1 Samuel 15
1 Y Samuel dijo a Saúl: el SEÑOR me envió a que te ungiese por rey sobre su pueblo Israel; oye, pues, la voz de las palabras del SEÑOR.
And Samuel said unto Saul, Me did the Lord send to anoint thee as king over his people, over Israel; and now hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the Lord.
2 Así dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos: Me acuerdo de lo que hizo Amalec a Israel; que se le opuso en el camino, cuando subía de Egipto.
Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, I remember what Amalek did to Israel, how he lay in wait for him on the way, when he came up from Egypt.
3 Ve pues, y hiere a Amalec, y destruiréis en él todo lo que tuviere; y no tengas piedad de él; mata hombres y mujeres, niños y mamantes, vacas y ovejas, camellos y asnos.
Now go and smite 'Amalek, and devote all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and lamb, camel and ass.
4 Y Saúl juntó al pueblo, y los reconoció en Telaim, doscientos mil hombres de a pie, y diez mil varones de Judá.
And Saul ordered the people to assemble, and he numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand men on foot, and ten thousand of the men of Judah.
5 Y viniendo Saúl a la ciudad de Amalec, puso emboscada en el valle.
And Saul came to the city of 'Amalek, and he fought in the valley.
6 Y dijo Saúl al ceneo: Idos, apartaos, y salid de entre los de Amalec, para que por ventura no te destruya juntamente con él; porque tú hiciste misericordia con todos los hijos de Israel, cuando subían de Egipto. Y el ceneo se apartó de entre los de Amalec.
And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from the midst of the 'Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; whereas ye acted kindly with all the children of Israel, at their coming up out of Egypt. And the Kenites departed from the midst of the 'Amalekites.
7 Y Saúl hirió a Amalec, desde Havila hasta llegar a Shur, que está a la frontera de Egipto.
And Saul smote the 'Amalekites from Chavilah until thou comest to Shur, that is before Egypt.
8 Y tomó vivo a Agag rey de Amalec, mas a todo el pueblo mató a filo de espada.
And he caught Agag the king of the 'Amalekites alive, and all the people he devoted to the edge of the sword.
9 Y Saúl y el pueblo perdonaron a Agag, y a lo mejor de las ovejas, y al ganado mayor, a los gruesos y a los carneros, y finalmente a todo lo bueno, que no lo quisieron destruir; mas todo lo que era vil y flaco destruyeron.
But Saul together with the people had pity on Agag, and on the best of the flocks, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the fat lambs, and all that was good, and they would not destroy them; but all the cattle that was of little value and weak, that they destroyed.
10 Y vino palabra del SEÑOR a Samuel, diciendo:
And the word of the Lord came unto Samuel, saying,
11 Me pesa de haber puesto por rey a Saúl, porque se ha vuelto de en pos de mí, y no ha cumplido mis palabras. Y pesó a Samuel, y clamó al SEÑOR toda aquella noche.
I repent that I have set up Saul as king; for he hath turned back from following me, and my word hath he not performed: and it displeased Samuel, and he cried unto the Lord all the night.
12 Y Samuel madrugó para ir a encontrar a Saúl por la mañana; y fue dado aviso a Samuel, diciendo: Saúl ha venido al Carmel, y he aquí él se ha levantado un monumento, y después volviendo, ha pasado y descendido a Gilgal.
And Samuel rose up early to meet Saul in the morning; and it was told to Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set himself up a monument, and then went about, and passed on, and went down to Gilgal.
13 Vino, pues, Samuel a Saúl, y Saúl le dijo: Bendito seas tú del SEÑOR; yo he cumplido la palabra del SEÑOR.
And Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou unto the Lord, I have performed the word of the Lord.
14 Samuel entonces dijo: ¿Pues qué balido de ovejas y bramido de bueyes es éste que yo oigo con mis oídos?
And Samuel said, What is then this bleating of the flocks in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?
15 Y Saúl respondió: De Amalec los han traído; porque el pueblo perdonó a lo mejor de las ovejas y de las vacas, para sacrificarlas al SEÑOR tu Dios; pero lo demás lo destruimos.
And Saul said, From the 'Amalekites have they brought them; because the people had pity on the best of the flocks and of the oxen, in order to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God; and the rest have we destroyed.
16 Entonces dijo Samuel a Saúl: Déjame declararte lo que el SEÑOR me ha dicho esta noche. Y él le respondió: Di.
And Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the Lord said to me this night: and he said unto him, Speak.
17 Y dijo Samuel: Siendo tú pequeño en tus propios ojos ¿no has sido hecho cabeza a las tribus de Israel, y el SEÑOR te ha ungido por rey sobre Israel?
And Samuel said, Is it not that, however little thou wast in thy own eyes, thou art the head of the tribes of Israel? and the Lord anointed thee as king over Israel?
