1 Samuel 14

1 Un día Jonatán, hijo de Saúl, dijo al joven que estaba con él, cuidando de sus armas: Ven, vamos a la guarnición filistea que está al otro lado. Pero no le dijo nada a su padre.

One day Jonathan son of Saul said to the young man bearing his armor, “Come, let us cross over to the Philistine outpost on the other side.” But Jonathan did not tell his father.

2 Y Saúl todavía esperaba en la parte más alejada de Geba, debajo de un granado en Migrón: había unos seiscientos hombres con él;

Meanwhile, Saul was staying under the pomegranate tree in Migron on the outskirts of Gibeah. And the troops who were with him numbered about six hundred men,

3 Y Ahías, hijo de Ahitob, hermano de Icabod, hijo de Finees, hijo de Elí, sacerdote del Señor en Silo, que tenía el efod. Y la gente no tenía idea de que Jonatan se había ido.

including Ahijah, who was wearing an ephod. He was the son of Ichabod’s brother Ahitub son of Phinehas, the son of Eli the priest of the LORD in Shiloh. But the troops did not know that Jonathan had left.

4 Ahora, entre los estrechos caminos sobre las montañas por las que Jonatán se dirigía hacia las fuerzas de los filisteos, había una roca afilada que sobresalía en un lado y una roca afilada en el otro lado, una se llamaba Boses y el otro Sene.

Now there were cliffs on both sides of the pass that Jonathan intended to cross to reach the Philistine outpost. One was named Bozez and the other Seneh.

5 Una roca subió al norte frente a Micmas y la otra al sur frente a Guibeá.

One cliff stood to the north toward Michmash, and the other to the south toward Geba.

6 Y Jonatán dijo a su joven siervo que tenía sus armas: Ven, vamos a los ejércitos de estos hombres que no tienen circuncisión: puede ser que el Señor nos ayude, porque no hay límite a su poder; el Señor puede dar la salvación por un gran ejército o por una pequeña banda.

Jonathan said to the young man bearing his armor, “Come, let us cross over to the outpost of these uncircumcised men. Perhaps the LORD will work on our behalf. Nothing can hinder the LORD from saving, whether by many or by few.”

7 Y su criado le dijo: Haz lo que esté en tu mente; mira, estoy contigo en cada impulso de tu corazón.

His armor-bearer replied, “Do all that is in your heart. Go ahead; I am with you heart and soul.”

8 Entonces Jonatán dijo: Ahora pasaremos a estos hombres y dejaremos que nos vean.

“Very well,” said Jonathan, “we will cross over toward these men and show ourselves to them.

9 Si nos dicen: Quédate quieto donde estás hasta que lleguemos a ustedes; entonces mantendremos nuestros lugares y no subiremos a ellos.

If they say, ‘Wait until we come to you,’ then we will stay where we are and will not go up to them.

10 Pero si ellos dicen: Vengan acá; luego subiremos, porque el Señor los ha entregado en nuestras manos, y esta será la señal para nosotros.

But if they say, ‘Come on up,’ then we will go up, because this will be our sign that the LORD has delivered them into our hands.”

11 Y dejaron que los filisteos los vieran a los dos; y los filisteos dijeron: ¡Miren! Los hebreos están saliendo de los agujeros donde se han cubierto.

So the two of them showed themselves to the outpost of the Philistines, who exclaimed, “Look, the Hebrews are coming out of the holes in which they were hiding!”

12 Y los hombres armados de la fuerza respondieron a Jonatán y su siervo, diciendo: Vengan a nosotros y le dejaremos ver algo. Entonces Jonatán dijo a su siervo: Sube conmigo, porque el Señor los ha entregado en manos de Israel.

So the men of the outpost called out to Jonathan and his armor-bearer, “Come on up, and we will teach you a lesson!” “Follow me,” Jonathan told his armor-bearer, “for the LORD has delivered them into the hand of Israel.”

13 Subió Jonatán con sus manos y sus pies, y su siervo subió tras él; y los filisteos caían ante Jonatán, y su siervo los mataba después de él.

So Jonathan climbed up on his hands and feet, with his armor-bearer behind him. And the Philistines fell before Jonathan, and his armor-bearer followed and finished them off.

