1 Samuel 17
1 Los filisteos reunieron sus ejércitos para la guerra, y se reunieron en Soco en la tierra de Judá, y tomaron su posición entre Soco y Azeca en Efes-damim.
And the Philistines gathered together their camps to battle, and they gathered themselves together at Sochoh, which belongeth to Judah; and they encamped between Sochoh and 'Azekah, at Ephess-dammim.
2 Entonces se reunieron Saúl y los hombres de Israel, tomaron su posición en el valle de Ela y pusieron sus ejércitos en orden contra los filisteos.
And Saul and the men of Israel gathered themselves together, and encamped in the valley of Elah, and put themselves in battle-array opposite to the Philistines.
3 Los filisteos estaban estacionados en la montaña a un lado e Israel en la montaña al otro lado: y había un valle entre ellos.
And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and the Israelites stood on a mountain on the other side: and the valley was between them.
4 Y salió un combatiente de las tiendas de los filisteos, llamado Goliat de Gat; medía más de seis codos.
And there went out the champion out of the camp of the Philistines, Goliath of Gath was his name, whose height was six cubits and a span.
5 Y tenía un casco de bronce sobre su cabeza, y estaba vestido con una coraza de metal, cuyo peso era de cinco mil siclos de bronce.
And he had a helmet of copper upon his head, and he was clothed with a scaly coat of mail; and the weight of the coat of mail was five thousand shekels of copper.
6 Sus piernas estaban cubiertas con placas de bronce y colgando de su espalda era una jabalina de bronce.
And he had greaves of copper upon his legs, and a javelin of copper between his shoulders.
7 El hasta de su lanza era como un rodillo de telar, y su punta estaba hecha de un peso de hierro de seiscientos shekels: y su escudero iba delante de él.
And the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and the blade of his spear [weighed] six hundred shekels of iron: and the shield-bearer was walking before him.
8 Él tomó su posición y en voz alta dijo a los ejércitos de Israel: ¿Por qué has salido a hacer la guerra? ¿No soy yo un filisteo y ustedes siervos de Saúl? Envíen un hombre para que baje a luchar conmigo.
And he stood and calleth unto the arrays of Israel, and said unto them, Why will ye come out to put yourselves in battle-array? Behold: I am the Philistine, and ye are servants to Saul! select for yourselves one man, and let him come down to me;
9 Si él puede pelear conmigo y vencerme, entonces seremos tus sirvientes; pero si yo puedo vencerlo, entonces serás nuestros sirvientes.
If he be able to fight with me, and he kill me, then will we be unto you as servants; but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be unto us as servants, and ye shall serve us.
10 Y el filisteo dijo: He desafiado a los ejércitos de Israel hoy; Dame un hombre para que podamos pelear juntos.
And the Philistine said, I have defied the arrays of Israel this day; give me a man, and let us fight together.
11 Y Saúl y todo Israel, oyendo las palabras del filisteo, se turbaron y se llenaron de temor.
When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were disheartened, and became greatly afraid.
12 Entonces David era el hijo de aquel Efrateo de Belén de judá llamado Isaí, que tenía ocho hijos; y él era un hombre viejo en los días de Saúl.
Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Beth-lechem-judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man was old in the days of Saul, belonging to the persons [of high esteem].
13 Y los tres hijos mayores de Isaí habían ido con Saúl a la pelea: los nombres de los tres que fueron a la pelea fueron Eliab, el mayor, y Abinadab el segundo, y Sama el tercero.
And the three eldest sons of Jesse were gone following Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that were gone to the battle were Eliab the first-born, and the next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
14 Y David era el más joven, y los tres más viejos estaban con el ejército de Saúl.
And David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul.
15 Entonces David iba ocasionalmente dejando Saúl, para cuidar las ovejas de su padre en Belén.
But David kept going and returning from Saul to feed his father's flocks at Beth-lechem.
16 Y el filisteo se acercaba cada mañana y por la tarde por cuarenta días.
And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
17 E Isai dijo a su hijo David: Toma ahora, para tus hermanos, un efa de este grano seco y estos diez panes, y ve rápidamente al campamento de tus hermanos;
And Jesse said unto David his son, Take, I pray thee, for thy brothers an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brothers;
18 Y lleva estos diez quesos al capitán de sus mil, y mira cómo están tus hermanos y regresa con una señal que están bien.
And these ten cheeses shalt thou bring unto the captain of the thousand, and inquire of thy brothers how they fare, and take away their pledge.
19 Entonces Saúl, y ellos, y todos los hombres de Israel estaban en el valle de Ela, luchando contra los filisteos.
Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
20 David se levantó temprano por la mañana y, poniendo las ovejas al cuidado de un cuidador, tomó las cosas y se fue como Isai había dicho; y llegó a las líneas donde estaban los carros, cuando el ejército salía a la lucha dando su grito de guerra.
And David rose up early in the morning, and gave up the flocks to a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the entrenchment, as the host was going forth in battle-array, and shouted the battle-cry.
