San Lucas 3
1 Y EN el año quince del imperio de Tiberio César, siendo gobernador de Judéa Poncio Pilato, y Heródes tetrarca de Galiléa, y su hermano Felipe tetrarca de Ituréa y de la provincia de Traconite, y Lisanias tetrarca de Abilinia,
Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
2 Siendo sumos sacerdotes Anás y Caifás, vino palabra del Señor sobre Juan, hijo de Zacarías, en el desierto.
when Annas and Caiaphas were high-priests, the word of God came to John, the son of Zachariah, in the wilderness.
3 Y él vino por toda la tierra alrededor del Jordan, predicando el bautismo de arrepentimiento para la remision de pecados;
And he came into all the country about the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
4 Como está escrito en el libro de las palabras del profeta Isaías que dice: Voz del que clama en el desierto: Aparejad el camino del Señor, haced derechas sus sendas.
as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths!
5 Todo valle se henchirá, y bajaráse todo monte y collado; y los [caminos] torcidos serán enderezados, y los caminos ásperos allanados;
Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked places shall be made straight, and the rough ways smooth;
6 Y verá toda carne la salvacion de Dios.
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
7 Y decia á las gentes que salian para ser bautizados de él: Oh generacion de víboras, ¿quién os enseñó á huir de la ira que vendrá?
He said therefore to the multitudes that came forth to be baptized by him, Brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
8 Haced, pues, frutos dignos de arrepentimiento, y no comenceis á decir en vosotros mismos: Tenemos á Abraham por padre: porque os digo que puede Dios, aun de estas piedras, levantar hijos á Abraham.
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance; and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able out of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.
9 Y ya tambien el hacha está puesta á la raiz de los árboles: todo árbol pues que no hace buen fruto, es cortado, y echado en el fuego.
And already also is the axe lying at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that beareth not good fruit is to be cut down, and cast into the fire.
10 Y las gentes le preguntaban, diciendo: ¿Pues qué haremos?
And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then must we do?
11 Y respondiendo, les dijo: El que tiene dos túnicas, dé al que no tiene; y el que tiene qué comer, haga lo mismo.
He answered and said to them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath food, let him do likewise.
12 Y vinieron tambien publicanos para ser bautizados, y le dijeron: ¿Maestro, qué harémos?
And there came also publicans to be baptized, and said to him, Teacher, what must we do?
13 Y él les dijo: No exijais mas de lo que os está ordenado.
And he said to them, Exact no more than hath been ordered you.
14 Y le preguntaron tambien los soldados, diciendo: Y nosotros, ¿qué harémos? Y les dice: No hagais extorsion á nadie, ni calumnieis; y contentáos con vuestras pagas.
And soldiers also asked him, saying, And what must we do? And he said to them, Do violence to no one, accuse no one falsely, and be content with your wages.
15 Y estando el pueblo esperando, y pensando todos de Juan en sus corazones, si él fuese el Cristo,
And while the people were in expectation, and all were considering in their hearts concerning John, whether he were the Christ,
16 Respondió Juan, diciendo á todos: Yo, á la verdad, os bautizo en agua; mas viene quien es más poderoso que yo, de quien no soy digno de desatar la corréa de sus zapatos: el os bautizará en Espíritu Santo y fuego;
John answered and said to them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but he who is mightier than I is coming, the latchet of whose sandals I am not worthy to loose; he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire.
17 Cuyo bieldo [está] en su mano, y limpiará su era y juntará el trigo en su alfolí, y la paja quemará en fuego que nunca se apagará.
His winnowing-shovel is in his hand to thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor, and gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
18 Y amonestando, otras muchas cosas tambien anunciaba al pueblo.
And giving many other exhortations he published the glad tidings to the people.
19 Entónces Heródes el tetrarca, siendo reprendido por él á causa de Herodías, mujer de Felipe su hermano, y de todas las maldades que habia hecho Heródes,
But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him on account of Herodias the wife of his brother, and on account of all the evil deeds which Herod had done,
20 Añadió tambien esto sobre todo, que encerró á Juan en la cárcel:
added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.
