2 Crónicas 34
1 De ocho años era Josías cuando comenzó a reinar, y treinta y un años reinó en Jerusalén.
Josiah was eight when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for thirty-one years.
2 Este hizo lo recto en ojos del SEÑOR, y anduvo en los caminos de David su padre, sin apartarse a la diestra ni a la siniestra.
He did what was right in the Lord's sight and followed the ways of his forefather David—he did not deviate to the right or to the left.
3 A los ocho años de su reinado, siendo aún joven, comenzó a buscar al Dios de David su padre; y a los doce años comenzó a limpiar a Judá y a Jerusalén de los altos, bosques, esculturas, e imágenes de fundición.
In the eighth year of his reign, while he was still young, Josiah began to publicly worship the God of David his forefather, and in the twelfth year of his reign he began to cleanse Judah and Jerusalem by removing the high places, the Asherah poles, the carved idols, and the metal images.
4 Y derribaron delante de él los altares de los Baales, e hizo pedazos las imágenes del sol, que estaban puestas encima; y los bosques, y las esculturas e imagines de fundición, quebró y desmenuzó, y esparció el polvo sobre los sepulcros de los que habían sacrificado a ellos.
He had the altars of Baal torn down in front of him, and the incense altars above them cut down. In addition, the Asherah poles, the carved idols, and the metal images were smashed to pieces and scattered over the graves of those who had been sacrificing to them.
5 Asimismo quemó los huesos de los sacerdotes sobre sus altares, y limpió a Judá y a Jerusalén.
He burned the bones of the idolatrous priests on their altars. In this way he cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.
6 Lo mismo hizo en las ciudades de Manasés, Efraín, y Simeón, hasta en Neftalí, con sus lugares asolados alrededor.
Josiah repeated this in the towns of Manasseh, Ephraim, and Simeon, all the way to Naphtali, and in their surrounding areas.
7 Y cuando hubo derribado los altares y los bosques, y quebrado y desmenuzado las esculturas, y destruido todos los ídolos del sol por toda la tierra de Israel, se volvió a Jerusalén.
He tore down the altars and crushed the Asherah poles and the images to dust, and cut down all the incense altars across the whole land of Israel. Then he went back to Jerusalem.
8 A los dieciocho años de su reinado, después de haber limpiado la tierra, y la Casa, envió a Safán hijo de Azalía, y a Maasías gobernador de la ciudad, y a Joa hijo de Joacaz, canciller, para que reparasen la Casa del SEÑOR su Dios.
In the eighteenth year of his reign, once he had finished cleansing the land and the Temple, Josiah sent Shaphan, son of Azaliah, Maaseiah the city governor, and Joah, son of Joahaz, the record-keeper, to repair the Temple of the Lord his God.
9 Los cuales vinieron a Hilcías, sumo sacerdote, y dieron el dinero que había sido metido en la Casa del SEÑOR, que los levitas que guardaban la puerta habían recogido de mano de Manasés y de Efraín y de todas las reliquias de Israel, y de todo Judá y Benjamín, habiéndose después vuelto a Jerusalén.
They went to Hilkiah the high priest and gave him the money that had been brought to God's Temple. The Levites at the entrances had collected this money from the people of Manasseh and Ephraim, from what was left of the people of Israel, as well as contributions from Judah, Benjamin, and the people of Jerusalem.
10 Y lo entregaron en mano de los que hacían la obra, que eran sobrestantes en la Casa del SEÑOR; los cuales lo daban a los que hacían la obra y trabajaban en la Casa del SEÑOR, para reparar y restaurar el templo.
They handed it over to those who were supervising the repair work on Lord's Temple, who in turn paid the workmen doing the restoring and repairing.
11 Y dieron también a los oficiales y albañiles para que comprasen piedra de cantería, y madera para las trabazones, y para entabladura de las Casas, las cuales habían destruido los reyes de Judá.
They also paid carpenters and builders to buy cut stone, as well as timber for joists and beams for the buildings that the kings of Judah had let deteriorate.
12 Y estos varones trabajaban con fidelidad en la obra; y eran sus gobernadores Jahat y Abdías, levitas de los hijos de Merari; y Zacarías y Mesulam de los hijos de Coat, para que activasen la obra; y de los levitas, todos los entendidos en instrumentos de música.
The men did good, honest work. In charge of them were Jahath and Obadiah, Levites from the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, Levites from the sons of the Kohathites. The Levites, all skilled musicians,
13 También velaban sobre los cargadores, y eran sobrestantes de los que se ocupaban en cualquier clase de obra; y de los levitas había escribas, gobernadores, y porteros.
were in charge of the workmen and directed everyone involved, depending on what was required. Some of the Levites were scribes, some officers, and some gatekeepers.
14 Y cuando sacaron el dinero que había sido metido en la Casa del SEÑOR, Hilcías el sacerdote halló el libro de la ley del SEÑOR dada por mano de Moisés.
In the process of taking out the money donated to the Lord's Temple, Hilkiah the priest discovered the Book of the Lord's Law written down by Moses.
15 Y respondiendo Hilcías, dijo a Safán escriba: Yo he hallado el libro de la ley en la Casa del SEÑOR. Y dio Hilcías el libro a Safán.
Hilkiah told Shaphan the scribe, “I've found the Book of the Law in the Lord's Temple.” He gave it to Shaphan.
16 Y Safán lo llevó al rey, y le contó el negocio, diciendo: Tus siervos han cumplido todo lo que les fue dado a cargo.
Shaphan took the book to the king and told him, “We your servants are doing everything we were instructed to do.
17 Han tomado el dinero que se halló en la Casa del SEÑOR, y lo han entregado en mano de los comisionados, y en mano de los que hacen la obra.
