1 Samuel 23

1 Y dieron aviso a David, diciendo: He aquí que los filisteos combaten a Keila, y roban las eras.

And they sent word to David, saying, The Philistines are fighting against Keilah and taking the grain from the grain-floors.

2 Y David consultó al SEÑOR, diciendo: ¿Iré a herir a estos filisteos? Y el SEÑOR respondió a David: Ve, hiere a los filisteos, y libra a Keila.

So David, questioning the Lord, said, Am I to go and make an attack on these Philistines? And the Lord said to David, Go and make an attack on the Philistines so that Keilah may be kept from falling into their hands.

3 Mas los varones que estaban con David le dijeron: He aquí que nosotros aquí en Judá estamos con miedo; ¿cuánto más si fuéremos a Keila contra el ejército de los filisteos?

And David's men said to him, Even here in Judah we are full of fear: how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?

4 Entonces David volvió a consultar al SEÑOR. Y el SEÑOR le respondió, y dijo: Levántate, desciende a Keila, que yo entregaré en tus manos a los filisteos.

Then David put the question to the Lord again, and the Lord answering said, Up! go down to Keilah; for I will give the Philistines into your hands.

5 Y partió David con sus hombres a Keila, y peleó contra los filisteos, y trajo antecogidos sus ganados, y los hirió con grande estrago; y libró David a los de Keila.

So David and his men went to Keilah, and had a fight with the Philistines, and took away their cattle, and put them to the sword with great destruction. So David was the saviour of the people of Keilah.

6 Y aconteció que, huyendo Abiatar hijo de Ahimelec a David a Keila, vino en su mano el efod.

Now when Abiathar, the son of Ahimelech, went in flight to David, he came down to Keilah with the ephod in his hand.

7 Y fue dicho a Saúl como David había venido a Keila. Entonces dijo Saúl: Dios lo ha traído a mis manos; porque él está encerrado, habiéndose metido en ciudad con puertas y cerraduras.

And news was given to Saul that David had come to Keilah. And Saul said, Now God has given him into my hands; for by going into a walled town with locked doors, he has let himself be shut in.

8 Y convocó Saúl todo el pueblo a la batalla, para descender a Keila, y poner cerco a David y a los suyos.

And Saul sent for all the people to come to the fight, and go down to Keilah to make an attack on David and his men.

9 Mas entendiendo David que Saúl ideaba el mal contra él, dijo a Abiatar sacerdote: Trae el efod.

And it was clear to David that Saul had evil designs against him, and he said to Abiathar the priest, Come here with the ephod.

10 Y dijo David: SEÑOR Dios de Israel, tu siervo ha oído que Saúl procura venir contra Keila, a destruir la ciudad por causa mía.

Then David said, O Lord, the God of Israel, news has been given to your servant that it is Saul's purpose to come to Keilah and send destruction on the town because of me.

11 ¿Me entregarán los señores de Keila en sus manos? ¿Descenderá Saúl, como tu siervo tiene oído? SEÑOR Dios de Israel, te ruego que lo declares a tu siervo. Y el SEÑOR dijo: Sí, descenderá.

And now, is it true, as they have said to me, that Saul is coming? O Lord, the God of Israel, give ear to your servant, and say if these things are so. And the Lord said, He is coming down.

12 Dijo luego David: ¿Me entregarán los señores de Keila a mí y a los varones que están conmigo en manos de Saúl? Y el SEÑOR respondió: Te entregarán.

Then David said, Will the men of Keilah give me and my men up to Saul? and the Lord said, They will give you up.

13 David entonces se levantó con sus hombres, que eran como seiscientos, y salieron de Keila, y fueron de una parte a otra. Y vino la nueva a Saúl de como David se había escapado de Keila; y dejó de salir.

Then David and his men, about six hundred of them, went out of Keilah, and got away wherever they were able to go. And Saul, hearing that David had got away from Keilah, did not go there.

14 Y David se estaba en el desierto en peñas, y habitaba en un monte en el desierto de Zif; y lo buscaba Saúl todos los días, mas Dios no lo entregó en sus manos.

And David kept in the waste land, in safe places, waiting in the hill-country in the waste land of Ziph. And Saul was searching for him every day, but God did not give him up into his hands.

