1 Reyes 20
1 Entonces Ben-adad, rey de Siria, reunió a todo su ejército, y treinta y dos reyes con él, y caballos y carruajes de guerra; subió e hizo la guerra a Samaria, cerrándola.
And Ben-hadad the king of Syria gathered all his army together. And there were thirty-two kings with him, and horses and chariots. And he went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.
2 Y envió representantes a la ciudad de Acab, rey de Israel;
And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel, into the city, and said to him, Thus says Ben-hadad,
3 Y le dijeron: Ben-adad dice: Tu plata y tu oro son míos y tus esposas e hijos son míos.
Thy silver and thy gold is mine, thy wives also and thy sons, even the best, are mine.
4 Y el rey de Israel le envió una respuesta diciendo: Como digas, mi señor rey, es tuyo todo lo que tengo.
And the king of Israel answered and said, It is according to thy saying, my lord, O king, I am thine, and all that I have.
5 Luego volvieron los representantes a Acab y dijeron: Estas son las palabras de Ben-adad: “Te envié diciendo: Tienes que darme tu plata, tu oro, tus esposas y tus hijos;
And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaks Ben-hadad, saying, I indeed sent to thee, saying, Thou shall deliver to me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy sons.
6 Pero mañana enviaré a mis sirvientes a estas horas, para que busquen en tu casa y en las casas de tu pueblo, y todo lo que sea agradable a sus ojos lo tomarán para sí.
But I will send my servants to thee tomorrow about this time, and they shall search thy house, and the houses of thy servants. And it shall be, that whatever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.
7 Entonces el rey de Israel envió a todos los hombres responsables de la tierra, y dijo: Ahora tomarán nota y verán el mal propósito de este hombre: envió por mis esposas y mis hijos, mi plata y mi oro, y no los retuve.
Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeks mischief, for he sent to me for my wives, and for my sons, and for my silver, and for my gold, and I did not deny him.
8 Y todos los hombres responsables y la gente le dijeron: No le prestes atención ni hagas lo que él dice.
And all the elders and all the people said to him, Do thou not hearken, nor consent.
9 Entonces dijo a los representantes de Ben-adad: Di a mi señor el rey: Todas las órdenes que enviaste la primera vez haré; Pero esta cosa no puedo hacer. Y los representantes volvieron con esta respuesta.
Therefore he said to the messengers of Ben-hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou sent for to thy servant at the first I will do, but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.
10 Entonces Ben-adad envió a él, diciendo: Que el castigo de los dioses sea mío, si queda suficiente polvo de Samaria para que toda la gente a mi servicio tome algo en sus manos.
And Ben-hadad sent to him, and said, The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.
11 Y respondiendo el rey de Israel, díganle: No cantes victoria antes de tiempo.
And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him who girds on his armor boast himself as he who puts it off.
12 Ahora, cuando esta respuesta fue dada a Ben-adad, estaba bebiendo con los reyes en las tiendas, y dijo a sus hombres: “Toma tus posiciones”. Así que se pusieron en posición de atacar el pueblo.
And it came to pass, when Ben-hadad heard this message as he was drinking, he and the kings, in the pavilions, that he said to his servants, Set yourselves in array. And they set themselves in array against the city.
13 Entonces un profeta se acercó a Acab, rey de Israel, y le dijo: El Señor dice: ¿Has visto todo este gran ejército? Mira, lo entregaré hoy en tus manos, y verás que yo soy el Señor.
And, behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, Thus says Jehovah, Have thou seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into thy hand this day, and thou shall know that I am Jehovah.
14 Y Acab dijo: ¿Por quién? Y él dijo: el Señor dice: Por los siervos de los jefes que están sobre las divisiones de la tierra. Luego dijo: ¿Por quién se iniciará la lucha? Y él respondió: Por ti.
And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus says Jehovah, By the young men of the rulers of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall begin the battle? And he answered, Thou.
15 Entonces reunió a los siervos de todos los jefes que estaban sobre las divisiones de la tierra, doscientos treinta y dos de ellos; y después de ellos, reunió a todo el pueblo, a todos los hijos de Israel, siete mil.