18 Y te envió el SEÑOR en jornada, y dijo: Ve, y destruye a los pecadores de Amalec, y hazles guerra hasta que los acabes.
And the Lord sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and destroy the sinners, the 'Amalekites, and thou shalt fight against them until they be consumed.
19 ¿Por qué, pues, no has oído la voz del SEÑOR? Antes vuelto al despojo, has hecho lo malo en los ojos del SEÑOR.
Wherefore then didst thou not hearken unto the voice of the Lord, and didst fly upon the spoil, and didst the evil in the eyes of the Lord?
20 Y Saúl respondió a Samuel: Antes he oído la voz del SEÑOR, y fui a la jornada que el SEÑOR me envió, y he traído a Agag rey de Amalec, y he destruido a los amalecitas.
And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have fully hearkened unto the voice of the Lord; and I went on the way which the Lord had sent me; and I have brought Agag the king of 'Amalek; and the 'Amalekites have I destroyed.
21 Mas el pueblo tomó del despojo ovejas y vacas, las primicias del anatema, para sacrificarlas al SEÑOR tu Dios en Gilgal.
And the people took of the spoil, of the flocks and oxen, the chief of the devoted things, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in Gilgal.
22 Y Samuel dijo: ¿Tiene el SEÑOR tanto contentamiento con los holocaustos y víctimas, como en oír la palabra del SEÑOR? Ciertamente el oír es mejor que los sacrificios; y el escuchar que el sebo de los carneros.
And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as much delight in burnt-offerings and in sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to attend more than the fat of the rams.
23 Porque la rebelión es pecado de hechicería, e ídolo e idolatría el quebrantar la palabra de Dios. Y por cuanto tú desechaste la palabra del SEÑOR, él también te ha desechado para que no seas rey.
For the sin of witchcraft is rebellion, and idolatry and image-worship, stubbornness; inasmuch as thou hast despised the word of the Lord, he hath also despised thee that thou shalt not be king.
24 Entonces Saúl dijo a Samuel: Yo he pecado; que he quebrantado el dicho del SEÑOR y tus palabras, porque temí al pueblo, consentí a la voz de ellos. Perdona, pues, ahora mi pecado,
And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned; for I have transgressed the will of the Lord, and thy words; because I feared the people, and I hearkened to their voice.
25 Y vuelve conmigo para que adore al SEÑOR.
And now, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and return with me, that I may prostrate myself to the Lord.
26 Y Samuel respondió a Saúl: No volveré contigo; porque desechaste la palabra del SEÑOR, y el SEÑOR te ha desechado para que no seas rey sobre Israel.
And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee; for thou didst despise the word of the Lord, and the Lord hath despised thee, that thou shalt not be king over Israel.
27 Y volviéndose Samuel para irse, él echó mano del canto de su capa, y se desgarró.
And Samuel turned about to go: and he laid hold on the corner of his mantle, and it was rent.
28 Entonces Samuel le dijo: el SEÑOR ha desgarrado hoy de ti el reino de Israel, y lo ha dado a tu prójimo mejor que tú.
And Samuel said unto him, The Lord hath rent the kingdom of Israel from off thee this day, and hath given it to thy associate, who is better than thou.
29 Y también el Vencedor de Israel no mentirá, ni se arrepentirá acerca de esto; porque no es hombre para que deba arrepentirse.
And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent.
30 Y él dijo: Yo he pecado; mas te ruego que me honres delante de los ancianos de mi pueblo, y delante de Israel; y vuelve conmigo para que adore al SEÑOR tu Dios.
And he said, I have sinned; [yet] honor me now, I pray thee, in the presence of the elders of my people, and in the presence of Israel, and return with me, that I may prostrate myself unto the Lord thy God.
31 Y volvió Samuel tras Saúl, y adoró Saúl al SEÑOR.
So Samuel returned, following Saul; and Saul prostrated himself to the Lord.
32 Después dijo Samuel: Traedme a Agag rey de Amalec. Y Agag vino a él delicadamente. Y dijo Agag: Ciertamente se acerca la amargura de la muerte.
And Samuel said, Bring ye hither unto me Agag the king of the 'Amalekites: and Agag came unto him cheerfully; and Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.
33 Y Samuel dijo: Como tu cuchillo dejó las mujeres sin hijos, así tu madre será sin hijo entre las mujeres. Entonces Samuel cortó en pedazos a Agag delante del SEÑOR en Gilgal.
And Samuel said, As thy sword did make women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women; and Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal.
34 Se fue luego Samuel a Ramá, y Saúl subió a su casa en Gabaa de Saúl.
Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house at Gib'ah of Saul.
35 Y nunca después vino Samuel a ver a Saúl en toda su vida; y Samuel lloraba a Saúl porque el SEÑOR se había arrepentido de haber puesto a Saúl por rey sobre Israel.
And Samuel did not see Saul any more until the day of his death; because Samuel mourned for Saul; and the Lord repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.
