1 Corintios 14

1 Ve después del amor; ambicionen los dones del Espíritu, pero más que todo, que puedan tener el poder del profeta.

Pursue love, and desire the spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.

2 Porque el que habla lenguas no habla a los hombres, sino a Dios; porque nadie entiende lo que está diciendo; pero en el Espíritu él está hablando misterios.

Because he who speaks in a ‘language’ is not speaking to people but to God, since no one understands; in spirit he speaks mysteries.

3 Pero la palabra del profeta les da a los hombres conocimiento, exhorta, consuelo y fortalece.

But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to people.

4 El que hace uso de lenguas se edifica a sí mismo; pero el que da la palabra del profeta edifica a la iglesia.

The one speaking in a ‘language’ edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the congregation.

5 Ahora bien, aunque es mi deseo que todos ustedes hablen en lenguas, pero más que profeticen; porque mayor es el que profetiza que él que habla en lenguas, a no ser que las interprete para que la iglesia reciba edificación.

I could wish that you all spoke in ‘languages’, but even more that you might prophesy; because the one prophesying is greater than the one speaking in ‘languages’ (unless he interprets), so that the congregation may receive edification.

6 Pero, ahora, hermanos míos, si vengo a ustedes hablando en lenguas, ¿qué provecho obtendrán si no les doy una revelación, un conocimiento o la palabra del profeta o la enseñanza?

Now then, brothers, what good will I do you if I come to you speaking in ‘languages’ instead of addressing you with revelation, or with knowledge, or with prophecy, or with teaching?

7 Incluso las cosas sin vida, tener una voz, como una pipa de música o un arpa, si no emiten sonidos diferentes, ¿quién puede estar seguro de qué se está reproduciendo?

Take lifeless things like a flute or a harp; if they make no distinction in the notes when they produce sound, how will it be known what is being piped or harped?

8 Porque si el cuerno de guerra da una nota incierta, ¿quién se preparará para la pelea?

Also a trumpet; if it gives an indistinct sound, who will prepare for battle?

9 Entonces, si tú, al usar una lengua extraña, dices palabras que no tienen sentido, ¿cómo entenderá alguien lo que estás diciendo? porque estarás hablando al aire.

So it is with you: if you do not deliver an intelligible message with the ‘language’, how will it be known what is being said? You will just be speaking into the air.

10 Puede haber una cantidad de voces diferentes en el mundo, y ninguna voz carece de sentido.

There are probably a great many kinds of sounds in the world, and none of them is without significance.

11 Pero si el sentido de la voz no es claro para mí, soy como un hombre de un país extraño para él que está hablando, y él será el mismo para mí.

But if I do not know the force of the sound, I will be a foreigner to the speaker, and he will be a foreigner to me.

12 Así que si deseas los dones que el Espíritu da, procuren tener en abundancia aquellos que ayudan a crecer a la iglesia.

And you too: since you are zealous for spiritual things, aim at the edification of the congregation, that you may all grow.

13 Por esta razón, el hombre que tiene el poder de usar lenguas pida en oración que pueda interpretarlas.

Therefore the one speaking in a ‘language’ should pray that he may interpret.

14 Porque si hago uso de lenguas en mis oraciones, mi espíritu hace la oración, pero mi entendimiento queda sin fruto.

For if I pray in a ‘language’, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.

15 ¿Entonces qué? que mi oración sea con él espíritu, e igualmente con mi entendimiento; cantaré en él espíritu, e igualmente con él entendimiento.

So what then? I will pray with the spirit, but I will also pray with the mind; I will sing with the spirit, but I will also sing with the mind.

16 Porque si das una bendición con el espíritu, ¿cómo dirá el hombre que no entiende, que así sea, después de tu oración, viendo que no ha entendido lo que estás diciendo?

Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the outsider say the “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not know what you are saying?

17 Porque tu bendición es ciertamente bien hecha, pero sin provecho para el hombre sin entendimiento.

You, of course, give thanks quite well, but the other is not edified.

18 Doy gracias a Dios de que puedo hablar en lenguas más que todos ustedes:

I thank my God speaking in ‘languages’ more than you all,

19 Pero en la iglesia sería mejor para mí hacer uso de cinco palabras cuyo sentido era claro, para instruir a los demás, que diez mil palabras en una lengua extraña que nadie entiende.

but in the congregation I would rather speak five words with my understanding, precisely so as to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a ‘language’.