Then he mustered the young men of the rulers of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two. And after them he mustered all the people, even all the sons of Israel, being seven thousand.
16 Y a medio día salieron. Pero Ben-adad estaba bebiendo en las tiendas con los treinta y dos reyes que lo estaban ayudando.
And they went out at noon. But Ben-hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty-two kings who helped him.
17 Y los servidores de los jefes que estaban sobre las divisiones de la tierra fueron los primeros; y cuando Ben-adad envió, le dieron la noticia, diciendo: Han salido hombres de Samaria.
And the young men of the rulers of the provinces went out first. And Ben-hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out from Samaria.
18 Y él dijo: Si han salido por la paz, tómenlos vivos, y si han salido por la guerra, tómenlos vivos.
And he said, Whether they come out for peace, take them alive, or whether they come out for war, take them alive.
19 Entonces los siervos de los jefes de las divisiones de la tierra salieron del pueblo, y el ejército los siguió.
So these went out of the city, the young men of the rulers of the provinces, and the army which followed them.
20 Y cada uno de ellos mató a un contrario, y los sirios huyeron con Israel tras ellos; y Ben-adad, rey de Siria, escapó a salvo con un caballo con sus jinetes.
And they killed everyone his man. And the Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them. And Ben-hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with horsemen.
21 Salió el rey de Israel y tomó los caballos y los carros de guerra, e hizo una gran destrucción entre los sirios.
And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and killed the Syrians with a great slaughter.
22 Entonces el profeta se acercó al rey de Israel y le dijo: Ahora, hazte fuerte y cuida lo que haces, o dentro de un año, el rey de Siria volverá contra ti.
And the prophet came near to the king of Israel, and said to him, Go, strengthen thyself. And mark, and see what thou do, for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.
23 Entonces los siervos del rey de Siria les dijo: Su dios es un dios de los montes; es por eso que eran más fuertes que nosotros: pero si los atacamos en las tierras bajas, ciertamente seremos más fuertes que ellos.
And the servants of the king of Syria said to him, Their god is a god of the hills, therefore they were stronger than we. But let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.
24 Esto es lo que tienes que hacer: quitar a los reyes de sus posiciones y poner a los capitanes en sus lugares;
And do this thing: Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their place.
25 Y reúne otro ejército como el que vino a la destrucción, caballo por caballo y carruaje por carruaje; y hagamos la guerra contra ellos en las tierras bajas, y ciertamente seremos más fuertes que ellos. Y él escuchó lo que decían, y así lo hizo.
And number thee an army, like the army that thou have lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot. And we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkened to their voice, and did so.
26 Entonces, un año después, Ben-adad reunió a los sirios y fue a Afec para hacer la guerra a Israel.
And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Ben-hadad mustered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek to fight against Israel.
27 Y se juntaron los hijos de Israel, y se preparó las provisiones, y fueron contra ellos; todos los hijos de Israel eran como dos pequeños rebaños de cabras delante de ellos, porque todo el país estaba lleno de sirios.
And the sons of Israel were mustered, and were supported, and went against them. And the sons of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of kids, but the Syrians filled the country.
28 Entonces un hombre de Dios se acercó y dijo al rey de Israel: El Señor dice: Porque los sirios han dicho: el Señor es un dios de los montes y no de los valles; Pondré todo este gran ejército en tus manos, y verás que yo soy el Señor.
And a man of God came near and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, Thus says Jehovah, Because the Syrians have said, Jehovah is a god of the hills, but he is not a god of the valleys, therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into thy hand, and ye shall know that I am Jehovah.
29 Ahora, los dos ejércitos mantuvieron sus posiciones uno frente al otro durante siete días. Y en el séptimo día se inició la lucha; y los hijos de Israel pusieron a la espada cien mil soldados sirios en un día.
And they encamped one opposite the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined. And the sons of Israel killed of the Syrians a hundred thousand footmen in one day.