The money collected at the Lord's Temple has been handed over to those who are supervising the workers, paying them to do the repairs.”
18 A más de esto, declaró Safán escriba al rey, diciendo: El sacerdote Hilcías me dio un libro. Y leyó Safán en él delante del rey.
Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, “Hilkiah the priest gave me this book.” Shaphan read it to the king.
19 Y cuando el rey oyó las palabras de la ley, rasgó sus vestidos;
When the king heard what the Law said, he tore his clothes.
20 y mandó a Hilcías y a Ahicam hijo de Safán, y a Abdón hijo de Micaía, y a Safán escriba, y a Asaías siervo del rey, diciendo:
Then he issue the following orders to Hilkiah, Ahikam, son of Shaphan, Abdon, son of Micah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah, the king's assistant:
21 Andad, y consultad al SEÑOR de mí, y de las reliquias de Israel y de Judá, acerca de las palabras del libro que se ha hallado; porque grande es el furor del SEÑOR que ha caído sobre nosotros, por cuanto nuestros padres no guardaron la palabra del SEÑOR, para hacer conforme a todas las cosas que está escrito en este libro.
“Go and talk to the Lord for me, and also for those who still live in Israel and Judah, about what is said in the book that's been found. For the Lord must be really angry with us because our forefathers have not obeyed the Lord's instructions by following all that's written in this book.”
22 Entonces Hilcías y los del rey fueron a Hulda profetisa, mujer de Salum, hijo de Ticva, hijo de Harhas, guarda de las vestimentas, la cual moraba en Jerusalén en la Casa de la doctrina; y le dijeron las palabras dichas.
Hilkiah and those the king had selected went and talked with Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum, son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, custodian of the wardrobe. She lived in Jerusalem, in the city's second quarter.
23 Y ella respondió: El SEÑOR Dios de Israel ha dicho así: Decid al varón que os ha enviado a mí, que así ha dicho el SEÑOR:
Huldah told them, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Tell the man who sent you to me,
24 He aquí yo traigo mal sobre este lugar, y sobre los moradores de él, todas las maldiciones que están escritas en el libro que leyeron delante del rey de Judá;
this is what the Lord says: I am about to bring disaster down on this place and on its people, in accordance with all the curses written in the book that has been read to the king of Judah.
25 por cuanto me han dejado, y han sacrificado a dioses ajenos, provocándome a ira en todas las obras de sus manos; por tanto mi furor lloverá sobre este lugar, y no se apagará.
They have abandoned me and offered sacrifices to other gods, making me angry by everything they've done. My anger will be poured out upon this place and will not be stopped.
26 Mas al rey de Judá, que os ha enviado a consultar al SEÑOR, así le diréis: El SEÑOR Dios de Israel ha dicho así: Por cuanto oíste las palabras del libro,
But tell the king of Judah who sent you to ask the Lord, tell him this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: As for the what you heard read to you—
27 y tu corazón se enterneció, y te humillaste delante de Dios oyendo sus palabras sobre este lugar, y sobre sus moradores; y te humillaste delante de mí, y rasgaste tus vestidos, y lloraste en mi presencia, yo también te he oído, dice el SEÑOR.
because you were receptive and repentant before God when you heard his warnings against this place and against its people, and because you have repented, tearing your clothes and weeping before me, I have also heard you, declares the Lord.
28 He aquí que yo te recogeré con tus padres, y serás recogido en tus sepulcros en paz; y tus ojos no verán todo el mal que yo traigo sobre este lugar, y sobre los moradores de él. Y ellos recitaron al rey la respuesta.
All this will not happen until after you have died, and you will die in peace. You will not see all the disaster that I'm going to bring down on this place and on its inhabitants.” They went back to the king and gave him her response.
29 Entonces el rey envió y juntó todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalén.
Then the king summoned all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
30 Y subió el rey a la Casa del SEÑOR, y con él todos los varones de Judá, y los moradores de Jerusalén, y los sacerdotes, y los levitas, y todo el pueblo desde el mayor hasta el más pequeño; y leyó a oídos de ellos todas las palabras del libro del pacto que había sido hallado en la Casa del SEÑOR.
He went to the Lord's Temple with all the people of Judah and Jerusalem, together with the priests and the Levites, all the people from the least to the greatest, and he read to them the whole Book of the Agreement that had been discovered in the Lord's Temple.
31 Y estando el rey en pie en su sitio, hizo alianza delante del SEÑOR, que andaría en pos del SEÑOR, y que guardarían sus mandamientos, sus testimonios, y sus estatutos, de todo su corazón y de toda su alma, cumpliendo las palabras del pacto que estaban escritas en aquel libro.
The king stood by the pillar and made a solemn agreement before the Lord to follow him and to keep his commandments, laws, and regulations with total dedication, and to observe the requirements of the agreement as written in the book.
32 E hizo que consintiesen todos los que estaban en Jerusalén y en Benjamín; y así hicieron los moradores de Jerusalén conforme al pacto de Dios, del Dios de sus padres.
Then he had everyone present from Jerusalem and Benjamin stand up to show they agreed to it. So all the people of Jerusalem accepted and followed the agreement with God, the God of their forefathers.
33 Y quitó Josías todas las abominaciones de todas las tierras de los hijos de Israel; e hizo a todos los que se hallaron en Israel que sirviesen al SEÑOR su Dios. No se apartaron de en pos del SEÑOR Dios de sus padres, todo el tiempo que él vivió.
Josiah demolished all the vile idols from the whole territory belonging to the Israelites, and he made everyone in Israel serve the Lord their God. During his reign they did not give up worshiping the Lord, the God of their fathers.
