San Mateo 23
1 Entonces habló Jesús a la multitud y a sus discípulos,
Then spake Jesus to the people and to his disciples, saying,
2 diciendo: Sobre la cátedra de Moisés se sentaron los escribas y los fariseos.
The scribes and pharisees sit in the seat of Moses:
3 Así que, todo lo que os dijeren que guardéis, guardadlo y hacedlo; mas no hagáis conforme a sus obras; porque dicen, y no la hacen.
observe therefore and do all things whatsoever they tell you to observe; but do not ye according to their works, for they say and do not:
4 Porque atan cargas pesadas y difíciles de llevar, y las ponen sobre los hombros de los hombres; mas ni aun con su dedo las quieren mover.
for they bind grievous and intolerable burthens, and impose them upon men; but they themselves will not put a finger to them:
5 Antes, todas sus obras hacen para ser mirados de los hombres; porque ensanchan sus filacterias, y extienden los flecos de sus mantos;
but they do all their works to be seen by men; they make their phylacteries broad, and enlarge the fringes of their garments,
6 y aman el primer lugar en las cenas, y las primeras sillas en las sinagogas;
and love the uppermost places at feasts,
7 y las salutaciones en las plazas, y ser llamados por los hombres Rabí, Rabí.
and the chief seats in the synagogues, and salutations in public assemblies, and to be called by men Rabbi, Rabbi.
8 Mas vosotros, no queráis ser llamados Rabí; porque uno es vuestro Maestro, el Cristo; y todos vosotros sois hermanos.
But be not ye called Rabbi; for one is your instructor even Christ, and ye are all brethren.
9 Y vuestro padre no llaméis a nadie en la tierra; porque uno es vuestro Padre, el cual está en los cielos.
Neither call any man upon earth Father; for one is your Father, who is in heaven:
10 Ni seáis llamados maestros; porque uno es vuestro Maestro, el Cristo.
neither be ye called masters; for one is your master, even Christ.
11 El que es el mayor de vosotros, sea vuestro siervo.
But let him that is greatest among you be your minister: and whosoever will exalt himself shall be abased,
12 Porque el que se ensalzare, será humillado; y el que se humillare, será ensalzado.
and whosoever will humble himself shall be exalted.
13 Mas ¡ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque cerráis el Reino de los cielos delante de los hombres; que ni vosotros entráis, ni a los que están entrando dejáis entrar.
But wo unto you scribes and pharisees, hypocrites, who shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, nor suffer those that are entering to go in.
14 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque coméis las casas de las viudas, y por pretexto hacéis larga oración; por esto llevaréis mas grave juicio.
Wo unto you scribes and pharisees, hypocrites; for ye devour widows houses, and for a cover make long prayers: therefore ye shall receive the heavier judgement.
15 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque rodeáis el mar y la tierra por hacer un prosélito; y cuando fuere hecho, le hacéis hijo del quemadero dos veces más que vosotros. (Geenna g1067)
Wo unto you scribes and pharisees, hypocrites: for ye compass sea and land to make a proselyte, and when he is gained, ye make him more the child of hell than yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
16 ¡Ay de vosotros, guías ciegos! Que decís: Cualquiera que jurare por el Templo es nada; mas cualquiera que jurare por el oro del Templo, deudor es.
Wo unto you, ye blind guides, who say, If any one swear by the temple, it is nothing;
17 ¡Insensatos y ciegos! Porque ¿cuál es mayor, el oro, o el Templo que santifica al oro?
but if any man swear by the gold of the temple, the oath is binding. Foolish and blind creatures! for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
18 Y: Cualquiera que jurare por el altar, es nada; mas cualquiera que jurare por el presente que está sobre él, deudor es.
And, If any one swear by the altar, it is nothing; but if any one swear by the gift upon it, he is bound.
19 ¡Insensatos y ciegos! Porque, ¿cuál es mayor, el presente, o el altar que santifica al presente?
