2 Crónicas 32
1 Después de estas cosas y de esta fidelidad, vino Senaquerib rey de los Asirios, entró en Judá, y asentó campamento contra las ciudades fuertes, y determinó de entrar en ellas.
After Hezekiah's faithful work, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, invaded Judah and attacked its fortified towns, planning to conquer them for himself.
2 Viendo, pues, Ezequías la venida de Senaquerib, y su determinación de combatir a Jerusalén,
When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come to attack Jerusalem,
3 tuvo su consejo con sus príncipes y con sus valerosos, sobre cegar las fuentes de las aguas que estaban fuera de la ciudad; y ellos le apoyaron.
he talked with his army commanders about blocking up the water sources that lay outside the city. This is what they did.
4 Y se juntó mucho pueblo, y taparon todas las fuentes, y también el arroyo que va por medio de la tierra, diciendo: ¿Por qué han de hallar los reyes de Asiria muchas aguas cuando vinieren?
They directed a large group of workers to block all the springs as well as the stream flowing nearby. “Why should the kings of Assyria come here and find plenty of water?” they asked.
5 Se confortó, pues, Ezequías, y edificó todos los muros caídos, e hizo alzar las torres, y otro muro por de fuera; fortificó además a Millo en la ciudad de David, e hizo muchas espadas y paveses.
Hezekiah set to work and rebuilt all the parts of the wall that had fallen down and constructed towers on it. He also built another wall outside the first wall. He reinforced the Millo in the city of David. He also made a large quantity of weapons and shields.
6 Y puso capitanes de guerra sobre el pueblo, y los hizo reunir así en la plaza de la puerta de la ciudad, y les habló al corazón de ellos, diciendo:
Hezekiah put army commanders in charge of the people. Then he summoned the people to gather in the square at the city gate. He spoke to them confidently, telling them,
7 Esforzaos y confortaos; no temáis, ni hayáis miedo del rey de Asiria, ni de toda su multitud que con él viene; porque más son con nosotros que con él.
“Be strong and be brave! Don't be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria with his large army, for there are more with us than with him.
8 Con él es el brazo de carne, mas con nosotros el SEÑOR nuestro Dios para ayudarnos, y pelear nuestras batallas. Y se afirmó el pueblo sobre las palabras de Ezequías rey de Judá.
He has human help, but we have the Lord God on our side to help us and fight our battles.” The people were encouraged by this speech of Hezekiah, king of Judah.
9 Después de esto Senaquerib rey de los asirios, estando él sobre Laquis y con él toda su potencia, envió sus siervos a Jerusalén, para decir a Ezequías rey de Judá, y a todo Judá que estaba en Jerusalén:
Some time later, when Sennacherib was attacking the town of Lachish with his armies, he sent his officers to Jerusalem with this message for Hezekiah, king of Judah, and for everyone from Judah living there.
10 Así ha dicho Senaquerib rey de los Asirios: ¿En quién confiáis vosotros para estar cercados en Jerusalén?
“This is what Sennacherib, king of Assyria, says. What are you going to trust in to help you survive when I come to attack Jerusalem?
11 ¿No os engaña Ezequías para entregaros a muerte, a hambre, y a sed, diciendo: El SEÑOR nuestro Dios nos librará de la mano del rey de Asiria?
Can't you see that in reality Hezekiah is telling you to die from starvation and thirst when he tells you, ‘The Lord our God will save us from the king of Assyria’?
12 ¿No es Ezequías el que ha quitado sus altos y sus altares, y dijo a Judá y a Jerusalén: Delante de este solo altar adoraréis, y sobre él quemaréis incienso?
Wasn't it Hezekiah who destroyed the high places and altars of this god and told Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship at this one altar, and offer sacrifices on it alone’?
13 ¿No habéis sabido lo que yo y mis padres hemos hecho a todos los pueblos de la tierras? ¿Pudieron por ventura los dioses de los gentiles de las tierras librar su tierra de mi mano?
Don't you know what I and my fathers have done to all the nations of the earth? None of their gods could save them or their lands from me!
14 ¿Qué dios hubo de todos los dioses de aquellas gentiles que destruyeron mis padres, que pudiese librar su pueblo de mis manos? ¿Por qué podrá vuestro Dios salvaros de mi mano?
Which one of all these gods of these nations that my fathers destroyed has been able to save them from me? So why would you think your god can save you from me?
15 Ahora, pues, no os engañe Ezequías, ni os persuada tal cosa, ni le creáis; que si ningún dios de todas aquellas naciones y reinos pudo librar su pueblo de mis manos, y de las manos de mis padres, ¿cuánto menos vuestro Dios os podrá librar de mi mano?
So don't let Hezekiah fool you, and don't let him mislead you like this. Don't trust him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to save their people from me or from my fathers. So it's even less possible for your god to save you from me!”
16 Y otras cosas hablaron sus siervos contra el SEÑOR Dios, y contra su siervo Ezequías.
Sennacherib's officers continued criticizing the Lord God and his servant Hezekiah.
17 Además de todo esto escribió letras en que blasfemaba al SEÑOR Dios de Israel, y hablaba contra él, diciendo: Como los dioses de los gentiles de los países no pudieron librar su pueblo de mis manos, tampoco el Dios de Ezequías librará al suyo de mis manos.
