2 Reyes 18

1 En el tercer año de Oseas hijo de Ela rey de Israel, comenzó a reinar Ezequías hijo de Acaz rey de Judá.

Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, [that] Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.

2 Cuando comenzó a reinar era de veinticinco años, y reinó en Jerusalén veintinueve años. El nombre de su madre fue Abi hija de Zacarías.

Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also [was] Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.

3 El hizo lo recto en ojos del SEÑOR, conforme a todas las cosas que había hecho David su padre.

And he did [that which was] right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did.

4 El quitó los altos, y quebró las imágenes, y taló los bosques, e hizo pedazos la serpiente de bronce que había hecho Moisés, porque hasta entonces le quemaban incienso los hijos de Israel; y le llamó por nombre Nehustán ( cosa de bronce ).

He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.

5 En el SEÑOR Dios de Israel puso su esperanza; después ni antes de él no hubo otro como él en todos los reyes de Judá.

He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor [any] that were before him.

6 Porque se llegó al SEÑOR, y no se apartó de él, y guardó los mandamientos que el SEÑOR mandó a Moisés.

For he clave to the LORD, [and] departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.

7 Y el SEÑOR fue con él; y en todas las cosas a que salía prosperaba. El se rebeló contra el rey de Asiria, y no le sirvió.

And the LORD was with him; [and] he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.

8 Hirió también a los filisteos hasta Gaza y sus términos, desde las torres de las atalayas hasta la ciudad fortalecida.

He smote the Philistines, [even] unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

9 En el cuarto año del rey Ezequías, que era el año séptimo de Oseas hijo de Ela, rey de Israel, subió Salmanasar rey de los Asirios contra Samaria, y la cercó.

And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which [was] the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, [that] Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.

10 Y la tomaron al cabo de tres años; esto es, en el sexto año de Ezequías, el cual era el año noveno de Oseas rey de Israel, y así fue tomada Samaria.

And at the end of three years they took it: [even] in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that [is] the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.

11 Y el rey de Asiria traspuso a Israel a Asiria, y los puso en Halah, y en Habor, junto al río de Gozán, y en las ciudades de los Medos:

And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel unto Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor [by] the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:

12 Por cuanto no habían oído la voz del SEÑOR su Dios, antes habían quebrantado su pacto; y todas las cosas que Moisés siervo de Dios había mandado, ni las habían oído, ni las habían cumplido.

Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, [and] all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear [them], nor do [them].

13 Y a los catorce años del rey Ezequías, subió Senaquerib rey de Asiria contra todas las ciudades fuertes de Judá, y las tomó.

Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them.

14 Entonces Ezequías rey de Judá envió a decir al rey de Asiria en Laquis: Yo he pecado; vuélvete de mí, y yo llevaré todo lo que me impusieres. Entonces el rey de Asiria impuso a Ezequías rey de Judá trescientos talentos de plata, y treinta talentos de oro.

And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

15 Y Ezequías dio toda la plata que fue hallada en la Casa del SEÑOR, y en los tesoros de la casa real.

And Hezekiah gave [him] all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house.

16 Entonces rompió Ezequías las puertas del templo del SEÑOR, y los quiciales que el mismo rey Ezequías había cubierto de oro, y lo dio al rey de Asiria.

At that time did Hezekiah cut off [the gold from] the doors of the temple of the LORD, and [from] the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

17 Y el rey de Asiria envió a Tartán y a Rabsaris y a Rabsaces desde Laquis al rey Ezequías con un grande ejército contra Jerusalén; y subieron, y vinieron a Jerusalén. Y subieron, y vinieron, y pararon junto al conducto del estanque de arriba, que es en el camino de la heredad del lavador.

And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rab-shakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which [is] in the highway of the fuller’s field.

18 Y llamaron al rey, y salió a ellos Eliacim hijo de Hilcías, que era mayordomo, y Sebna escriba, y Joa hijo de Asaf, canciller.

And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which [was] over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.

19 Y les dijo Rabsaces: Decid ahora a Ezequías: Así dice el gran rey, el rey de Asiria: ¿Qué confianza es esta en que tú estás?

And Rab-shakeh said unto them, Speak ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence [is] this wherein thou trustest?

