1 Reyes 17
1 Entonces Elías, de Tisbé en Galaad, dijo a Acab: Por el Señor vivo, el Dios de Israel, de quien soy siervo, no habrá rocío ni lluvia en estos años, sino sólo mi palabra.
Then said Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gil'ad, unto Achab, As the Lord the God of Israel liveth, before whom I have stood, there shall not be in these years dew or rain, except according to my word.
2 Entonces vino a él la palabra deL Señor, diciendo:
And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
3 Vete de aquí en dirección al este y escóndete en un lugar secreto junto al arroyo Querit, al este de Jordania.
Go away from here, and turn thyself eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Kerith, which is to the east of the Jordan.
4 El agua del arroyo será tu bebida, y por mis órdenes los cuervos te darán alimento allí.
And it shall be, that out of the brook shalt thou drink; and the ravens have I ordained to sustain thee there.
5 Entonces él fue e hizo lo que el Señor dijo, viviendo a la corriente de Querit, al este del Jordán.
And he went and did according to the word of the Lord; and he went and remained by the brook Kerith, that is to the east of the Jordan.
6 Y los cuervos le llevaban pan por la mañana y carne por la tarde; y el agua del arroyo era su bebida.
And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening: and out of the brook he used to drink.
7 Después de un tiempo, el arroyo se secó, porque no había lluvia en la tierra.
And it came to pass after a while that the brook dried up; because there had been no rain in the land.
8 Entonces vino a él la palabra deL Señor, diciendo:
And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
9 ¡Arriba! Ve ahora a Sarepta, en Zidon, y haz allí tu morada; Le he dado órdenes a una viuda para que te dé de comer.
Arise, go unto Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and remain there: behold, I have ordained there a widow-woman to sustain thee.
10 Entonces se levantó y fue a Sarepta. y cuando llegó a la puerta de la ciudad, vio a una mujer viuda juntando palos; y gritándole a ella, dijo: ¿Me darás un poco de agua en un recipiente para mi bebida?
So he arose and went to Zarephath; and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, there was there a widow-woman gathering sticks of wood: and he called her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11 Y cuando ella iba a conseguirlo, él le dijo: Y tráeme un poco de pan.
And as she went to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thy hand.
12 Entonces ella dijo: Por la vida del Señor tu Dios, no tengo más que un puñado de harina en una tinaja, y una gota de aceite en la jarra; y ahora estoy juntando dos palos para que pueda entrar y prepararme para mi hijo y para que podamos comer antes de nuestra muerte.
And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have nothing baked, but a handful of meal in a jar, and a little oil in a cruise: and, behold, I am gathering a couple of sticks, that I may go in and prepare it for me and my son; and when we have eaten it, we shall have to die.
13 Entonces Elías le dijo: No temas; Ve y haz lo que has dicho, pero primero hazme una pequeña torta y tráemela, y luego haz algo para ti y para tu hijo.
And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said; but make me thereof a little cake at first, and bring it out unto me, and for thee and for thy son shalt thou prepare [something] afterward.
14 Porque esta es la palabra del Señor, el Dios de Israel: el almacén de la harina no llegará a su fin, y la jarra nunca estará sin aceite, hasta el día en que el Señor envíe la lluvia sobre la tierra.
For thus hath said the Lord the God of Israel, The jar of meal shall not fail, neither shall the cruise of oil diminish, until the day that the Lord giveth rain upon the face of the earth.
15 Entonces ella fue e hizo lo que Elías dijo; y ella, él y su familia tuvieron comida durante mucho tiempo.
And she went and did according to the word of Elijah: and she, and he, and her household, did eat [many] days.
16 El almacén de la harina no llegó a su fin, y la jarra nunca estuvo sin aceite, como el Señor había dicho por boca de Elías.
The jar of meal failed not, nor did the cruise of oil diminish, according to the word of the Lord, which he had spoken through means of Elijah.
17 Después de esto, el hijo de la mujer de la casa enfermó, tan enfermo que no hubo aliento en él.
And it came to pass after these events, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness became very severe, until that at length there was no breath left in him.
18 Y ella le dijo a Elías: ¿Qué tengo que ver contigo, oh hombre de Dios? ¿Has venido para recordar a Dios mi pecado y para matar a mi hijo?
And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O man of God? thou art come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son!
19 Y él le dijo: Dame tu hijo. Y tomándolo de sus brazos, lo llevó a su habitación y lo puso en su cama.
And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into the upper chamber, in which he abode, and he laid him upon his own bed.
20 Y clamando al Señor, dijo: Oh Señor mi Dios, ¿enviaste mal, incluso a la viuda de quien soy huésped, al causar la muerte de su hijo?
And he called unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?
21 Y estirándose sobre el niño tres veces, hizo su oración al Señor, diciendo: Señor, Dios mío, deja que él alma de este niño vuelva a él.
And he stretched himself out over the child three times, and called unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, let, I pray thee, the soul of this child return again within him.
22 Y Él Señor escuchó la voz de Elías, y el alma del niño volvió a él, y volvió a la vida.
And the Lord listened to the voice of Elijah: and the soul of the child returned into him, and he revived.
23 Entonces Elías llevó al niño de su habitación a la casa, se lo dio a su madre y le dijo: Mira, tu hijo está vivo.
And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the upper chamber into the house, and gave him unto his mother; and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
24 Entonces la mujer dijo a Elías: Ahora estoy seguro de que eres un hombre de Dios y que la palabra del Señor en tu boca es verdadera.
And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this do I know, that thou art a man of God, and the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.
