Proverbios 26
1 Como la nieve en el verano, y la lluvia en la siega, así conviene al loco la honra.
As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, So honor is not becoming to a fool.
2 Como el gorrión en su vagar, y como la golondrina en su vuelo, así la maldición sin causa nunca vendrá.
As the sparrow wandereth, and the swallow flieth away, So the curse without cause shall not come.
3 El látigo para el caballo, y el cabestro para el asno, y la vara para el cuerpo del loco.
A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, And a rod for the back of the fool.
4 Nunca respondas al loco en conformidad a su locura, para que no seas tú también como él.
Answer not a fool according to his folly, Lest thou also become like to him.
5 Responde al loco mostrándole su locura, para que no se estime sabio en su opinión.
Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own conceit.
6 El que da un cargo al que no tiene facultad para ejercitarlo, es el que envía algo por mano del loco; y beberá el daño.
He cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage, Who sendeth a message by the hand of a fool.
7 Así como camina el cojo; es el proverbio en la boca del loco.
The legs of a lame man hang loose; So is it with a proverb in the mouth of fools.
8 Como quien liga la piedra en la honda, así es el que da honra al loco.
As he who bindeth a stone in a sling, So is he that giveth honor to a fool.
9 Espinas hincadas en mano del embriagado, tal es el proverbio en la boca de los locos.
As a thorn lifted up by the hand of a drunkard, So is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
10 El gran Dios cría todas las cosas; y al loco da la paga, y a los transgresores da el salario.
As an archer who woundeth every one, So is he who hireth fools and hireth wayfarers.
11 Como perro que vuelve a su vómito, así el loco que repite su locura.
As a dog returneth to that which he hath vomited, So a fool repeateth his folly.
12 ¿Has visto hombre sabio en su propia opinión? Más esperanza hay del loco que de él.
Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him.
13 Dice el perezoso: El león está en el camino; el león está en las calles.
The slothful man saith, “There is a lion in the way; There is a lion in the streets.”
14 Las puertas se revuelven en sus quicios; así el perezoso en su cama.
As a door turneth upon its hinges, So doth the sluggard upon his bed.
15 Esconde el perezoso su mano en el seno; se cansa de volverla a su boca.
The sluggard dippeth his hand into the dish; It grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
16 Más sabio es el perezoso en su propia opinión que siete que le den consejo.
The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit Than seven men who can render a reason.
17 El que pasando se deja llevar de la ira en pleito ajeno, es como el que toma al perro por las orejas.
As one that taketh a dog by the ears, So is he who, passing by, is enraged on account of the quarrel of another.
18 Como el que enloquece, y echa llamas, y saetas, y muerte,
As a madman That casteth about darts, arrows, and death,
19 tal es el hombre que daña a su amigo, y dice: Ciertamente lo hice por broma.
So is the man who deceiveth his neighbor, And saith, “Was I not in sport?”
20 Sin leña se apaga el fuego; y donde no hay chismoso, cesa la contienda.
Where there is no wood, the fire goeth out; So, where there is no talebearer, contention ceaseth.
21 El carbón para brasas, y la leña para el fuego; y el hombre rencilloso para encender contienda.
As coal is for heat, and as wood for fire, So is a contentious man for kindling strife.
22 Las palabras del chismoso parecen blandas; mas ellas entran hasta lo secreto del vientre.
The words of a talebearer are like dainties; For they go down to the innermost parts of the body.
23 Como escoria de plata echada sobre el tiesto, son los labios enardecidos y el corazón malo.
As drossy silver spread over an earthen vessel, So are warm lips and an evil heart.
24 El que odia disimula con sus labios; mas en su interior maquina engaño.
The hater dissembleth with his lips, And layeth up deceit within him.
25 Cuando hablare amigablemente, no le creas; porque siete abominaciones hay en su corazón.
When he speaketh fair, believe him not! For there are seven abominations in his heart.
26 Aunque su odio se encubre en el desierto; su malicia será descubierta en la congregación.
His hatred is covered by deceit; His wickedness shall be revealed in the great assembly.
27 El que cavare sima, caerá en ella; y el que revuelva la piedra, a él volverá.
He that diggeth a pit shall fall therein; And he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.
28 La falsa lengua aborrece al que atormenta; y la boca lisonjera hace resbaladero.
A lying tongue hateth those whom it woundeth, And a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
