1 Samuel 24
1 Cuando Saúl regresó de pelear contra los filisteos, se le dieron noticias de que David estaba en él desierto de En-Gedi.
And it came to pass, when Saul had returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying: Lo! David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.
2 Luego Saúl sacó a tres mil de los mejores hombres de todo Israel, y fue en busca de David y sus hombres sobre las rocas de las cabras montesas.
Then Saul took three thousand chosen men, out of all Israel, —and went to seek David and his men, over the face of the rocks of the mountain-goats.
3 Y en el camino llegó a un lugar donde se guardaban las ovejas, donde había una cueva; y Saúl entró para hacer sus necesidades. Ahora David y sus hombres estaban en la parte más profunda de la cueva.
And he came into the sheep-folds by the way, there, being a cave, which Saul entered, to cover his feet, —David and his men, in the hinder part of the cave, having taken up their abode.
4 Entonces los hombres de David le dijeron: Ahora es el momento en que el Señor te dice: entregaré a tu enemigo en tus manos para hacer con él lo que te parezca bien. Entonces David, levantándose, tomó el manto de Saúl en su mano, cortándole la esquina sin que lo supiera.
So David’s men said unto him—Lo! the day of which Yahweh said unto thee—Lo! I am about to deliver up thine enemy, into thy hand: therefore shall thou do unto him, as shall be good in thine eyes. And David arose, and cut off the corner of the robe which belonged to Saul, by stealth.
5 Y luego, después, David le remordió la conciencia y se arrepintió de haber cortado el manto de Saúl.
And it came to pass afterwards that David’s heart smote him, —because he had cut off the corner [of the robe] which belonged to Saul.
6 Y David dijo a sus hombres: Ante el Señor, nunca se diga que mi mano se levantó contra mi señor, el hombre escogido del Señor, porque el aceite santo del Señor fue puesto sobre él.
And he said unto his men—Far be it from me, of Yahweh, that I should do this thing unto my lord, unto the Anointed of Yahweh, to thrust forth my hand against him, —for, the Anointed of Yahweh, is he!
7 Entonces, con estas palabras, David retuvo a sus sirvientes y no les permitió atacar a Saúl. Y Saúl se levantó y siguió su camino.
So David did chide his men with the words, and did not suffer them to rise up against Saul. And, Saul, rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.
8 Después de esto, David salió de la cueva, y clamando a Saúl, dijo: Señor mío, el rey. Y cuando Saúl le devolvió la mirada, David se inclinó hasta el suelo y le dio honor.
Then David rose up, afterwards, and went forth out of the cave, and cried out after Saul, saying—My lord, O king! And, when Saul looked about behind him, David inclined his face to the earth, and bowed himself down.
9 Entonces David dijo a Saúl: ¿Por qué prestas atención a los que dicen que es mi deseo hacerte mal?
Then said David to Saul, Wherefore shouldst thou hearken unto the words of the sons of earth, saying, —Lo! David is seeking thy hurt?
10 ¡Mira! has visto hoy cómo el Señor te entregó en mis manos incluso ahora en la cueva, y algunos dijeron que te matara, pero tuve compasión de ti, porque dije, nunca se levantará mi mano contra mi señor, que es él escogido del Señor, ha sido ungido con el aceite santo.
Lo! this day, have thine own eyes seen, how Yahweh had delivered thee up, to-day, into my hand in the cave, and, when one bade me slay thee, I looked with compassion upon thee, —and I said—I will not thrust forth my hand against my lord, for, the Anointed of Yahweh, is he!
11 Y mira, padre mío, ve la esquina de tu túnica en mi mano: porque el hecho de que corte la falda de tu túnica y no te maté es prueba de que no tengo ningún propósito malo, y yo no hecho ningún mal, sin embargo tú me estás buscando para matarme.
But, my father, see, yea, see, the corner of thy robe in my hand, —for, in that I cut off the corner of thy robe, and yet did not slay thee, know thou, and see, that there is not in my hand either wrong or transgression, neither have I sinned against thee, yet art thou hunting my life, to take it.
12 Que el Señor sea juez entre tú yo, y que el Señor me otorgue mis derechos contra ti, pero mi mano nunca será levantada contra ti.
Let Yahweh do justice betwixt me and thee, and let Yahweh avenge me of thee, —but, mine own hand, shall not be upon thee.
13 Hay un viejo dicho: del malvado viene el mal, pero mi mano nunca será levantada contra ti.
As saith the proverb of the ancients, From the lawless, proceedeth lawlessness, —mine own hand, therefore shall not be upon thee.
14 ¿Después de quién salió el rey de Israel? para quien estas buscando Por un perro muerto, un insecto.
After whom, hath the king of Israel come forth? After whom, art thou in pursuit? After a dead dog! after a single flea!
15 Dejemos que el Señor sea juez y tome una decisión entre tú y yo, y vea y apoye mi causa, y evite que caiga en tus manos.
Therefore shall, Yahweh, become, judge, and do justice betwixt me and thee, —that he may see, and plead my cause, and justly deliver me out of thy hand.
16 Cuando David le dijo estas palabras a Saúl, Saúl dijo: ¿Esta es tu voz, David, hijo mío? Y Saúl fue vencido por el llanto.
And it came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Thy voice, is this, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.
17 Y él le dijo a David: Tienes razón y yo estoy equivocado, porque me has devuelto el bien, pero yo te he dado el mal.
And he said unto David, More righteous, art thou than I, for, thou, hast requited me, good, but, I, have requited thee, evil.
18 Y me has dejado claro cuán bueno me has sido hoy, porque cuando el Señor me entregó en tus manos, no me hiciste morir.
Thou, then, hast told to-day, how thou hast dealt with me, for good, —how, when Yahweh had surrendered me into thy hand, thou didst not slay me.
19 Si un hombre se encuentra con su enemigo, ¿lo dejará escapar a salvo? para que seas recompensado por el Señor por lo que has hecho por mí hoy.
Yet, when a man findeth his enemy, will he let him get easily away? Yahweh, then, give thee, good, reward for what, this day, thou hast done unto me.
20 Y ahora estoy seguro de que serás rey, y que el reino de Israel se fortalecerá bajo tu autoridad.
Now, therefore, lo! I know that thou, shalt indeed become king, —and that the kingdom of Israel, shall be established in thy hand.
21 Dame tu juramento por el Señor, que no acabes con mi simiente después de mí ni dejes que mi nombre sea separado de la familia de mi padre.
Now, therefore, swear unto me by Yahweh, that thou wilt not eat off my seed, after me, —and wilt not destroy my name out of the house my father.
22 Y David juró a Saúl. Y Saúl volvió a su casa; pero David y sus hombres subieron a su fortaleza.
So David sware unto Saul, —and Saul departed unto his own house, but, David and his men, went up on the stronghold.