21 Y aconteció que, como todo él pueblo se bautizaba, tambien Jesus fuese bautizado; y orando, el cielo se abrió,
And it came to pass, when all the people had been baptized, and Jesus also had been baptized, and was praying, that the heaven was opened,
22 Y descendió el Espíritu Santo sobre él en forma corporal, como paloma, y fué hecha una voz del cielo que decia: Tú eres mi Hijo amado, en tí me he complacido.
and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in a bodily shape as a dove; and a voice came from heaven: “Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased.”
23 Y el mismo Jesus comenzaba á ser como de treinta años hijo de José, como se creia, que fué hijo de Elí,
And Jesus himself was, when he began, about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, who was the son of Heli,
24 Que fué de Matat, que fué de Leví, que fué de Melqui, que fué de Janne, que fué de José,
who was the son of Matthath, who was the son of Levi, who was the son of Melchi, who was the son of Jannai, who was the son of Joseph,
25 Que fué de Matatías, que fué de Amós, que fué de Nahum, que fué de Eslai, que fué de Naggai,
who was the son of Mattathias, who was the son of Amos, who was the son of Nahum, who was the son of Esli, who was the son of Naggai,
26 Que fué de Maat, que fué de Matatías, que fué de Semei, que fue de José, que fué de Júdas,
who was the son of Maath, who was the son of Mattathias, who was the son of Shimei, who was the son of Josech, who was the son of Joda,
27 Que fué de Joana, que fué de Resa, que fué de Zorobabel, que fué de Salathiel, que fué de Neri,
who was the son of Joanan, who was the son of Rhesa, who was the son of Zerubbabel, who was the son of Shealtiel, who was the son of Neri,
28 Que fué de Melqui, que fué de Addi, que fué de Cosam, que fué de Elmodam, que fué de Er,
who was the son of Melchi, who was the son of Addi, who was the son of Kosam, who was the son of Elmadam, who was the son of Er,
29 Que fué de Josue, que fué de Elieser, que fué de Jorim, que fué de Matat, que fué de Leví,
who was the son of Jesus, who was the son of Eliezer, who was the son of Jorim, who was the son of Matthath, who was the son of Levi,
30 Que fué de Simeon, que fué de Judá, que fué de José, que fué de Jonan, que fué de Eliaquim,
who was the son of Simeon, who was the son of Judah, who was the son of Joseph, who was the son of Jonam, who was the son of Eliakim,
31 Que fué de Meléas, que fué de Menan, que fué de Matata, que fué de Nathan, que fué de David,
who was the son of Melea, who was the son of Menna, who was the son of Mattatha, who was the son of Nathan, who was the son of David,
32 Que fué de Jessé, que fab de Obed, que fué de Booz, que fué de Salmon, que fué de Naason,
who was the son of Jesse, who was the son of Obed, who was the son of Boaz, who was the son of Salma, who was the son of Nahshon,
33 Que fué de Aminadab, que fué de Aram, que fué de Esrom, que fué de Pháres, que fué de Judá,
who was the son of Amminadab, who was the son of Admin, who was the son of Arni, who was the son of Hezron, who was the son of Pharez, who was the son of Judah,
34 Que fué de Jacob, que fué de Isaac, que fué de Abraham, que fué de Tara, que fué de Nacor,
who was the son of Jacob, who was the son of Isaac, who was the son of Abraham, who was the son of Terah, who was the son of Nahor,
35 Que fué de Saruch, que fué de Ragau, que fué de Falec, que fué de Heber, que fué de Sala,
who was the son of Serug, who was the son of Reu, who was the son of Peleg, who was the son of Eber, who was the son of Shelah,
36 Que fué de Cainan, que fué de Arfaxad, que fué de Sem, que fué de Noé, que fué de Lamech,
who was the son of Cainan, who was the son of Arphaxad, who was the son of Shem, who was the son of Noah, who was the son of Lamech,
37 Que fué de Matusalá, que fué de Enoc, que fué de Jared, que fué de Malaleel, que fué de Cainan,
who was the son of Methuselah, who was the son of Enoch, who was the son of Jared, who was the son of Mahalaleel, who was the son of Cainan,
38 Que fué de Enós, que fué de Seth, que fué de Adam, que fué de Dios.
who was the son of Enos, who was the son of Seth, who was the son of Adam, who was the son of God.