30 Pero el resto fue en vuelo a Afec, al pueblo, donde se derrumbó un muro sobre los veintisiete mil que aún vivían. Y Ben-adad se fue en vuelo a la ciudad, a una habitación interior.
But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city, and the wall fell upon twenty-seven thousand men who were left. And Ben-hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.
31 Entonces sus siervos le dijeron: Se dice que los reyes de Israel están llenos de misericordia; luego nos pondremos ropas ásperas en los lomos y cuerdas sobre nuestras cabezas, e iremos al rey de Israel; Puede ser que él perdone tu vida.
And his servants said to him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings. Let us, we pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel. Perhaps he will save thy life.
32 Entonces se pusieron ropas ásperas en los lomos y una cuerda en la cabeza, y se acercaron al rey de Israel y le dijeron: Tu siervo Ben-adad dice: Déjame ahora que guarde mi vida. Y él dijo: ¿Vive todavía? él es mi hermano.
So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben-hadad says, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? He is my brother.
33 Entonces los hombres lo tomaron como una señal, y rápidamente tomaron sus palabras; Y dijeron: Ben-adad es tu hermano. Entonces él dijo: Ve y tráelo. Entonces Ben-adad salió y lo hizo subir a su carruaje.
Now the men observed diligently whether anything would come from him. And they quickly caught it, and they said, Thy brother Ben-hadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Ben-hadad came forth to him, and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
34 Y Ben-adad le dijo: Los pueblos que mi padre tomó de tu padre te devolveré; y puedes hacer calles para ti en Damasco como lo hizo mi padre en Samaria. Y en cuanto a mí, al precio de este acuerdo me dejarás ir. Así que hizo un acuerdo con él y lo dejó ir.
And Ben-hadad said to him, The cities which my father took from thy father I will restore, and thou shall make streets for thee in Damascus as my father made in Samaria. And I, said Ahab, will let thee go with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and let him go.
35 Y un hombre de los hijos de los profetas dijo a su prójimo por la palabra del Señor: Dame una herida. Pero el hombre no lo hizo.
And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said by the word of Jehovah to his fellow, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.
36 Entonces él le dijo: Porque no has escuchado la voz del Señor, enseguida, cuando te hayas ido, un león te matará. Y cuando se fue, enseguida un león vino corriendo hacia él y lo mató.
Then said he to him, Because thou have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah, behold, as soon as thou are departed from me, a lion shall kill thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and killed him.
37 Entonces se encontró con otro hombre y dijo: Dame una herida. Y el hombre le dio un golpe hiriéndolo.
Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, smiting and wounding him.
38 Entonces el profeta se fue y, cubriéndose los ojos con él vendaje para la cabeza, se cubrió el rostro y se sentó junto a la carretera, esperando al rey.
So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with his headband over his eyes.
39 Cuando el rey pasó, clamándole, dijo: Tu siervo salió a pelear; y un hombre se me acercó con otro hombre y me dijo: retén a este hombre: si por casualidad se escapa, tu vida será el precio de su vida, o tendrás que dar un talento de plata como pago.
And as the king passed by, he cried out to the king, and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle, and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man to me, and said, Keep this man. If by any means he is missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shall pay a talent of silver.
40 Pero mientras tu siervo giraba en esta dirección, él se había ido. Entonces el rey de Israel le dijo: Tú eres responsable; Has tomado la decisión contra ti mismo.
And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said to him, So shall thy judgment be, thyself have decided it.
41 Luego, rápidamente se quitó el vendaje de los ojos; y el rey de Israel vio que él era uno de los profetas.
And he hastened, and took the headband away from his eyes, and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets.
42 Y él le dijo: Estas son las palabras del Señor: Porque has soltado de tus manos al hombre que yo había maldecido, tu vida será quitada por su vida y tu pueblo por su pueblo.
And he said to him, Thus says Jehovah, Because thou have let go out of thy hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.
43 Entonces el rey de Israel regresó a su casa, amargado y enojado, y fue a Samaria.
And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
