1 Samuel 27

1 Y David se dijo a sí mismo: Algún día la muerte vendrá a mí de la mano de Saúl. Lo único que puedo hacer es irme a la tierra de los filisteos; entonces Saúl perderá la esperanza de llevarme a cualquier parte de la tierra de Israel, y así podré alejarme de él.

David, however, said to himself, “One of these days now I will be swept away by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than to escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will stop searching for me all over Israel, and I will slip out of his hand.”

2 Entonces David y los seiscientos hombres que estaban con él fueron a Aquis, hijo de Maoc, rey de Gat.

So David set out with his six hundred men and went to Achish son of Maoch, the king of Gath.

3 Y David y sus hombres vivían con Aquis en Gat; cada hombre tenía a su familia con él, y David tenía sus dos esposas, Ahinoam de Jezreel, y Abigail de Carmel, que había sido la esposa de Nabal.

David and his men settled in Gath with Achish. Each man had his family with him, and David had his two wives: Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail of Carmel, the widow of Nabal.

4 Y Saúl, oyendo que David había ido a Gat, ya no iba tras él.

And when Saul learned that David had fled to Gath, he no longer searched for him.

5 Entonces David dijo a Aquis: Si ahora tengo gracia ante tus ojos, déjame tener un lugar en uno de los pueblos más pequeños de tu tierra, que sea mi lugar de vida; porque no es correcto que tu sirviente viva contigo en la ciudad del rey.

Then David said to Achish, “If I have found favor in your eyes, let me be assigned a place in one of the outlying towns, so I can live there. For why should your servant live in the royal city with you?”

6 Entonces Aquis le dio a Siclag de inmediato, y por esa razón, Siclag ha sido propiedad de los reyes de Judá hasta el día de hoy.

That day Achish gave him Ziklag, and to this day it still belongs to the kings of Judah.

7 Y David vivió en la tierra de los filisteos por espacio de un año y cuatro meses.

And the time that David lived in Philistine territory amounted to a year and four months.

8 Entonces David y sus hombres subieron e hicieron ataques contra los de Gesur, Gezer, y Amalec; porque estas eran las personas que vivían en la tierra desde Telam en el camino a Shur, hasta Egipto.

Now David and his men went up and raided the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites. (From ancient times these people had inhabited the land extending to Shur and Egypt.)

9 Y David, una y otra vez, atacó la tierra hasta que ni un hombre ni una mujer vivían; y se llevó las ovejas y los bueyes y los asnos, los camellos y la ropa; y volvió a Aquis.

Whenever David attacked a territory, he did not leave a man or woman alive, but he took the flocks and herds, the donkeys, camels, and clothing. Then he would return to Achish,

10 Y cada vez que Aquis decía: ¿Dónde has estado luchando hoy? David dijo: Contra el sur de Judá y el sur de los jerameel y el sur de los ceneos.

who would ask him, “What have you raided today?” And David would reply, “The Negev of Judah,” or “The Negev of Jerahmeel,” or “The Negev of the Kenites.”

11 Ni un hombre o una mujer vivos se llevaron a David con él a Gat, temiendo que pudieran dar cuenta de lo que había ocurrido y decir: Esto es lo que hizo David, y así lo ha estado haciendo todo el tiempo en que vivió en la tierra de los filisteos.

David did not leave a man or woman alive to be brought to Gath, for he said, “Otherwise they will report us, saying, ‘This is what David did.’” And this was David’s custom the whole time he lived in Philistine territory.

12 Aquis creyó en lo que dijo David, diciendo: Se ha hecho odiar por todo su pueblo Israel, y por eso será mi servidor para siempre.

So Achish trusted David, thinking, “Since he has made himself an utter stench to his people Israel, he will be my servant forever.”
