1 Samuel 16

1 Entonces el Señor le dijo a Samuel: ¿Cuánto tiempo más seguirás lamentando a Saúl, viendo que lo he rechazado como rey sobre Israel? Toma aceite en tu cuerno y vete; Te enviaré a Isaí, el de Belén, porque tengo un rey para mí entre sus hijos.

And YHWH says to Samuel, “Until when are you mourning for Saul, and I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go, I send you to Jesse the Beth-Lehemite, for I have seen among his sons a king for Myself.”

2 Y Samuel dijo: ¿Cómo puedo ir? Si Saúl recibe noticias de eso, me matará. Y el Señor dijo: Llévate una becerra y di: He venido para hacer una ofrenda al Señor.

And Samuel says, “How do I go? When Saul has heard, then he has slain me.” And YHWH says, “You take a heifer of the herd in your hand, and have said, I have come to sacrifice to YHWH;

3 Envía a Isaí para que esté presente en la ofrenda, y te diré lo que debes hacer, y debes ungir el aceite santo sobre aquel cuyo nombre te doy.

and you have called for Jesse in the sacrifice, and I cause you to know that which you do, and you have anointed for Me him of whom I speak to you.”

4 Entonces Samuel hizo lo que el Señor le dijo y fue a Belén. Y los ancianos del pueblo se acercaron temerosos y le dijeron: ¿Vienes en paz?

And Samuel does that which YHWH has spoken, and comes to Beth-Lehem, and [the] elderly of the city tremble to meet him, and [one] says, “Is your coming peace?”

5 Y él dijo: En paz, he venido para hacer una ofrenda al Señor; consagrense y vengan conmigo a hacer la ofrenda. E hizo consagrar a Isaí y a sus hijos, y envió a que estuvieran presentes en la ofrenda.

And he says, “Peace; I have come to sacrifice to YHWH, sanctify yourselves, and you have come in with me to the sacrifice”; and he sanctifies Jesse and his sons, and calls them to the sacrifice.

6 Cuando llegaron, mirando a Eliab, dijo: Claramente, el hombre de la selección del Señor está delante de él.

And it comes to pass, in their coming in, that he sees Eliab and says, “Surely His anointed [is] here before YHWH.”

7 Pero el Señor le dijo a Samuel: No tomes nota de su rostro ni de cuán alto sea, porque no lo tendré; porque el punto de vista del Señor no es del hombre; el hombre toma nota de la forma externa, pero el Señor ve el corazón.

And YHWH says to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance, and at the height of his stature, for I have rejected him; for [it is] not as man sees—for man looks at the eyes, and YHWH looks at the heart.”

8 Entonces Isaí envió a buscar a Abinadab y lo hizo venir ante Samuel. Y él dijo: El Señor no ha escogido este.

And Jesse calls to Abinadab, and causes him to pass by before Samuel; and he says, “Indeed, YHWH has not fixed on this [one].”

9 Entonces Isaí hizo que Sama viniera delante de él. Y él dijo: El Señor no ha escogido a este.

And Jesse causes Shammah to pass by, and he says, “Indeed, YHWH has not fixed on this [one].”

10 E hizo Isaí que sus siete hijos fueran antes que Samuel. Y Samuel dijo a Isaí: El Señor no ha escogido a ninguno de estos.

And Jesse causes seven of his sons to pass by before Samuel, and Samuel says to Jesse, “YHWH has not fixed on these.”

11 Entonces Samuel dijo a Isaí: ¿Están todos tus hijos aquí? Y él dijo: Todavía hay el más joven, y él está cuidando las ovejas. Y Samuel dijo a Isai: envía y haz que venga aquí, porque no nos sentaremos hasta que él esté aquí.

And Samuel says to Jesse, “Are the young men finished?” And he says, “Yet the youngest has been left; and behold, he delights himself among the flock”; and Samuel says to Jesse, “Send and take him, for we do not turn around until his coming in here.”

12 Entonces envió y lo hizo entrar. Ahora tenía el pelo rojo y ojos hermosos y bien parecido. Y el Señor dijo: Ven, úngelo con aceite, porque este es él.

And he sends, and brings him in, and he [is] ruddy, with beautiful eyes, and of good appearance; and YHWH says, “Rise, anoint him, for this [is] he.”

13 Entonces Samuel tomó el cuerno de aceite y puso el aceite sobre él entre sus hermanos; y desde ese día el espíritu del Señor vino sobre David con poder. Entonces Samuel volvió a Ramá.

And Samuel takes the horn of oil, and anoints him in the midst of his brothers, and the Spirit of YHWH prospers over David from that day and onward; and Samuel rises and goes to Ramath.

14 Ahora el espíritu del Señor había dejado a Saúl, y un espíritu maligno de parte de Señor lo estaba molestando.

And the Spirit of YHWH turned aside from Saul, and a spirit of sadness from YHWH terrified him;

15 Y los siervos de Saúl le dijeron: Mira, un espíritu maligno de Dios te está molestando.

and the servants of Saul say to him, “Now behold, a spirit of sadness [from] God is terrifying you;

16 Ahora da órdenes a tus siervos que están aquí delante de ti para que vayan en busca de un hombre que sea un experto en tocar un instrumento con cuerda: y será que cuando el espíritu maligno de Dios esté sobre ti, tocará música para ti en su instrumento, y te pondrás bien.

now let our lord command your servants before you [that] they seek a skillful man playing on a harp, and it has come to pass, in the spirit of sadness [from] God being on you, that he has played with his hand and [it is] well with you.”

17 Entonces Saúl dijo a sus siervos: Consígueme un hombre que toque bien música y haz que venga a mí.

And Saul says to his servants, “Now provide for me a man playing well—then you have brought [him] to me.”

18 Entonces uno de los sirvientes en respuesta dijo: He visto a un hijo de Isaí, de belén, entrenado en música y toca bien, y un hombre fuerte y un hombre de guerra; y él es sabio en sus palabras, y agradable en apariencia, y el Señor está con él.

And one of the servants answers and says, “Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Beth-Lehemite, skillful in playing, and a mighty, virtuous man, and a man of battle, and intelligent in word, and a man of form, and YHWH [is] with him.”

19 Entonces Saúl envió a sus siervos a Isaí y dijo: Envíame a tu hijo David, que está con las ovejas.

And Saul sends messengers to Jesse and says, “Send to me your son David, who [is] with the flock.”

20 Entonces Isaí envío un asno cargado con cinco tartas de pan y una piel de vino y un cabrito y las envió a Saúl con David.

And Jesse takes a donkey, bread, and a bottle of wine, and one kid of the goats, and sends [them] by the hand of his son David to Saul.

21 Vino David a Saúl, que esperaba delante de él, y se hizo muy querido por Saúl, que lo hizo su siervo y le hizo su paje de armas.

And David comes to Saul, and stands before him, and he loves him greatly; and he is a bearer of his weapons.

22 Entonces Saúl envió a Isaí diciendo: Que David se quede conmigo, porque ha hallado gracia en mis ojos.

And Saul sends to Jesse, saying, “Please let David stand before me, for he has found grace in my eyes.”

23 Y cada vez que el espíritu maligno de Dios venía a Saúl, David tomaba su instrumento y hacía música: así le llegó una nueva vida a Saúl, y él mejoró, y el espíritu maligno se fue de él.

And it has come to pass, in the spirit of [sadness from] God being on Saul, that David has taken the harp, and played with his hand, and Saul has refreshment and gladness, and the spirit of sadness has turned aside from off him.
