Esdras 10
1 Y orando Esdras y confesando, llorando y postrándose delante de la casa de Dios, se juntó a él una muy grande multitud de Israel, hombres y mujeres y niños; y lloraba el pueblo con gran llanto.
As Ezra was praying and confessing sins, weeping and falling down on his face before God's Temple, a very large crowd of Israelites, men, women, and children, gathered around him. The people were weeping bitterly as well.
2 Entonces respondió Secanías hijo de Jehiel, de los hijos Elam, y dijo a Esdras: Nos hemos rebelado contra nuestro Dios, pues tomamos mujeres extranjeras de los pueblos de la tierra; mas hay aún esperanza para Israel sobre esto.
Shecaniah, son of Jehiel, an Elamite, said to Ezra: “Yes, we have been unfaithful to our God because we have married foreign women from the people of the land. But even so there is still hope for Israel over this.
3 Por tanto ahora hagamos alianza con nuestro Dios, que echaremos todas las mujeres y los nacidos de ellas, según el consejo del Señor, y de los que temen el mandamiento de nuestro Dios; y hágase conforme a la ley.
Let us make a solemn agreement right now before our God that we will send away all the foreign wives and their children. We will follow the directions given by you and those who respect the instructions of our God, carried out according to the Law.
4 Levántate, porque a ti toca el negocio, y nosotros estaremos contigo; esfuérzate, y ponlo por obra.
Take action! It's your responsibility. We are with you. Be brave and do it!”
5 Entonces se levantó Esdras, y juramentó a los príncipes de los sacerdotes y de los levitas, y a todo Israel, que harían conforme a esto; y ellos juraron.
So Ezra stood up and made the leading priests, Levites, and all the Israelites present take an oath to act on what had just been said. They all took the oath.
6 Se levantó luego Esdras de delante de la Casa de Dios, y se fue a la cámara de Johanán hijo de Eliasib; e ido allá, no comió pan ni bebió agua, porque se entristeció sobre la prevaricación de los de la transmigración.
Then Ezra left them in front of God's Temple, and went to the room of Jehohanan, son of Eliashib. During the time he stayed there, he didn't eat or drink anything, because he was still mourning the unfaithfulness of the exiles.
7 E hicieron pasar pregón por Judá y por Jerusalén a todos los hijos de la transmigración, que se juntasen en Jerusalén;
Then a proclamation was issued throughout Judah and Jerusalem that all the exiles should assemble in Jerusalem.
8 y que el que no viniera dentro de tres días, conforme al acuerdo de los príncipes y de los ancianos, perdiese toda su hacienda, y él fuese apartado de la compañía de los de la transmigración.
Anyone who did not come within three days would have all their property confiscated, and would be banned from the assembly of the exiles. This was the decision of the leaders and elders.
9 Así fueron reunidos todos los varones de Judá y de Benjamín en Jerusalén dentro de tres días, a los veinte del mes, el cual era el mes noveno; y se sentó todo el pueblo en la plaza de la Casa de Dios, temblando con motivo de aquel negocio, y a causa de las lluvias.
Within three days, everyone from Judah and Benjamin assembled in Jerusalem. On the twentieth day of the ninth month, all the people sat in the square beside God's Temple, shivering because of this issue and also because of the heavy rain.
10 Y se levantó Esdras el sacerdote, y les dijo: Vosotros habéis prevaricado, por cuanto tomásteis mujeres extrañas, añadiendo así sobre el pecado de Israel.
Ezra the priest stood up and told them, “You have committed sin by marrying foreign women, making Israel's guilt even worse.
11 Ahora pues, dad confesión al SEÑOR Dios de vuestros padres, y haced su voluntad, y apartaos de los pueblos de las tierras, y de las mujeres extranjeras.
Now you must confess your sin to the Lord, the God of your forefathers, and do what he requires. Sever your connections with the people of the land and your foreign wives.”
12 Y respondió toda la congregación, y dijeron en alta voz: Así se haga conforme a tu palabra.
The whole assembly answered in a loud voice: “We agree, and we promise to do as you say!
13 Mas el pueblo es mucho, y el tiempo lluvioso, y no hay fuerza para estar en la calle; ni la obra es de un día ni de dos, porque somos muchos los que hemos prevaricado en este negocio.
But there are a lot of people here, and it's pouring with rain. We can't stay outside. More to the point, this isn't something that can be fixed in one or two days, for we have sinned extremely seriously in this.
14 Estén ahora nuestro príncipes, los de toda la congregación; y todos aquellos que en nuestras ciudades hubieren tomado mujeres extranjeras, vengan a tiempos aplazados, y con ellos los ancianos de cada ciudad, y los jueces de ellas, hasta que apartemos de nosotros el furor de la ira de nuestro Dios sobre esto.
