1 Alef: Yo soy un hombre que ve aflicción en la vara de su enojo.
I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.
2 Alef: Me guió y me llevó en tinieblas, mas no en luz.
He has led me and caused me to walk in darkness, and not in light.
3 Alef: Ciertamente contra mí volvió y revolvió su mano todo el día.
Surely he turns his hand against me again and again all day long.
4 Bet: Hizo envejecer mi carne y mi piel; quebrantó mis huesos.
He has made my flesh and my skin old. He has broken my bones.
5 Bet: Edificó contra mí, y me cercó de tósigo y de trabajo.
He has built against me, and surrounded me with bitterness and hardship.
6 Bet: Me asentó en oscuridades, como los muertos para siempre.
He has made me dwell in dark places, as those who have been long dead.
7 Guímel: Me cercó de seto, y no saldré; agravó mis grillos.
He has walled me about, so that I cannot go out. He has made my chain heavy.
8 Guímel: Aun cuando clamé y di voces, cerró mi oración.
Yes, when I cry, and call for help, he shuts out my prayer.
9 Guímel: Cercó de seto mis caminos a piedra tajada, torció mis senderos.
He has walled up my ways with cut stone. He has made my paths crooked.
10 Dálet: Oso que acecha fue para mí, como león en escondrijos.
He is to me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in hiding.
11 Dálet: Torció mis caminos, y me despedazó; me tornó asolado.
He has turned away my path, and pulled me in pieces. He has made me desolate.
12 Dálet: Su arco entesó, y me puso como blanco a la saeta.
He has bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.
13 He: Hizo entrar en mis riñones las saetas de su aljaba.
He has caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my kidneys.
14 He: Fui escarnio a todo mi pueblo, canción de ellos todos los días.
I have become a derision to all my people, and their song all day long.
15 He: Me llenó de amarguras, me embriagó de ajenjos.
He has filled me with bitterness. He has stuffed me with wormwood.
16 Vau: Me quebró los dientes con cascajo, me cubrió de ceniza.
He has also broken my teeth with gravel. He has covered me with ashes.
17 Vau: Y mi alma se alejó de la paz, me olvidé del bien.
You have removed my soul far away from peace. I forgot prosperity.
18 Vau: Y dije: Pereció mi fortaleza, y mi esperanza del SEÑOR.
I said, “My strength has perished, along with my expectation from the LORD.”
19 Zain: Acuérdate de mi aflicción y de mi lloro, del ajenjo y de la hiel.
Remember my affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the bitterness.
20 Zain: Lo tendrá aún en memoria mi alma, porque en mí está humillada.
My soul still remembers them, and is bowed down within me.
21 Zain: Esto reduciré a mi corazón, por tanto esperaré.
This I recall to my mind; therefore I have hope.
22 Chet: Es por las misericordias del SEÑOR que no somos consumidos, porque nunca decayeron sus misericordias.
It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his mercies do not fail.
23 Chet: Nuevas son cada mañana; grande es tu fe.
They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
24 Chet: Mi parte es el SEÑOR, dijo mi alma; por tanto a él esperaré.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul. “Therefore I will hope in him.”
25 Tet: Bueno es el SEÑOR a los que en él esperan, al alma que le buscare.
The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.
26 Tet: Bueno es esperar callando en la salud del SEÑOR.
It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
27 Tet: Bueno es al varón, si llevare el yugo desde su juventud.
It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.
28 Yod: Se sentará solo, y callará, porque lo llevó sobre sí.
Let him sit alone and keep silence, because he has laid it on him.
29 Yod: Pondrá su boca en el polvo, si por ventura habrá esperanza.
Let him put his mouth in the dust, if it is so that there may be hope.
30 Yod: Dará la mejilla al que le hiriere; se llenará de afrenta.
Let him give his cheek to him who strikes him. Let him be filled full of reproach.
31 Cof: Porque el Señor no desechará para siempre;
For the Lord will not cast off forever.
32 Cof: Antes si afligiere, también se compadecerá según la multitud de sus misericordias.
For though he causes grief, yet he will have compassion according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.
33 Cof: Porque no aflige ni acongoja de su corazón a los hijos de los hombres.
For he does not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.
34 Lámed: Para desmenuzar debajo de sus pies todos los encarcelados de la tierra,
To crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth,
35 Lámed: Para hacer apartar el derecho del hombre ante la presencia del Altísimo,
to turn away the right of a man before the face of the Most High,
36 Lámed: Para trastornar al hombre en su causa, el Señor no lo sabe.
to subvert a man in his cause, the Lord does not approve.
