1 Reyes 20
1 Entonces Ben-adad rey de Siria juntó a todo su ejército, y con él treinta y dos reyes, con caballos y carros: y subió, y puso cerco a Samaria, y la combatió.
And Ben-Hadad king of Syria assembled all his host; and there were thirty-two kings with him, and horses and chariots; and he went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.
2 Y envió mensajeros a la ciudad a Acab rey de Israel, diciendo:
And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city, and said to him, Thus says Ben-Hadad:
3 Así ha dicho Ben-adad: Tu plata y tu oro es mío, y tus mujeres y tus hijos hermosos son míos.
Thy silver and thy gold is mine; thy wives also and thy children, the goodliest, are mine.
4 Y el rey de Israel respondió, y dijo: Como tú dices, rey señor mío, yo soy tuyo, y todo lo que tengo.
And the king of Israel answered and said, My lord, O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I have.
5 Y volviendo los mensajeros otra vez, dijeron: Así dijo Ben-adad: Yo te envié a decir: Tu plata y tu oro, y tus mujeres y tus hijos me darás.
And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaks Ben-Hadad saying: I sent to thee indeed, saying, Thou shalt deliver me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;
6 Además mañana a estas horas enviaré yo a ti mis siervos, los cuales escudriñarán tu casa, y las casas de tus siervos; y tomarán con sus manos, y llevarán todo lo precioso que tuvieres.
but to-morrow about this time I will send my servants to thee, and they shall search thy house, and the houses of thy servants; and it shall be, that whatsoever is pleasant in thy sight, they shall put in their hand and take away.
7 Entonces el rey de Israel llamó a todos los ancianos de la tierra, y les dijo: Entended, y ved ahora cómo éste no busca sino mal; pues que ha enviado a mí por mis mujeres y mis hijos, y por mi plata y por mi oro; y yo no se lo he negado.
And the king of Israel called all the elders of the land and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this [man] seeks mischief; for he sent to me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I denied him not.
8 Y todos los ancianos y todo el pueblo le respondieron: No le oigas, ni hagas lo que te pide.
And all the elders and all the people said to him, Hearken not, nor consent.
9 Entonces él respondió a los embajadores de Ben-adad: Decid al rey mi señor: Haré todo lo que mandaste a tu siervo al principio; mas esto no lo puedo hacer. Y los embajadores fueron, y le dieron la respuesta.
And he said to the messengers of Ben-Hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didst send for to thy servant at the first I will do; but this thing I cannot do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.
10 Y Ben-adad tornó a enviarle a decir: Así me hagan los dioses, y así me añadan, que el polvo de Samaria no bastará a los puños de todo el pueblo que me sigue.
And Ben-Hadad sent to him and said, The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me!
11 Y el rey de Israel respondió, y dijo: Decidle, que no se alabe el que se ciñe, como el que ya se desciñe.
And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell [him], Let not him that girdeth on boast himself as he that putteth off!
12 Y cuando él oyó esta palabra, estando bebiendo con los reyes en las tiendas, dijo a sus siervos: Poned. Y ellos se pusieron contra la ciudad.
And it came to pass when he heard this word, as he was drinking, he and the kings in the tents, that he said to his servants, Set yourselves. And they set themselves against the city.
13 Y he aquí un profeta vino a Acab rey de Israel; y le dijo: Así ha dicho el SEÑOR: ¿Has visto esta gran multitud? He aquí yo te la entregaré hoy en tu mano, para que conozcas que yo soy el SEÑOR.
And behold, a prophet drew near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, Thus saith Jehovah: Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thy hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am Jehovah.
14 Y respondió Acab: ¿Por mano de quién? Y él dijo: Así dijo el SEÑOR: Por mano de los criados de los príncipes de las provincias. Y él tornó a decir: ¿Quién comenzará la batalla? Y él respondió: Tú.
And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus saith Jehovah: By the servants of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall begin the battle? And he said, Thou.
15 Entonces él reconoció los criados de los príncipes de las provincias, los cuales fueron doscientos treinta y dos. Luego reconoció todo el pueblo, todos los hijos de Israel, que fueron siete mil.