14 En su primer ataque, Jonatán y su criado mataron a la espada a unos veinte hombres, todos en el espacio de medio acre de tierra.

In that first assault, Jonathan and his armor-bearer struck down about twenty men over half an acre of land.

15 Y había gran temor en los campamentos, y por el campo y entre todos los hombres de la fuerza armada, y los que merodeaban temblaban de miedo; incluso la tierra tembló con un gran temblor y hubo un temor por Dios.

Then terror struck the Philistines in the camp, in the field, and among all the people. Even those in the outposts and raiding parties trembled. Indeed, the earth quaked and panic spread from God.

16 Y los vigilantes de Saúl, mirando desde Geba en la tierra de Benjamín, vieron a todo el ejército fluir y correr aquí y allá.

Now when Saul’s watchmen at Gibeah in Benjamin looked and saw the troops melting away and scattering in every direction,

17 Entonces Saúl dijo a la gente que estaba con él: Pasen revista y veamos quién se ha ido de nosotros. Y cuando fueron contados, se vio que Jonatán y su escudero no estaban allí.

Saul said to the troops who were with him, “Call the roll and see who has left us.” And when they had called the roll, they saw that Jonathan and his armor-bearer were not there.

18 Y Saúl dijo a Ahías: Que venga aquí el cofre del pacto. Porque él cofre del pacto estaba con Israel en ese momento.

Then Saul said to Ahijah, “Bring the ark of God.” (For at that time it was with the Israelites.)

19 Mientras Saúl hablaba con el sacerdote, el ruido en los campamentos de los filisteos se hizo cada vez más fuerte; Y Saúl dijo al sacerdote: detén tu mano.

While Saul was talking to the priest, the commotion in the Philistine camp continued to increase. So Saul said to the priest, “Withdraw your hand.”

20 Entonces Saúl y todas las personas que estaban con él se reunieron y avanzaron a la lucha: y la espada de cada uno se volvió contra el hombre que estaba a su lado, y se oyó un gran ruido.

Then Saul and all his troops assembled and marched to the battle, and they found the Philistines in total confusion, with each man wielding the sword against his neighbor.

21 Entonces los hebreos que habían estado con los filisteos por algún tiempo, y habían subido con ellos a sus campamentos, se dieron vuelta y se unieron a los que estaban con Saúl y Jonatán.

And the Hebrews who had previously gone up into the surrounding camps of the Philistines now went over to the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.

22 Y todos los hombres de Israel que se habían refugiado en la región montañosa de Efraín, al oír que los filisteos habían huido, los persiguieron y los atacaron.

When all the Israelites who had been hiding in the hill country of Ephraim heard that the Philistines were fleeing, they also joined Saul and Jonathan in the battle.

23 Entonces él Señor salvó a Israel aquel día, y la lucha se extendió a Bet-avén.

So the LORD saved Israel that day, and the battle moved on beyond Beth-aven.

24 Y todo el pueblo de Israel estaba en gran apuro, unos veinte mil hombres, y la lucha fue general en toda la región montañosa de Efraín. Pero Saúl cometió un gran error ese día al poner bajo juramento a la gente, diciendo: “Que se maldiga al hombre que come antes de que llegue la noche y que haya castigado a los que están en mi contra”. Así que la gente no había comido.

Now the men of Israel were in distress that day, for Saul had placed the troops under an oath, saying, “Cursed is the man who eats any food before evening, before I have taken vengeance on my enemies.” So none of the troops tasted any food.

25 Y había miel en el campo, y todo el pueblo vino a la miel, habiendo salido las abejas;

Then all the troops entered the forest, and there was honey on the ground.

26 Pero ningún hombre se llevó la mano a la boca por temor a la maldición.

And when they entered the forest and saw the flowing honey, not one of them put his hand to his mouth, because they feared the oath.

27 Pero Jonatán, no sabiendo el juramento que su padre había puesto sobre la gente, extendiendo la vara que tenía en la mano, la puso en la miel y se la puso en la boca; entonces sus ojos brillaron.

Jonathan, however, had not heard that his father had charged the people with the oath. So he reached out the end of the staff in his hand, dipped it into the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes brightened.

