1 Samuel 18
1 Ahora, después de que terminó la conversación de David con Saúl, el alma de Jonatán se unió al alma de David, y David se volvió tan querido para él como su propia vida.
When he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was bound to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

Saul took David into his service that day; he did not let him return to his father's house.
3 Entonces Jonatán y David llegaron a un acuerdo juntos, debido a que Jonatán lo amaba como a su propia alma.
Then Jonathan and David made a covenant of friendship because Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
4 Y Jonatán se quitó la túnica que llevaba puesta y se la dio a David, con todo su atuendo militar, incluso su espada y su arco y la banda alrededor de su cuerpo.
Jonathan took off the robe that he was wearing and gave it to David with his armor, as well as his sword, bow, and belt.
5 Y David fue a dondequiera que Saúl lo envió, e hizo con sabiduría: y Saúl lo puso a la cabeza de sus hombres de guerra, y esto agradó a todo el pueblo, así como a los siervos de Saúl.
David went out wherever Saul sent him, and he succeeded. Saul set him over the men of war. This was pleasing in the eyes of all the people and also in the sight of Saul's servants.
6 Ahora, en su camino, cuando David regresó después de la destrucción del filisteo, las mujeres salieron de todos los pueblos de Israel, con cantos y bailes, y se encontraron con David con melodía y alegría e instrumentos musicales.
As they came home from defeating the Philistines, the women came from all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy, and with musical instruments.
7 Y las mujeres, unas a otras en su canto, dijeron: Saúl ha matado a sus miles y David a sus decenas de miles.
The women sang one to another as they played. They sang: “Saul has killed his thousands, and David his ten thousands.”
8 Y Saúl estaba muy enojado, y esta frase le resultaba desagradable; y él dijo: Le han dado crédito a David por decenas de miles, y para mí solo por miles: ¿qué más hay para él sino el reino?
Saul was very angry, and this song displeased him. He said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, but they have ascribed only thousands to me. What more can he have but the monarchy?”
9 Y desde aquel día Saúl miraba con envidia a David.
Saul looked at David with suspicion from that day on.
10 Al día siguiente, un espíritu maligno de Dios vino sobre Saúl y empezó a hablar incoherencias entre los sirvientes de su casa, mientras que David tocaba música para él, como lo hacía día tras día. y Saúl tenía su lanza en la mano.
The next day a harmful spirit from God rushed upon Saul and he raved within the house. So David played his instrument, as he did each day. Saul had a spear in his hand.
11 Y Saúl, balanceando la lanza en su mano, dijo: Le daré un golpe a David y lo clavaré en la pared. Y David se escapó de él dos veces.
Saul threw the spear, for he thought, “I will pin David to the wall.” But David escaped from Saul's presence twice in this way.
12 Entonces Saúl temió a David, porque el Señor estaba con David y se había ido de Saúl.
Saul was afraid of David, because Yahweh was with him, but was no longer with Saul.
13 Entonces Saúl lo despidió y lo convirtió en capitán de más de mil; y salía a campaña y volvía.
So Saul removed him from his presence and appointed him a commander of a thousand. In this way David went out and came in before the people.
14 Y en todas sus obras David hizo sabiamente; y el Señor estaba con él.
David was prospering in all his ways, for Yahweh was with him.
15 Y cuando Saúl vio lo sabio que lo había hecho, tuvo miedo de él.
When Saul saw that he prospered, he stood in awe of him.
16 Pero todo Israel y Judá amaban a David, porque él salía y regresaba delante de ellos.
But all Israel and Judah loved David, for he went out and came in before them.
17 Entonces Saúl dijo a David: Aquí está mi hija mayor, Merab, a quien te daré por tu esposa: sé fuerte conmigo, luchando en las guerras del Señor. Porque dijo Saúl: Que no sea por mí que venga su muerte, sino por los filisteos.
Then Saul said to David, “Here is my oldest daughter Merab. I will give her to you as a wife. Only be courageous for me and fight Yahweh's battles.” For Saul thought, “Let not my hand be on him, but let the hand of the Philistines be on him.”
18 Entonces David dijo a Saúl: ¿Quién soy yo, y cuál es la familia de mi padre en Israel, para que yo sea yerno del rey?
David said to Saul, “Who am I, and who are my relatives, or my father's clan in Israel, that I should be son-in-law to the king?”
19 Pero cuando llegó el momento de entregar a Merab, la hija de Saúl, a David, ella fue entregada a Adriel de Mehola.
But at the time when Merab, Saul's daughter, should have been given to David, she was given to Adriel the Meholathite as a wife.
20 Y la hija de Saúl, Mical, estaba enamorada de David, y Saúl se lo dijo y se alegró.
But Michal, Saul's daughter, loved David. They told Saul, and this pleased him.
21 Entonces Saúl dijo: Se la daré, para que pueda ser un peligro para él, y para que las manos de los filisteos estén contra él. Entonces Saúl dijo a David: Hoy serás mi yerno por segunda vez.
Then Saul thought, “I will give her to him, so that she can be a trap for him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” So Saul said to David a second time, “You will be my son-in-law.”
22 Entonces Saúl dio órdenes a sus siervos, diciendo: Habla en secreto con David y dile: Mira cómo el rey se deleita en ti y cómo te aman todos sus siervos; sé el yerno del rey.
Saul commanded his servants, “Speak with David in private, and say, 'See, the king takes pleasure in you, and all his servants love you. Now then, become the king's son-in-law.'”
23 Y los criados de Saúl dijeron estas cosas a David. Y David dijo: ¿Te parece algo pequeño ser el yerno del rey, ya que soy un hombre pobre, que no tiene gran nombre?
So Saul's servants spoke these words to David. Then David said, “Is it a small matter to you to be the king's son-in-law, since I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?”
24 Y los criados de Saúl le contaron lo que David había dicho.
The servants of Saul reported to him the words which David spoke.
25 Entonces Saúl dijo: Entonces dile a David: El rey no desea ningún precio de novia, sino solo los prepucios de cien filisteos para que el rey pueda vencer a sus enemigos. Pero fue en la mente de Saúl que David podría llegar a su fin por las manos de los filisteos.
Then Saul said, “Say this to David, 'The king does not desire any price for the bride except a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged from the king's enemies.'” Now Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
26 Y cuando sus siervos dijeron estas palabras a David, se alegró mucho de ser el yerno del rey. Y los días aún no habían pasado.
When his servants told David these words, it pleased David to be the king's son-in-law.
27 Entonces David y sus hombres se levantaron y fueron y mataron a doscientos de los filisteos; y David tomó sus prepucios y dio el número completo de ellos al rey, para que él pudiera ser el yerno del rey. Y Saúl le dio a su hija Mical por su esposa.
Before those days had expired, David went with his men and killed two hundred Philistines. David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full number to the king, so that he might be the king's son-in-law. So Saul gave him Michal his daughter as his wife.
28 Y a Saúl le quedó claro que el Señor estaba con David; y fue amado por todo Israel.
When Saul saw, and he knew that Yahweh was with David, and that Michal, Saul's daughter, loved him,
29 Y el temor de Saúl a David se hizo aún mayor, y él siguió odiándolo, día tras día.
Saul was even more afraid of David. Saul was continually David's enemy.
30 Entonces los gobernantes de los filisteos salieron a la guerra: y cada vez que salían, David hacía más sabiamente que todos los demás siervos de Saúl, para que su nombre se honrara grandemente.
Then the princes of the Philistines came out for battle, and as often as they came out, David succeeded more than all the servants of Saul, so that his name was highly regarded.