And he numbered the servants of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two; and after them he numbered all the people, all the children of Israel, seven thousand.
16 Y salieron a mediodía. Y estaba Ben-adad bebiendo, borracho en las tiendas, él y los reyes, los treinta y dos reyes que habían venido en su ayuda.
And they went out at noon; and Ben-Hadad drank himself drunk in the tents, he and the kings, the thirty-two kings that helped him.
17 Y los criados de los príncipes de las provincias salieron los primeros. Y Ben-adad había enviado quien le dio aviso, diciendo: Varones han salido de Samaria.
And the servants of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben-Hadad sent out, and they told him saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
18 El entonces dijo: Si han salido por paz, tomadlos vivos; y si han salido para pelear, tomadlos vivos.
And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive.
19 Salieron, pues, de la ciudad los criados de los príncipes de las provincias, y en pos de ellos el ejército.
And these servants of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army that followed them.
20 E hirió cada uno al que venía contra sí; y huyeron los sirios, siguiéndolos los de Israel. Y el rey de Siria, Ben-adad, se escapó en un caballo con alguna gente de caballería.
And they slew every one his man; and the Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them; and Ben-Hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with the horsemen.
21 Y salió el rey de Israel, e hirió la gente de a caballo, y los carros; y deshizo a los sirios con grande estrago.
And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.
22 Vino luego el profeta al rey de Israel y le dijo: Ve, fortalécete, y considera y mira lo que has de hacer; porque pasado el año, el rey de Siria ha de venir contra ti.
And the prophet drew near to the king of Israel, and said to him, Go, strengthen thyself, and understand, and see what thou shalt do; for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.
23 Y los siervos del rey de Siria le dijeron: Sus dioses son dioses de los montes, por eso nos han vencido; mas si peleáremos con ellos en la llanura, se verá si no los vencemos.
And the servants of the king of Syria said to him, Their gods are gods of the mountains; therefore they were stronger than we; but if we fight against them on the plateau, shall we not be stronger than they?
24 Haz pues así: Saca a los reyes cada uno de su puesto, y pon capitanes en lugar de ellos.
And do this: take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put governors in their stead;
25 Y tú, fórmate otro ejército como el ejército que perdiste, caballos por caballos, y carros por carros; luego pelearemos con ellos en campo raso, y veremos si no los vencemos. Y él les dio oído, y lo hizo así.
and number thee an army, like the army that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot; and we will fight against them on the plateau: shall we not be stronger than they? And he hearkened to their voice, and did so.
26 Pasado el año, Ben-adad reconoció los sirios, y vino a Afec a pelear contra Israel.
And it came to pass, at the return of the year, that Ben-Hadad numbered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.
27 Y los hijos de Israel fueron también reconocidos ( contados ), y tomando provisiones les fueron al encuentro; y asentaron campo los hijos de Israel delante de ellos, como dos rebañuelos de cabras; y los sirios llenaban la tierra.
And the children of Israel were numbered and victualled, and they went against them; and the children of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of goats; but the Syrians filled the land.
28 Vino entonces el varón de Dios al rey de Israel y le habló diciendo: Así dijo el SEÑOR: Por cuanto los sirios han dicho, el SEÑOR es Dios de los montes, no Dios de los valles, yo entregaré toda esta gran multitud en tu mano, para que conozcáis que yo soy el SEÑOR.
And the man of God drew near, and spoke to the king of Israel and said, Thus saith Jehovah: Because the Syrians have said, Jehovah is a god of the mountains, but he is not a god of the valleys, I will give all this great multitude into thy hand, and ye shall know that I am Jehovah.
29 Siete días tuvieron asentado campamento los unos delante de los otros, y al séptimo día se dio la batalla; y mataron los hijos de Israel de los sirios en un día cien mil hombres de a pie.
And they encamped one over against the other seven days; and it came to pass that on the seventh day the battle was joined; and the children of Israel smote of the Syrians a hundred thousand footmen in one day.
