Marcos 4
1 Otra vez comenzó a enseñar junto al mar, y se juntó a él gran multitud; tanto, que entrándose él en un barco, se sentó en el mar; y toda la multitud estaba en tierra junto al mar.
Jesus began teaching beside the Sea again. So many people came to listen to him that he climbed into a boat and sat in it on the water while the crowd listened from the shore.
2 Y les enseñaba por parábolas muchas cosas, y les decía en su doctrina:
He illustrated his teachings using many stories.
3 Oíd: He aquí, el sembrador salió a sembrar.
“Listen,” he said. “A sower went out to sow.
4 Y aconteció sembrando, que una parte cayó junto al camino; y vinieron las aves del cielo, y la tragaron.
Now as he was scattering the seeds, some fell on the path, and birds came and ate them up.
5 Otra parte cayó en pedregales, donde no tenía mucha tierra; y luego salió, porque no tenía la tierra profunda;
Other seeds fell on stony ground where there wasn't much earth. In the shallow soil the plants started growing quickly, but because the soil wasn't deep
6 mas salido el sol, se quemó; y por cuanto no tenía raíz, se secó.
they were scorched when the sun came up. Since they didn't have any real roots, they soon withered.
7 Otra parte cayó en espinas; y subieron las espinas, y la ahogaron, y no dio fruto.
Other seeds fell among thorns. The thorns grew up and choked the sprouting seeds, so they produced nothing.
8 Otra parte cayó en buena tierra, y dio fruto, que subió y creció; y llevó uno a treinta, y otro a sesenta, y otro a ciento.
Other seeds fell on good soil where they sprouted and grew. They produced a harvest of some thirty, some sixty, and some a hundred times what was planted.
9 Entonces les dijo: El que tiene oídos para oír, oiga.
If you have ears to hear, listen to what I'm saying.”
10 Cuando estuvo solo, le preguntaron los que estaban cerca de él con los doce, sobre la parábola.
When he was by himself, his twelve disciples and the others who were with him asked him what the illustrations meant.
11 Y les dijo: A vosotros es dado saber el misterio del Reino de Dios; mas a los que están fuera, por parábolas todas las cosas;
He told them, “The mystery of God's kingdom has been given to you to understand. But outsiders only have the stories,
12 para que viendo, vean y no perciben; y oyendo, oigan y no entiendan; para que no se conviertan, y les sean perdonados los pecados.
so that even though they see, they don't really ‘see,’ and even though they hear, they don't understand, otherwise they might turn to me and be forgiven.”
13 Y les dijo: ¿No sabéis esta parábola? ¿Cómo, pues, entenderéis todas las parábolas?
“Don't you understand this story?” Jesus asked them. “If you can't, how are you going to understand all the other stories?
14 El sembrador es el que siembra la Palabra.
The sower sows the word.
15 Y éstos son los de junto al camino; en los que la Palabra es sembrada; mas después que la oyeron, luego viene Satanás, y quita la Palabra que fue sembrada en sus corazones.
The seeds on the path where the word is sown illustrate those who hear the message, but then Satan immediately comes along and takes away the word that's been sown in them.
16 Y asimismo éstos son los que son sembrados en pedregales: los que cuando han oído la Palabra, luego la toman con gozo;
Likewise the seeds on the rocky ground illustrate those who hear the word, and happily accept it right away.
17 pero no tienen raíz en sí, antes son temporales, que levantándose la tribulación o la persecución por causa de la Palabra, luego se escandalizan.
But since they have no real roots, they only last for a while until trouble or persecution comes, and then they quickly fall away.
18 Y éstos son los que son sembrados entre espinas: los que oyen la palabra;
Those sown among the thorns illustrate those who hear the word,
19 pero los cuidados de este siglo, y el engaño de las riquezas, y las codicias que hay en las otras cosas, entrando, ahogan la Palabra, y es hecha sin fruto. (aiōn g165)
but worries of this world, the temptation of wealth, and other distractions choke the growth of the word, and it becomes unproductive. (aiōn g165)
20 Y éstos son los que fueron sembrados en buena tierra: los que oyen la Palabra, y la reciben, y hacen fruto, uno a treinta, otro a sesenta, y otro a ciento.