21 E Israel y los filisteos habían puesto sus fuerzas en posición, ejército contra ejército.
And the Israelites and the Philistines put themselves in battle-array, army against army.
22 Y David entregó sus paquetes en manos del guardián de los campamentos del ejército, corrió hacia el ejército y se acercó a sus hermanos para saludarlos.
And David left the articles which he had on him in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran into the array, and came and asked of his brothers after their welfare.
23 Y mientras les hablaba, él guerrero, el filisteo de Gat, Goliat de nombre, salió de las líneas de los filisteos y dijo las mismas palabras, al oír a David.
And as he was speaking with them, behold, there came up the champion, Goliath the Philistine, by name, of Gath, out of the battle-arrays of the Philistines, and spoke in accordance with these same words: and David heard it.
24 Y todos los hombres de Israel, cuando lo vieron, salieron huyendo, vencidos por el temor.
And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from before him, and were greatly afraid.
25 Y los hombres de Israel dijeron: ¿Has visto a este hombre? Claramente, él ha salido para desafiar a Israel; y es cierto que si algún hombre lo mata, el rey le dará grandes riquezas, le dará a su hija y la familia de su padre quedará exenta de impuestos en Israel.
And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is coming forth? for to defy Israel is he coming forth; and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, —him will the king enrich with great riches, and his daughter will he give him, and his father's house will he make free in Israel.
26 Y David dijo a los hombres que estaban cerca de él: ¿Qué se hará al hombre que venciere a este filisteo y quita la vergüenza de Israel? porque ¿quién es este filisteo, un hombre incircunciso, que ha avergonzado a los ejércitos del Dios vivo?
And David said to the men that stood by him, thus, What shall be done to the man that may smite yon Philistine, and take away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the arrays of the living God?
27 Y el pueblo le dio respuesta que antes habían dicho: Así se hará al hombre que lo venciere.
And the people spoke to him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that may smite him.
28 Y Eliab, su hermano mayor, al escuchar lo que David dijo a los hombres, se enfureció en contra David y dijo: ¿Por qué has venido aquí? ¿A qué cuidado le has dado ese pequeño rebaño de ovejas en el desierto? Conozco de tu orgullo y la insolencia de tu corazón, has bajado para ver la lucha.
And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he was speaking unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why didst thou come down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy presumption, and the wickedness of thy heart; for in order to see the battle art thou come down.
29 Y David dijo: ¿Qué he hecho ahora? Si apenas he hablado.
And David said, What have I now done? It is nothing but a word.
30 Y apartándose de él a uno de los otros hombres, dijo las mismas palabras: y la gente le dio la misma respuesta.
And he turned from him toward another, and spoke after the same manner: and the people made him again a reply after the former manner.
31 Al oír lo que dijo David, se lo dijeron a Saúl y lo envió por él.
And the words which David had spoken were heard, and they told them in the presence of Saul, who sent for him.
32 Entonces David dijo a Saúl: No se debilite el corazón de nadie a causa de él; Yo, tu siervo, saldré y pelearé con este filisteo.
And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him: thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
33 Entonces Saúl dijo a David: No puedes salir contra este filisteo y pelear con él; porque eres solo un niño, y él ha sido un hombre de guerra desde sus primeros días.
And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go unto this Philistine to fight with him; for thou art but a lad, and he [hath been] a man of war from his youth.
34 Entonces David dijo a Saúl: Tu siervo cuidó las ovejas de su padre; y si un león o un oso viniera y sacara un cordero del rebaño,
And David said unto Saul, Thy servant was feeding his father's flocks, and there came a lion, and a bear, and bore off a lamb out of the drove;
35 Salí tras él, lo vencí y lo saqué de su boca. Y, volviéndose hacia mí, se me acercó, lo cogí por el pelo, lo vencí y lo maté.
And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he rose up against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
36 Tu siervo ha vencido al león y al oso, y el destino de este filisteo, que no tiene circuncisión, será como el de ellos, ya que ha avergonzado a los ejércitos del Dios vivo.
Both the lion and the bear did thy servant smite: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall become as one of them; because he hath defied the arrays of the living God.
37 Y David dijo: El Señor, que me mantuvo a salvo de las garras del león y el oso, será mi salvador de las manos de este filisteo. Y Saúl dijo a David: ¡Ve! y que el Señor esté contigo.
Moreover David said, The Lord who hath delivered me out of the power of the lion, and out of the power of the bear, will also surely deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and may the Lord be with thee.
38 Entonces Saúl le dio a David su atuendo de guerra, le puso un tocado de bronce en la cabeza y lo hizo vestir con una coraza de bronce.
And Saul clothed David with his garments, and he put a helmet of copper upon his head; and he clothed him also with a coat of mail.
39 Entonces David tomó la espada de Saúl y puso la banda alrededor de él sobre el abrigo de metal, y no pudo avanzar; porque no estaba acostumbrado a ellos. Entonces David dijo a Saúl: No me es posible salir con esto, porque no estoy acostumbrado a ellos. Así que David se los quitó.