O foolish and blind! for which is greater, the gift, or the altar which sanctifieth the gift?
20 Pues el que jurare por el altar, jura por él, y por todo lo que está sobre él;
He then, that sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it and by all things upon it:
21 y el que jurare por el Templo, jura por él, y por Aquel que habita en él;
and he, that sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it, and by Him that dwelleth in it:
22 y el que jura por el cielo, jura por el trono de Dios, y por Aquel que está sentado sobre él.
and he, that sweareth by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by Him that sitteth upon it.
23 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque diezmáis la menta y el eneldo y el comino, y dejasteis lo que es lo más importante de la ley: el juicio y la misericordia y la fe; esto era necesario hacer, y no dejar lo otro.
Wo unto you scribes and pharisees, hypocrites, who tithe even your mint, and anise, and cummin, but neglect the weightier matters of the law, judgement, mercy, and fidelity: these ye ought undoubtedly to practise, and not to omit the others.
24 ¡Guías ciegos, que coláis el mosquito, mas tragáis el camello!
Blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!
25 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque limpiáis lo que está de fuera del vaso o del plato; mas por dentro están llenos de robo y de incontinencia.
Wo unto you scribes and pharisees, hypocrites; for ye clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but within they are full of rapine and intemperance:
26 ¡Fariseo ciego, limpia primero lo de dentro del vaso y del plato, para que también lo de fuera se haga limpio!
thou blind pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup and of the dish, that the outside of them may be also clean.
27 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque sois semejantes a sepulcros blanqueados, que por fuera, a la verdad, se muestran hermosos, mas por dentro están llenos de huesos de muertos y de toda suciedad.
Wo unto you scribes and pharisees, hypocrites; who are like whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful without, but within are full of the bones of the dead, and all manner of filthiness;
28 Así también vosotros por fuera, a la verdad, os mostráis justos a los hombres; mas por dentro, llenos estáis de hipocresía e iniquidad.
so do ye likewise outwardly appear to men to be righteous, but within are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque edificáis los sepulcros de los profetas, y adornáis los monumentos de los justos,
Wo unto you scribes and pharisees, hypocrites; who build the tombs of the prophets, and adorn the monuments of the just,
30 y decís: Si estuviéramos en los días de nuestros padres, no hubiéramos sido sus compañeros en la sangre de los profetas.
and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been concerned with them in shedding the blood of the prophets:
31 Así que, testimonio dais a vosotros mismos, que sois hijos de aquellos que mataron a los profetas.
so that ye are witnesses yourselves, that ye are the children of those who killed the prophets:
32 ¡Vosotros también llenad la medida de vuestros padres!
fill up then the measure of your fathers, ye serpents, ye brood of vipers:
how can ye escape the damnation of hell? (Geenna g1067)
34 Por tanto, he aquí, yo envío a vosotros profetas, y sabios, y escribas; y de ellos, a unos mataréis y colgaréis de un madero, y a otros de ellos azotaréis en vuestras sinagogas, y perseguiréis de ciudad en ciudad.
For behold I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
35 Para que venga sobre vosotros toda la sangre justa que se ha derramado sobre la tierra, desde la sangre de Abel el justo, hasta la sangre de Zacarías, hijo de Berequías, al cual matasteis entre el Templo y el altar.
that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel, to the blood of Zacharias the son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
36 De cierto os digo que todo esto vendrá sobre esta generación.
Verily I tell you, all these things shall come upon this generation.
37 ¡Jerusalén, Jerusalén, que matas a los profetas, y apedreas a los que son enviados a ti! ¡Cuántas veces quise juntar tus hijos, como la gallina junta sus pollos debajo de las alas, y no quisiste!
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
38 He aquí vuestra Casa os es dejada desierta.
Behold your house shall be left you desolate:
39 Porque os digo que desde ahora no me veréis, hasta que digáis: Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor.
for I tell you, ye shall not see me after this, till ye shall say, Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.