But the seeds sown on good soil illustrate those who hear the word, accept it, and are productive—producing thirty, sixty, and hundred times what was originally sown.
21 También les dijo: ¿Viene la lámpara para ser puesto debajo del almud, o debajo de la cama? ¿No viene para ser puesto en el candelero?
Who puts a lamp under a bucket, or beneath a bed?” Jesus asked them. “No, you put a lamp up on a lamp-stand.
22 Porque no hay nada oculto que no haya de ser manifestado, ni secreto que no haya de venir en descubierto.
Everything that is hidden will be revealed, and everything that is secret will be brought out into the open.
23 Si alguno tiene oídos para oír, oiga.
If you have ears to hear, listen to what I'm saying!
24 Les dijo también: Mirad lo que oís: con la medida que medís, os medirán otros, y será añadido a vosotros los que oís.
Pay attention to what you're hearing,” he told them, “for you will be given according to how much you want to receive, measure for measure.
25 Porque al que tiene, le será dado; y al que no tiene, aun lo que tiene le será quitado.
More will be given to those who already have understanding, but those who don't want to know will have what little understanding they have taken from them.
26 Decía además: Así es el Reino de Dios, como si un hombre echa simiente en la tierra;
God's kingdom is like a man sowing seed in the ground,” Jesus said.
27 y duerme, y se levanta de noche y de día, y la simiente brota y crece como él no sabe.
“He goes to bed and gets up, day after day, but the man has no knowledge of how the seeds sprout and grow.
28 Porque de suyo fructifica la tierra, primero hierba, luego espiga, después grano lleno en la espiga;
The earth produces a harvest by itself. First a shoot appears, then the heads of grain, and then the heads of grain ripen.
29 y cuando el fruto fuere producido, luego se mete la hoz, porque la siega es llegada.
When the grain is ripe, the farmer reaps it with a sickle, because the harvest is ready.
30 También decía: ¿A qué haremos semejante el Reino de Dios? ¿O con qué parábola le compararemos?
What can we compare God's kingdom to? What illustration shall we use?” he asked.
31 Es como el grano de mostaza, que cuando se siembra en tierra, es la más pequeña de todas las simientes que hay en la tierra;
“It's like a mustard seed, the tiniest seed of all.
32 mas después de sembrado, sube, y se hace la mayor de todas las legumbres, y echa grandes ramas, de tal manera que las aves del cielo puedan morar bajo su sombra.
But when it's sown it grows into a plant that's larger than other plants. It has branches big enough that birds can roost in its shade.”
33 Y con muchas parábolas como éstas les hablaba la Palabra, conforme a lo que podían oír.
Jesus used many of these illustrated stories when he spoke to the people so they would understand as much as they could.
34 Sin parábola no les hablaba; pero a sus discípulos en particular declaraba todo.
In fact, when he spoke publicly, he only used stories; however in private he explained everything to his disciples.
35 Y les dijo aquel día cuando fue tarde: Pasemos al otro lado.
Later that day, in the evening, he said to his disciples, “Let's go across to the other side of the Sea.”
36 Y enviando la multitud, le tomaron como estaba en el barco; y había también con él otros barquitos.
Leaving the crowd behind, the disciples went with Jesus and got into a boat. Other boats went with them.
37 Y se levantó una grande tempestad de viento, y echaba las olas en el barco, de tal manera que ya se llenaba.
Soon a terrible storm started blowing, and waves crashed against the boat, filling it with water.
38 El estaba en la popa, durmiendo sobre un cabezal, y le despertaron, y le dijeron: ¿Maestro, no tienes cuidado que perecemos?
Jesus was asleep in the stern, resting his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting at him, “Teacher, don't you care that we're about to drown?”
39 Y levantándose, increpó al viento, y dijo al mar: Calla, enmudece. Y cesó el viento, y fue hecha grande bonanza.
Jesus woke up. He told the wind to die down and told the waves, “Be quiet! Be still.” The wind stopped, and the water became completely calm.
40 Y a ellos dijo: ¿Por qué estáis así amedrentados? ¿Cómo no tenéis fe?
“Why are you so frightened? Haven't you learned to trust me?” he asked them.
41 Y temieron con gran temor, y decían el uno al otro. ¿Quién es éste, que aun el viento y el mar le obedecen?
They were stunned and terrified. They asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