20 Hermanos míos, no sean niños en el modo de pensar: pero en el mal sean inocente como niños, pero maduros en la forma de pensar.

Brothers, stop thinking like children—well, in malice be ‘infants’, but in thinking be adults.

21 En la ley se dice: Por los hombres de otras lenguas y con labios extraños vendrán mis palabras a este pueblo; y ni aun así me escucharán, dice el Señor.

In the law it stands written: “I will speak to this people in foreign languages and with different ‘lips’, but not even then will they listen to me,” says the Lord.

22 Por tanto, las lenguas son por señal, no a los que tienen fe, sino a los que no tienen; pero la palabra del profeta es para los que tienen fe, y no para los que no tienen fe.

Therefore the ‘languages’ are for a sign, not to believers but to unbelievers; while prophesying is not for unbelievers but for believers.

23 Si, entonces, la iglesia se ha unido, y todos están usando lenguas, y entran hombres sin conocimiento o fe, ¿no dirán que están desequilibrados?

So if the whole congregation comes together and all are speaking in ‘languages’, but outsiders or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are raving?

24 Pero si todos enseñan como profetas, y entra un hombre sin fe o conocimiento, se convencerá de su pecado, y él mismo se examinará al oír lo que todos están diciendo.

But if everyone is prophesying, and an unbeliever or outsider comes in, he is reproved by all, he is examined by all.

25 Los secretos de su corazón están claros; y él se postrará en su rostro y adorará a Dios, diciendo que Dios está verdaderamente entre ustedes.

And thus the secrets of his heart are exposed, and so, falling on his face he will worship God, affirming, “Truly God is among you!”

26 ¿Qué es entonces, mis hermanos? cuando ustedes se reúnan, unos pueden cantar un salmo, otros pueden enseñar, una revelación o una lengua e interpretarla. Pero que todo se haga para crecimiento espiritual.

So what goes on, brothers? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a ‘language’, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.

27 Si alguno hace uso de las lenguas, no sea más de dos, o como mucho tres, y sucesivamente; y por turno; además debe interpretar esas lenguas.

If anyone speaks in a ‘language’, let it be two—at the most three—and in turn, and let one interpret.

28 Pero si no hay Nadie que las interprete, que se quede callado en la iglesia; y que sus palabras sean para él y para Dios.

But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church; let him speak to himself and to God.

29 Y los profetas dan sus palabras, pero no más de dos o tres, y que los demás sean jueces de lo que dicen.

Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others evaluate.

30 Pero si se da una revelación a otro que está sentado cerca, que el primero permanezca en silencio.

But if another who is sitting by receives a revelation, the first should stop speaking.

31 Porque todos ustedes pueden profetizar uno por uno para que todos puedan obtener conocimiento y consuelo;

For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be encouraged.

32 Y los espíritus de los profetas son controlados por los profetas;

Yes, spirits of prophets are subordinate to prophets.

33 Porque Dios no es un Dios de confusión, sino un Dios de paz; como en todas las iglesias de los santos.

Further, God is not a God of disorder but of peace. As in all the congregations of the saints,

34 Que las mujeres guarden silencio en las iglesias, porque no es correcto que estén hablando; sino que estén sujetas, como dice la ley.

your wives should keep silent in the assemblies, for they are not permitted to speak, but to be in subordination, as the law also says.

35 Y si tienen un deseo de conocer algo, que formulen preguntas a sus maridos en privado: porque es indecoroso que una mujer hable en la iglesia.

If they want to learn about something, let them ask their own husbands at home, for it is shameful for women to speak in church.

36 ¿Qué? ¿de ustedes salió la palabra de Dios? ¿o solo a ustedes les ha llegado?

Or was it from you that the Word of God went forth? Or was it only to you that it came?

37 Si alguno parece ser un profeta o tiene el Espíritu, que reconozca que esto que les escribo, son mandamientos del Señor.

If anyone thinks that he is a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things I write to you are the Lord's commands.

38 Pero si alguno es ignorante, lo dejaremos en su ignorancia.

But if anyone is ignorant, let him remain so.

39 Entonces, hermanos míos, que sea su principal deseo de ser profetas; y no prohiban hablar en lenguas.

So then, brothers, seek to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in ‘languages’.

40 Que todo se haga de la manera correcta y ordenada.

Let all things be done properly and in order.