30 Los demás huyeron a Afec, a la ciudad; y el muro cayó sobre veintisiete mil hombres que habían quedado. También Ben-adad vino huyendo a la ciudad, y se escondía de cámara en cámara.
And the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men of them that were left. And Ben-Hadad fled, and came into the city, [from] chamber to chamber.
31 Entonces sus siervos le dijeron: He aquí, hemos oído de los reyes de Israel, que son reyes clementes; pongamos pues ahora sacos en nuestros lomos, y sogas en nuestras cabezas, y salgamos al rey de Israel; por ventura te dará la vida.
And his servants said to him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel; perhaps he will save thy life.
32 Ciñeron pues sus lomos de sacos, y sogas a sus cabezas, y vinieron al rey de Israel, y le dijeron: Tu siervo Ben-adad dice: Te ruego que viva mi alma. Y él respondió: Si él vive aún, mi hermano es.
And they girded sackcloth on their loins, and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben-Hadad says, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.
33 Esto tomaron aquellos hombres por buen agüero, y presto tomaron esta palabra de su boca, y dijeron: ¡Tu hermano Ben-adad! Y él dijo: Id, y traedle. Ben-adad entonces se presentó al rey de Israel, y él le hizo subir en un carro.
And the men took it as a good omen, and hastened to catch what came from him, and they said, Thy brother Ben-Hadad. ...And he said, Go, bring him. And Ben-Hadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
34 Y le dijo Ben-adad: Las ciudades que mi padre tomó al tuyo, yo las restituiré; y haz plazas en Damasco para ti, como mi padre las hizo en Samaria; y yo me partiré de ti confederado. Y el rey de Israel hizo con él alianza, y lo envió.
And [Ben-Hadad] said to him, The cities that my father took from thy father I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thyself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. And I [said Ahab] will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.
35 Entonces un varón de los hijos de los profetas dijo a su compañero por palabra de Dios: Hiéreme ahora. Mas el otro varón no quiso herirle.
And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said to another by the word of Jehovah, Smite me, I pray thee. But the man refused to smite him.
36 Y él le dijo: Por cuanto no has escuchado la palabra del SEÑOR, he aquí en apartándote de mí, te herirá un león. Y cuando se apartó de él, le topó un león, y le hirió.
Then said he to him, Because thou hast not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, behold, when thou departest from me, the lion will slay thee. And when he had departed from him, the lion found him and slew him.
37 Luego se encontró con otro varón, y le dijo: Hiéreme ahora. Y el hombre le dio un golpe, y le hizo una herida.
Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him violently, and wounded [him].
38 Y el profeta se fue, y se puso delante del rey en el camino, y se disfrazó con un velo sobre los ojos.
And the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with a sash over his eyes.
39 Y cuando el rey pasaba, él dio voces al rey, y dijo: Tu siervo salió entre la tropa; y he aquí apartándose uno, me trajo un hombre, diciendo: Guarda a este hombre, y si llegare a faltar, tu vida será por la suya, o pagarás un talento de plata.
And as the king passed by, he cried to the king and said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man to me and said, Keep this man; if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or thou shalt pay a talent of silver.
40 Y cuando tu siervo estaba ocupado a una parte y a otra, él desapareció. Entonces el rey de Israel le dijo: Esa será tu sentencia; tú la has pronunciado.
And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said to him, So [is] thy judgment: thyself hast decided [it].
41 Entonces él se quitó presto el velo de sobre sus ojos, y el rey de Israel conoció que era de los profetas.
Then he hastily took the sash away from his face; and the king of Israel discerned him, that he was of the prophets.
42 Y él le dijo: Así dijo el SEÑOR: Por cuanto soltaste de la mano del varón de mi anatema, tu vida será por la suya, y tu pueblo por el suyo.
And he said to him, Thus saith Jehovah: Because thou hast let go out of thy hand the man that I had devoted to destruction, thy life shall be for his life, and thy people for his people.
43 Y el rey de Israel se fue a su casa triste y enojado, y llegó a Samaria.
And the king of Israel went to his house sullen and vexed, and came to Samaria.