15 Viendo, pues, David que Saúl había salido en busca de su alma, se estaba él en el bosque en el desierto de Zif.

And David was full of fear, in the knowledge that Saul had come out to take his life; and David was in the waste land of Ziph, in Horesh.

16 Entonces se levantó Jonatán hijo de Saúl, y vino a David en el bosque, y confortó su mano en Dios.

And Saul's son Jonathan went to David in Horesh, and made his hands strong in God;

17 Y le dijo: No temas, que no te hallará la mano de Saúl mi padre, y tú reinarás sobre Israel, y yo seré segundo después de ti; y aun mi padre así lo sabe.

And said to him, Have no fear, for Saul my father will not get you into his power; and you will be king of Israel, and I will be by your side, and my father Saul is certain of this.

18 Y entre ambos hicieron alianza delante del SEÑOR; y David se quedó en el bosque, y Jonatán se volvió a su casa.

And the two of them made an agreement before the Lord: and David went on living in Horesh, and Jonathan went back to his house.

19 Y subieron los de Zif a decir a Saúl en Gabaa: ¿No está David escondido en nuestra tierra en las peñas del bosque, en el collado de Haquila ( oscuro ) que está a la mano derecha del desierto?

Then the Ziphites came up to Gibeah to see Saul, and said, Is not David living secretly among us in the strong places in Horesh, in the hill of Hachilah to the south of the waste land?

20 Por tanto, rey, desciende ahora presto, según todo el deseo de tu alma, y nosotros lo entregaremos en la mano del rey.

So now, O king, have your soul's desire and come down, and we, for our part, will give him up into the king's hands.

21 Y Saúl dijo: Benditos seáis vosotros del SEÑOR, que habéis tenido compasión de mí.

And Saul said, The Lord's blessing will be yours, for you have had pity on me.

22 Id, pues, ahora, apercibid aún, considerad y ved su lugar donde tiene el pie, y quién lo haya visto allí; porque se me ha dicho que él es en gran manera astuto.

Go now, and take more steps, and see where he is living: for they say that he is expert in deceit.

23 Considerad, pues, y ved todos los escondrijos donde se oculta, y volved a mí con la certidumbre, y yo iré con vosotros; que si él estuviere en la tierra, yo le buscaré con todos los millares de Judá.

So take care to get knowledge of all the secret places where he is taking cover, and be certain to come back to me, and I will go with you: and without doubt, if he is anywhere in the land, I will get him, among all the families of Judah.

24 Y ellos se levantaron, y se fueron a Zif delante de Saúl. Mas David y sus varones estaban en el desierto de Maón, en la llanura que está a la diestra del desierto.

And they went back and came to Ziph before Saul: but David and his men were in the waste land of Maon, in the dry land south of the waste land.

25 Y partió Saúl con sus varones a buscarlo; pero fue dado aviso a David, y descendió de allí a la peña, y se quedó en el desierto de Maón. Lo cual cuando Saúl oyó, siguió a David al desierto de Maón.

And Saul and his men went in search of him. And David had word of it, so he came down to the rock in the waste land of Maon. And Saul, hearing of this, went after David into the waste land of Maon.

26 Y Saúl iba por un lado del monte, y David con los suyos por el otro lado del monte; y David se daba prisa para ir delante de Saúl; mas Saúl y los suyos habían encerrado a David y a los suyos para tomarlos.

And Saul and his men went on one side of the mountain, and David and his men went on the other: and David's purpose was to get away as quickly as possible, for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men were making a circle round David and his men in order to take them.

27 Entonces vino un mensajero a Saúl, diciendo: Ven luego, porque los filisteos han entrado con ímpetu en la tierra.

But a man came to Saul saying, Be quick and come; for the Philistines have made an attack on the land.

28 Se volvió, por tanto, Saúl de perseguir a David, y partió contra los filisteos. Por esta causa pusieron a aquel lugar por nombre Sela-hama-lecot ( peña de las divisiones ).

So turning back from going after David, Saul went against the Philistines: so that place was named Sela-hammah-lekoth.

29 Entonces David subió de allí, y habitó en los parajes fuertes en En-gadi.

And from there, David went up and took cover in the safe place of En-gedi.