28 Entonces uno de los de la gente le dijo: Tu padre juró a la gente, diciendo: Que se maldiga al hombre que come algo hoy. Y la gente era débil, necesitando comida.

Then one of the soldiers told him, “Your father bound the troops with a solemn oath, saying, ‘Cursed is the man who eats food today.’ That is why the people are faint.”

29 Entonces Jonatán dijo: Mi padre ha hecho que los problemas lleguen a la tierra: ahora mira qué tan brillantes se han vuelto mis ojos porque he tomado un poco de esta miel.

“My father has brought trouble to the land,” Jonathan replied. “Just look at how my eyes have brightened because I tasted a little of this honey.

30 ¡Cuánto más si la gente hubiera tomado libremente su comida de los bienes de los que luchaban contra ellos! ¿No habría habido una destrucción mucho mayor entre los filisteos?

How much better it would have been if the troops had eaten freely today from the plunder they took from their enemies! Would not the slaughter of the Philistines have been much greater?”

31 Ese día vencieron a los filisteos de Micmas hasta Ajalón, y la gente estaba débil por la necesidad de comida.

That day, after the Israelites had struck down the Philistines from Michmash to Aijalon, the people were very faint.

32 Apresurándose a los bienes tomados en la lucha, la gente tomó carneros y ovejas y becerros, y los mató allí en la tierra, y comió, tomando la carne con la sangre en ella.

So they rushed greedily to the plunder, taking sheep, cattle, and calves. They slaughtered them on the ground and ate meat with the blood still in it.

33 Entonces se dijo a Saúl: Mira, la gente está pecando contra el Señor, tomando la sangre con la carne. Y dijo a los que le dieron la noticia: Ahora, hágame rodar una gran piedra aquí.

Then someone reported to Saul: “Look, the troops are sinning against the LORD by eating meat with the blood still in it.” “You have broken faith,” said Saul. “Roll a large stone over here at once.”

34 Entonces Saúl dijo: Llamen al pueblo y díganles: Vengan todos los hombres aquí con su toro y sus ovejas, y matenlos aquí, y tomen su comida: no pequen contra el Señor tomando la sangre con la carne. Así que toda la gente llevó sus toros esa noche y los mató allí.

Then he said, “Go among the troops and tell them, ‘Each man must bring me his ox or his sheep, slaughter them in this place, and then eat. Do not sin against the LORD by eating meat with the blood still in it.’” So that night everyone brought his ox and slaughtered it there.

35 Entonces Saúl levantó un altar al Señor: este fue el primer altar que él puso al Señor.

Then Saul built an altar to the LORD; it was the first time he had built an altar to the LORD.

36 Entonces Saúl dijo: Bajemos después de los filisteos por la noche, atacándolos hasta la mañana, hasta que no haya un hombre de ellos vivo. Y ellos dijeron: Haz lo que te parezca correcto. Entonces el sacerdote dijo: Consultemos a Dios.

And Saul said, “Let us go down after the Philistines by night and plunder them until dawn, leaving no man alive!” “Do what seems good to you,” the troops replied. But the priest said, “We must consult God here.”

37 Y Saúl, deseando instrucciones de Dios, dijo: ¿Voy a bajar después de los Filisteos? ¿Los entregarás en manos de Israel? Pero no le dio respuesta ese día.

So Saul inquired of God, “Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will You give them into the hand of Israel?” But God did not answer him that day.

38 Y Saúl dijo: Acérquense, jefes del pueblo, y recibamos un mensaje de Dios y veamos en quién está este pecado hoy.

Therefore Saul said, “Come here, all you leaders of the troops, and let us investigate how this sin has occurred today.

39 Porque, por el Señor viviente, el salvador de Israel, aunque el pecador sea Jonatán, hijo mío, la muerte ciertamente será su destino. Pero ningún hombre entre todas las personas le dio una respuesta.

As surely as the LORD who saves Israel lives, even if it is my son Jonathan, he must die!” But not one of the troops said a word.

40 Entonces dijo a todo Israel: Estarás de un lado, y yo estaré con Jonatán, mi hijo, del otro lado. Y la gente le dijo a Saúl: Haz lo que te parezca bien.