Let our leaders act on behalf of the whole assembly. Then let every man in each of our towns who has married a foreign woman be given an appointment to come and meet, together with the elders and judges of that town, until our God is no longer angry with us over this.”
15 Fueron pues puestos sobre este negocio Jonatán hijo de Asael, y Jahazías hijo de Ticva; y Mesulam y Sabetai, levitas, les ayudaron.
The only ones to oppose this were Jonathan, son of Asahel, and Jahzeiah, son of Tikvah, supported by Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite.
16 E hicieron así los hijos de la transmigración. Y fueron apartados Esdras y los varones cabezas de los padres en la casa de sus padres, y todos ellos por sus nombres; y se sentaron el primer día del mes décimo para inquirir sobre el negocio.
So this what the exiles did, selecting Ezra the priest and family leaders, according to their family divisions, all of them specifically named. On the first day of the tenth month they sat down to begin the inquiry,
17 Y concluyeron, con todos aquellos que habían tomado mujeres extranjeras, al primer día del mes primero.
and by the first day of the first month they had finished handling all the cases of men who had married foreign women.
18 Y de los hijos de los sacerdotes que habían tomado mujeres extranjeras, fueron hallados éstos: De los hijos de Jesúa hijo de Josadac, y de sus hermanos: Maasías, y Eliezer, y Jarib, y Gedalías;
Among the descendants of the priests, the following had married foreign women: from the sons of Jeshua son of Jozadak, and his brothers Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah.
19 y dieron su mano en promesa de echar sus mujeres, y ofrecieron como culpados un carnero de los rebaños por su delito.
They vowed to send their wives away, and they presented a ram from the flock as a guilt offering for their guilt.
20 Y de los hijos de Imer: Hanani y Zebadías.
From the sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah.
21 Y de los hijos de Harim: Maasías, y Elías, y Semaías, y Jehiel, y Uzías.
From the sons of Harim: Maaseiah, Elijah, Shemaiah, Jehiel, and Uzziah.
22 Y de los hijos de Pasur: Elioenai, Maasías, Ismael, Natanael, Jozabad, y Elasa.
From the sons of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah.
23 Y de los hijos de los levitas: Jozabad, y Simei, Kelaía (éste es Kelita), Petaías, Judá y Eliezer.
Among the Levites: Jozabad, Shimei, Kelaiah (or Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.
24 Y de los cantores, Eliasib; y de los porteros: Salum, y Telem, y Uri.
Among the singers: Eliashib. Among the gatekeepers: Shallum, Telem, and Uri.
25 Asimismo de Israel, de los hijos de Paros: Ramía y Jezías, y Malquías, y Mijamín, y Eleazar, y Malquías, y Benaía.
Among the Israelites: From the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, Izziah, Malkijah, Mijamin, Eleazar, Hashabiah, and Benaiah.
26 Y de los hijos de Elam: Matanías, Zacarías, y Jehiel, y Abdi, y Jeremot, y Elías.
From the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, Jehiel, Abdi, Jeremoth, and Elijah.
27 Y de los hijos de Zatu: Elioenai, Eliasib, Matanías, y Jeremot, y Zabad, y Aziza.
From the sons of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, Jeremoth, Zabad, and Aziza.
28 Y de los hijos de Bebai: Johanán, Hananías, Zabai, Atlai.
From the sons of Bebai: Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai.
29 Y de los hijos de Bani: Mesulam, Maluc, y Adaía, Jasub, y Seal, y Ramot.

30 Y de los hijos de Pahat-moab: Adna, y Quelal, Benaía, Maasías, Matanías, Bezaleel, Binúi y Manasés.
From the sons of Pahath-moab: Adna, Kelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, Binnui, and Manasseh.
31 Y de los hijos de Harim: Eliezer, Isías, Malquías, Semaías, Simeón,
From the sons of Harim: Eliezer, Ishijah, Malkijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon,
32 Benjamín, Maluc, y Semarías.
Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemariah.
33 De los hijos de Hasum: Matenai, Matata, Zabad, Elifelet, Jeremai, Manasés, y Simei.

From the sons of Binnui: Shimei,
39 y Selemías y Natán y Adaía,

40 Macnadebai, Sasai, Sarai,

41 Azareel, y Selemías, Semarías,
Azarel, Shelemiah, Shemariah,
42 Salum, Amarías, y José.

43 Y de los hijos de Nebo: Jeiel, Matatías, Zabad, Zebina, Jadau, Joel y Benaía.
From the sons of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, Joel, and Benaiah.
44 Todos éstos habían tomado mujeres extranjeras; y había mujeres de ellos que habían dado a luz hijos.
All of these men listed had married foreign women. They divorced them and sent them away with their children.
