeza y quitándole el traje de guerra, enviaron un mensaje a la tierra de los filisteos por todas partes, para llevar las noticias a sus dioses y al pueblo.
And they cut off the head of Saul. And they despoiled him of the armor, and they sent it into the land of the Philistines all around, so that it might be announced in the temples of the idols and among their people.
10 Se pusieron sus ropas de guerra en la casa de Astarté. y su cuerpo fue fijado en la pared de Beth-san.
And they placed his armor in the temple of Ashtaroth. But his body they suspended on the wall of Bethshan.
11 Y cuando los habitantes de Jabes-galaad tuvieron noticias de lo que los filisteos habían hecho a Saúl,
And when the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead had heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
12 Se levantaron todos los fuertes y valientes, viajando toda la noche, tomaron el cuerpo de Saúl y los cuerpos de sus hijos del muro de Bet-sán; y viniendo a Jabes y los quemaron allí.
all the most valiant men rose up, and they walked all night, and they took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Bethshan. And they went to Jabesh Gilead, and they burned them there.
13 Y tomando los huesos lo enterraron debajo del árbol tamarisco en Jabes; Y por siete días guardaron ayuno.
And they took their bones, and they buried them in the forest of Jabesh. And they fasted for seven days.