Then Saul said to all Israel, “You stand on one side, and I and my son Jonathan will stand on the other side.” “Do what seems good to you,” the troops replied.

41 Entonces Saúl dijo al Señor, el Dios de Israel: ¿Por qué no me has dado una respuesta hoy? Si el pecado está en mí o en mi hijo Jonatán, oh Señor Dios de Israel, da Urim, y si está en tu pueblo Israel, echa suertes. Y por decisión del Señor, y Jonatán quedó marcado, y la gente quedó libre.

So Saul said to the LORD, the God of Israel, “Why have You not answered Your servant this day? If the fault is with me or my son Jonathan, respond with Urim; but if the fault is with the men of Israel, respond with Thummim.” And Jonathan and Saul were selected, but the people were cleared of the charge.

42 Y Saúl dijo: Toma tu decisión entre mi hijo Jonatán y yo. Y Jonatán fue tomado.

Then Saul said, “Cast the lot between me and my son Jonathan.” And Jonathan was selected.

43 Entonces Saúl dijo a Jonatán: Cuéntame lo que has hecho. Y Jonatán le contó la historia y dijo: Ciertamente tomé un poco de miel con la punta de mi vara; Y ahora la muerte será mi destino.

“Tell me what you have done,” Saul commanded him. So Jonathan told him, “I only tasted a little honey with the end of the staff that was in my hand. And now I must die?”

44 Y Saúl dijo: Que el castigo de Dios sea conmigo y aun añada, si no mueres, Jonatán.

And Saul declared, “May God punish me, and ever so severely, if you, Jonathan, do not surely die!”

45 Y el pueblo dijo a Saúl: ¿Ha de venir la muerte a Jonatán, el trabajador de esta gran salvación para Israel? Que no sea así: por el Señor vivo, no se debe tocar un solo cabello de su cabeza, porque él ha estado trabajando con Dios hoy. Así que la gente libró a Jonatan de la muerte.

But the people said to Saul, “Must Jonathan die—he who accomplished such a great deliverance for Israel? Never! As surely as the LORD lives, not a hair of his head will fall to the ground, for with God’s help he has accomplished this today.” So the people rescued Jonathan, and he did not die.

46 Entonces Saúl, volviendo atrás, dejó de seguir a los filisteos, y los filisteos volvieron a su lugar.

Then Saul gave up his pursuit of the Philistines, and the Philistines returned to their own land.

47 Cuando Saúl ocupó su lugar como gobernante de Israel, hizo la guerra a los que estaban contra él por todos lados, Moab y los amonitas y Edom y los reyes de Soba y los filisteos: y dondequiera que se volvía, los vencía.

After Saul had assumed the kingship over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side—the Moabites, the Ammonites, the Edomites, the kings of Zobah, and the Philistines. Wherever he turned, he routed them.

48 Y reunió un ejército, venció a los amalecitas y salvó a Israel de mano de los saqueadores.

He fought valiantly and defeated the Amalekites, delivering Israel from the hands of its plunderers.

49 Ahora bien, los hijos de Saúl fueron Jonatán e Isui y Malquisua; y estos son los nombres de sus hijas: la mayor se llamaba Merab y la menor Mical;

Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, Ishvi, and Malchishua. His two daughters were named Merab (his firstborn) and Michal (his younger daughter).

50 El nombre de la esposa de Saúl fue Ahinoam, la hija de Ahimaas; El capitán de su ejército fue Abner, el hijo de Ner, hermano del padre de Saúl.

His wife’s name was Ahinoam daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the commander of his army was Abner, the son of Saul’s uncle Ner.

51 Cis, el padre de Saúl, y Ner, el padre de Abner, eran hijos de Abiel.

Saul’s father Kish and Abner’s father Ner were sons of Abiel.

52 A lo largo de la vida de Saúl hubo una guerra amarga contra los filisteos; y cada vez que Saúl veía a un hombre fuerte o a un buen luchador, lo mantenía cerca de sí mismo.

And the war with the Philistines was fierce for all the days of Saul. So whenever he noticed any strong or brave man, Saul would enlist him.