37 Mem: ¿Quién será aquel que diga, que vino algo que el Señor no mandó?
Who is he who says, and it comes to pass, when the Lord does not command it?
38 Mem: ¿De la boca del Altísimo no saldrá malo ni bueno?
Does not evil and good come out of the mouth of the Most High?
39 Mem: ¿Por qué tiene dolor el hombre viviente, el hombre en su pecado?
Why should a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?
40 Nun: Escudriñemos nuestros caminos, y busquemos, y volvámonos al SEÑOR.
Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.
41 Nun: Levantemos nuestros corazones con las manos a Dios en los cielos.
Let’s lift up our heart with our hands to God in the heavens.
42 Nun: Nosotros nos hemos rebelado, y fuimos desleales; por tanto tú no perdonaste.
“We have transgressed and have rebelled. You have not pardoned.
43 Sámec: Desplegaste la ira, y nos perseguiste; mataste, no perdonaste.
“You have covered us with anger and pursued us. You have killed. You have not pitied.
44 Sámec: Te cubriste de nube, para que no pasase la oración nuestra.
You have covered yourself with a cloud, so that no prayer can pass through.
45 Sámec: Raedura y abominación nos tornaste en medio de los pueblos.
You have made us an off-scouring and refuse in the middle of the peoples.
46 Pe: Todos nuestros enemigos abrieron sobre nosotros su boca.
“All our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.
47 Pe: Temor y lazo fue para nosotros, asolamiento y quebrantamiento.
Terror and the pit have come on us, devastation and destruction.”
48 Pe: Ríos de aguas echan mis ojos, por el quebrantamiento de la hija de mi pueblo.
My eye runs down with streams of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.
49 Ayin Mis ojos destilan, y no cesan, porque no hay alivio,
My eye pours down and does not cease, without any intermission,
50 Ayin Hasta que el SEÑOR mire y vea desde los cielos.
until the LORD looks down, and sees from heaven.
51 Ayin Mis ojos contristaron mi alma, por todas las hijas de mi ciudad.
My eye affects my soul, because of all the daughters of my city.
52 Tsade: Mis enemigos me dieron caza como a ave, sin razón.
They have chased me relentlessly like a bird, those who are my enemies without cause.
53 Tsade: Ataron mi vida en mazmorra, pusieron piedra sobre mí.
They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and have cast a stone on me.
54 Tsade Aguas de avenida vinieron sobre mi cabeza; yo dije: muerto soy.
Waters flowed over my head. I said, “I am cut off.”
55 Cof: Invoqué tu nombre, oh SEÑOR, desde la cárcel profunda.
I called on your name, LORD, out of the lowest dungeon.
56 Cof: Oíste mi voz; no escondas tu oído a mi clamor, para mi respiro.
You heard my voice: “Do not hide your ear from my sighing, and my cry.”
57 Cof: Te acercaste el día que te invoqué; dijiste: No temas.
You came near in the day that I called on you. You said, “Do not be afraid.”
58 Resh: Abogaste, Señor, la causa de mi alma; redimiste mi vida.
Lord, you have pleaded the causes of my soul. You have redeemed my life.
59 Resh: Tú has visto, oh SEÑOR, mi sinrazón; pleitea mi causa.
LORD, you have seen my wrong. Judge my cause.
60 Resh: Tú has visto toda su venganza; todos sus pensamientos contra mí.
You have seen all their vengeance and all their plans against me.
61 Sin: Tú has oído la afrenta de ellos, oh SEÑOR, todas sus maquinaciones contra mí;
You have heard their reproach, LORD, and all their plans against me,
62 Sin: Los dichos de los que se levantaron contra mí, y su designio contra mí todo el día.
the lips of those that rose up against me, and their plots against me all day long.
63 Sin: Su sentarse, y su levantarse mira; yo soy su canción.
You see their sitting down and their rising up. I am their song.
64 Tau: Dales el pago, oh SEÑOR, según la obra de sus manos.
You will pay them back, LORD, according to the work of their hands.
65 Tau: Dales ansia de corazón, tu maldición a ellos.
You will give them hardness of heart, your curse to them.
66 Tau: Persíguelos en tu furor, y quebrántalos de debajo de los cielos, oh SEÑOR.
You will pursue them in anger, and destroy them from under the heavens of the LORD.