20 Dices, (por cierto palabras de labios): Consejo tengo y esfuerzo para la guerra. Mas ¿en qué confías, que te has rebelado contra mí?

Thou sayest, (but [they are but] vain words, ) [I have] counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

21 He aquí tú confías ahora en este bordón de caña quebrado, en Egipto, en el que si alguno se apoyare, le entrará por la mano, y se le pasará. Tal es Faraón rey de Egipto, para todos los que en él confían.

Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, [even] upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so [is] Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him.

22 Y si me decís: Nosotros confiamos en el SEÑOR nuestro Dios, ¿no es aquél cuyos altos y altares ha quitado Ezequías, y ha dicho a Judá y a Jerusalén: Delante de este altar adoraréis en Jerusalén?

But if ye say unto me, We trust in the LORD our God: [is] not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?

23 Por tanto, ahora yo te ruego que des rehenes a mi señor, el rey de Asiria, y yo te daré dos mil caballos, si tú pudieres dar jinetes para ellos.

Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.

24 ¿Cómo, pues, harás volver el rostro de un capitán, al menor de los siervos de mi señor, aunque estés confiado en Egipto por sus carros y su gente de a caballo?

How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

25 Además, ¿he venido yo ahora sin el SEÑOR a este lugar, para destruirlo? El SEÑOR me ha dicho: Sube a esta tierra, y destrúyela.

Am I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

26 Entonces dijo Eliacim hijo de Hilcías, y Sebna y Joa, a Rabsaces: Te ruego que hables a tus siervos siriaco, porque nosotros lo entendemos, y no hables con nosotros judaico a oídos del pueblo que está sobre el muro.

Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, unto Rab-shakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand [it: ] and talk not with us in the Jews’ language in the ears of the people that [are] on the wall.

27 Y Rabsaces les dijo: ¿Me ha enviado mi señor a ti y a tu señor para decir estas palabras, y no antes a los hombres que están sobre el muro, para comer su estiércol, y beber el agua de sus pies con vosotros?

But Rab-shakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? [hath he] not [sent me] to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?

28 Y se paró Rabsaces, y clamó a gran voz en judaico, y habló, diciendo: Oíd la palabra del gran rey, el rey de Asiria.

Then Rab-shakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spake, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria:

29 Así dijo el rey: No os engañe Ezequías, porque no os podrá librar de mi mano.

Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand:

30 Y no os haga Ezequías confiar en el SEÑOR, diciendo: De cierto nos librará el SEÑOR, y esta ciudad no será entregada en mano del rey de Asiria.

Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

31 No oigáis a Ezequías, porque así dice el rey de Asiria: Dadme presente, y salid a mí, y cada uno comerá de su vid, y de su higuera, y cada uno beberá las aguas de su pozo;

Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make [an agreement] with me by a present, and come out to me, and [then] eat ye every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his cistern:

32 hasta que yo venga, y os lleve a una tierra como la vuestra, tierra de grano y de vino, tierra de pan y de viñas; tierra de olivas, de aceite, y de miel; y viviréis, y no moriréis. No oigáis a Ezequías, porque os engaña cuando dice: El SEÑOR nos librará.

Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.

33 ¿Por ventura han librado los dioses de los gentiles cada uno su tierra de la mano del rey de Asiria?

Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

34 ¿Dónde está el dios de Hamat, y de Arfad? ¿Dónde está el dios de Sefarvaim, de Hena, y de Iva? ¿Pudieron éstos librar a Samaria de mi mano?

Where [are] the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where [are] the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of mine hand?

35 ¿Qué dios de todos los dioses de las provincias ha librado a su provincia de mi mano, para que libre el SEÑOR de mi mano a Jerusalén?

Who [are] they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of mine hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of mine hand?

36 Y el pueblo calló, que no le respondieron palabra; porque había mandamiento del rey, el cual había dicho: No le respondáis.

But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

37 Entonces Eliacim hijo de Hilcías, que era mayordomo, y Sebna el escriba, y Joa hijo de Asaf, canciller, vinieron a Ezequías, rotos sus vestidos, y le recitaron las palabras de Rabsaces.

Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which [was] over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with [their] clothes rent, and told him the words of Rab-shakeh.