Sennacherib also wrote letters insulting the Lord, the God of Israel, taunting him by saying, “In the same way the gods of the nations did not save their people from me, so the god of Hezekiah will not save his people from me either.”
18 Y clamaron a gran voz en judaico contra el pueblo de Jerusalén que estaba en los muros, para espantarlos y ponerles temor, para tomar la ciudad.
The Assyrians also shouted this out in Hebrew to the people of Jerusalem standing on the wall to frighten and to terrify them so that the city would be surrendered.
19 Y hablaron contra el Dios de Jerusalén, como contra los dioses de los pueblos de la tierra, obra de manos de hombres.
They talked about the God of Jerusalem like they did about the gods of the other nations, gods made by human beings.
20 Mas el rey Ezequías, y el profeta Isaías hijo de Amós, oraron por esto, y clamaron al cielo.
King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, appealed about this in prayer to the God of heaven.
21 Y el SEÑOR envió un ángel, el cual hirió a todo valiente de gran valor, y a los capitanes y a los príncipes en el campamento del rey de Asiria. Se volvió, por tanto, con vergüenza de rostro a su tierra; y entrando en el templo de su dios, allí lo mataron a cuchillo los que habían salido de sus entrañas.
The Lord sent an angel who wiped out every warrior, leader, and commander in the camp of the Assyrian king. So he returned home in disgrace. When he went into the temple of his god, some of his own sons killed him with their swords.
22 Así salvó el SEÑOR a Ezequías y a los moradores de Jerusalén de las manos de Senaquerib rey de Asiria, y de las manos de todos; y los guió en cuanto a todo.
The Lord saved Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from King Sennacherib of Assyria and all other enemies, giving them peace in every direction.
23 Y muchos trajeron presente al SEÑOR a Jerusalén; y a Ezequías rey de Judá, ricos dones; y fue muy grande delante de todos los gentiles después de esto.
From then on he was very well respected by all the nations, and many brought offerings to Jerusalem for the Lord and valuable gifts for Hezekiah, king of Judah.
24 En aquel tiempo Ezequías enfermó de muerte; y oró al SEÑOR, el cual le respondió, y le dio una señal.
Around that time Hezekiah fell sick and was about to die. So he prayed to the Lord, who replied by healing him and giving him a miraculous sign.
25 Mas Ezequías no pagó conforme al bien que le había sido hecho; antes se enalteció su corazón, y fue la ira contra él, y contra Judá y Jerusalén.
But because he had become proud, Hezekiah did not acknowledge the gift he'd been given. So the Lord's anger fell on him, and on Judah and Jerusalem.
26 Pero Ezequías, después de haberse enaltecido su corazón, se humilló, él y los moradores de Jerusalén; y no vino sobre ellos la ira del SEÑOR en los días de Ezequías.
Then Hezekiah apologized for his arrogance, as did the people of Jerusalem, and the Lord's anger no longer fell on them during Hezekiah's lifetime.
27 Y tuvo Ezequías riquezas y gloria mucha en gran manera; y se hizo tesoros de plata y oro, de piedras preciosas, de especias, de escudos, y de todos vasos de desear.
Hezekiah was very rich and highly honored, and he built treasury storerooms to hold silver, gold, precious stones, spices, shields, and all kinds of valuable things.
28 Asimismo hizo depósitos para las rentas del grano, del vino, y aceite; establos para toda suerte de bestias, y majadas para los ganados.
He constructed buildings to store supplies of grain, new wine, and olive oil, and stalls for all kinds of animals, including cattle and sheep.
29 Se hizo también ciudades, y hatos de ovejas y de vacas en gran copia; porque Dios le había dado mucha hacienda.
He built many towns, and he owned large herds of cattle and flocks of sheep, for God had made him very wealthy.
30 Este Ezequías tapó los manaderos de las aguas de Gihón la de arriba, y las encaminó abajo al occidente de la ciudad de David. Y fue prosperado Ezequías en todo lo que hizo.
Hezekiah blocked off the outlet of the upper Gihon spring and made the water flow down to the west side of the City of David. Hezekiah was successful in everything he did.
31 Pero a causa de los embajadores de los príncipes de Babilonia, que enviaron a él para saber del prodigio que había acaecido en aquella tierra, Dios lo dejó, para probarle, para hacer conocer todo lo que estaba en su corazón.
But when ambassadors of the rulers of Babylon came to him to ask about the miraculous sign that had happened in the country, God left him to himself test him, so he could know Hezekiah's true thinking.
32 Lo demás de los hechos de Ezequías, y de sus misericordias, he aquí todo está escrito en la profecía de Isaías profeta, hijo de Amós, y en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.
The rest of what Hezekiah did, including his acts of loyalty, are recorded in the vision of the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
33 Y durmió Ezequías con sus padres, y lo sepultaron en los más insignes sepulcros de los hijos de David, honrándole en su muerte todo Judá y los de Jerusalén; y reinó en su lugar Manasés su hijo.
Hezekiah died and was buried in the upper cemetery of David's descendants. All Judah and the people of Jerusalem honored him at his death. His son Manasseh took over as king.