And David girded his sword over his garments, and he essayed to go; for he had not tried it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot walk in these [things]; for I have never tried it before. And David put them off from him.
40 Luego tomó su vara en su mano, tomó cinco piedras lisas de la cama del arroyo y las puso en una bolsa como la que usan los encargados de las ovejas; y en su mano había una banda de cuero que se usaba para enviar piedras, y se dirigió hacia el filisteo.
And he took his staff in his hand, and chose himself five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd's pouch which be had, even in a scrip, with his sling in his hand; and he approached to the Philistine.
41 Y el filisteo se acercó a David; y el escudero iba delante de él.
And the Philistine went and drew nearer and nearer unto David; and the man that bore the shield went before him.
42 Y cuando el filisteo, tomando nota, vio a David, tuvo una mala opinión de él, porque era solo un muchacho, pelirrojo y buen mozo.
And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a lad, and ruddy, with a fair appearance.
43 Y el filisteo dijo a David: ¿Soy yo un perro que vienes a mí con palos? Y el filisteo puso maldiciones sobre David por todos sus dioses.
And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest unto me with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 Y el filisteo dijo a David: Ven aquí, y daré tu carne a las aves del aire y a las bestias del campo.
And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the heavens, and to the beasts of the field.
45 Entonces David dijo al filisteo: Tú vienes a mí con una espada, una lanza y una jabalina; pero yo vengo a ti en el nombre del Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de los ejércitos de Israel sobre el cual tú has desafiado.
Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest unto me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin; but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the arrays of Israel, that thou hast defied.
46 En este día el Señor te entregará en mis manos, y yo te venceré y te quitaré la cabeza. y daré los cuerpos del ejército filisteo a las aves del aire y las bestias de la tierra hoy, para que toda la tierra vea que Israel tiene un Dios;
This day will the Lord deliver thee into my hand; and I will smite thee, and remove thy head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the army of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; and all the earth shall know that there is a God for Israel.
47 Y todas estas personas que están aquí hoy pueden ver que el Señor no da la salvación con la espada y la lanza. Porque la lucha es del Señor, y él te entregará en nuestras manos.
And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not through sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you up into our hand.
48 Cuando el filisteo hizo un movimiento y se acercó a David, David corrió rápidamente en dirección al ejército y se encontró cara a cara con el filisteo.
And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and went and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the battle-array to meet the Philistine.
49 Entonces David metió la mano en su bolsa, sacó una piedra y la envió desde su banda de cuero directamente al filisteo, y la piedra se hundió en su frente, y él descendió a la tierra, cayendo de cara al suelo.
And David put his hand into the pouch, and took thence a stone, and slung it, and he struck the Philistine on his forehead, and the stone sunk into his forehead: and he fell upon his face to the ground.
50 Entonces David venció al filisteo con su banda de cuero y una piedra, hiriendo al filisteo y causando su muerte: pero David no tenía espada en la mano.
So David prevailed over the Philistine with the sling and with the stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
51 Entonces, corriendo hacia el filisteo y poniéndole el pie encima, David sacó su espada de la cubierta y lo mató, cortándole la cabeza con ella. Y cuando los filisteos vieron que su guerrero estaba muerto, salieron en vuelo.
And David ran, and stood by the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of its sheath, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they fled.
52 Y levantándose los hombres de Israel y de Judá, dieron voces y fueron tras los filisteos hasta Gat y las puertas de la ciudad de Ecrón. Y los heridos de los filisteos estaban cayendo por el camino desde Saaraim hasta Gat y Ecrón.
And then arose the men of Israel and of Judah, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou comest to the valley, and to the gates of 'Ekron. And the slain of the Philistines fell down by the way to Sha'arayim, even as far as Gath, and up to 'Ekron.
53 Entonces los hijos de Israel volvieron de perseguir a los filisteos, y tomaron sus bienes de las tiendas.
And the children of Israel returned from hotly pursuing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their camps.
54 Entonces David llevó la cabeza del filisteo a Jerusalén, pero el vestido de guerra de metal y los brazos los puso en su campamento.
And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but his weapons he placed in his tent.
55 Cuando Saúl vio salir a David contra el filisteo, le dijo a Abner, el capitán del ejército, Abner, ¿de quién es hijo este joven? Y Abner dijo: oh rey, no tengo idea.
And when Saul saw David going forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the army, Abner, whose son is this lad? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I know it not.
56 Y el rey dijo: Busquen y vean de quién es este joven.
And the king said, Ask thou whose son this youth is.
57 Cuando David regresaba después de la destrucción del filisteo, Abner lo llevó a Saúl, con la cabeza del filisteo en la mano.
And as David returned from smiting the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
58 Y Saúl le dijo: Joven, ¿de quién eres hijo? Y respondiendo David, dijo: Soy hijo de tu siervo Isaí de Belén.
And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, young man? And David answered, The son of thy servant Jesse the Beth-lechemite.
