1 Timoteo 5
1 NO reprendas al anciano, sino exhórta[le] como á padre: á los mas jóvenes, como á hermanos;
Do not chide a senior, but exhort him as a father; and younger men as brethren:
2 A las ancianas, como á madres; á las jovencitas, como á hermanas, con toda pureza.
the elder women as mothers, the younger as sisters, with all purity.
3 Honra á las viudas que en verdad son viudas.
Honour widows who are widows indeed.
4 Pero si alguna viuda tuviere hijos, ó nietos, aprendan primero á gobernar su casa piadosamente, y á recompensar á sus padres: porque esto es lo honesto y agradable delante de Dios.
But if any widow have children or grandchildren, let these learn first to shew piety at home, and to make suitable returns to their parents: for this is becoming, and acceptable in the sight of God.
5 Ahora la que en verdad es viuda y solitaria, espera en Dios, y es diligente en suplicaciones y oraciones noche y dia.
Now she, that is really a widow and desolate, hopeth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.
6 Pero la que vive en delicias, viviendo está muerta.
But she that indulgeth to luxury, is dead while she liveth.
7 Denuncia pues estas cosas, para que sean sin reprension.
These things give in charge, that they may be blameless.
8 Y si alguno no tiene cuidado de los suyos, y mayormente de los de su casa la fé negó, y es peor que un infiel.
But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own family, he hath renounced the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
9 La viuda sea puesta en [especial] clase no ménos que de sesenta años: que haya sido esposa de un [solo] marido;
Let not a widow be chosen into the number under sixty years old,
10 Que tenga testimonio en buenas obras; si crió [bien sus] hijos; si ha ejercitado la hospitalidad; si ha lavado los piés de los santos; si ha socorrido á los afligidos; si ha seguido toda buena obra.
having been the wife of one man: in repute for good actions, if she have educated children, if she have entertained strangers, if she have washed the feet of saints, if she have relieved the afflicted, and diligently followed every good work.
11 Pero viudas más jóvenes no admitas; porque despues de hacerse licenciosas contra Cristo, quieren casarse:
But the younger widows refuse: for when they grow wanton against Christ, they will needs marry:
12 Condenadas ya, por haber falseado la primera fé.
and are therefore to be condemned, because they violate their first faith.
13 Y aun tambien se acostumbran, [hechas] ociosas, á andar de casa en casa; y no solamente ociosas, sino tambien parleras y curiosas, hablando lo que no conviene.
And withal being idle they learn to go about from house to house: and are not only idle, but tatlers also and busy-bodies, talking of things unbecoming them.
14 Quiero, pues, que las que son jóvenes se casen, crien hijos, gobiernen la casa; que ninguna ocasion den al adversario para maldecir.
I would therefore have the younger widows marry, bear children, manage houshold affairs, and give no occasion to the adversary for reproach.
15 Porque ya algunas han vuelto atrás en pos de Satanás.
For some are already turned aside after Satan.
16 Si algun fiel ó alguna fiel tiene viudas, manténgalas, y no sea gravada la iglesia; á fin de que haya lo suficiente para las que de verdad son viudas.
And if any believer have relations widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be burdened; that it may relieve those that are indeed widows and desolate.
17 Los ancianos que gobiernan bien, sean tenidos por dignos de doblada honra; mayormente los que trabajan en predicar y enseñar.
Let the elders, who preside well, be counted worthy of double honor, especially those that labour in preaching and teaching.
18 Porque la escritura dice: No embozarás al buey que trilla. Y: Digno [es] el obrero de su jornal.
For the scripture saith, "Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn:" and, "The workman is worthy of his hire."
19 Contra el anciano no recibas acusacion sino con dos ó tres testigos.
Receive not an accusation against an elder, unless from two or three witnesses.
20 A los que pecaren, repréndelos delante de todos, para que los otros tambien teman.
Those that offend reprove before all, that others also may fear.
21 [Te] requiero delante de Dios y del Señor Jesu-Cristo, y de sus ángeles escogidos, que guardes estas cosas sin perjuicio de nadie, que nada hagas inclinándote á la una parte.
I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou keep to these things without preference of persons, doing nothing with partiality.
22 No impongas de ligero las manos á alguno, ni comuniques en pecados ajenos: consérvate en limpieza.
Lay hands on no man precipitately, and be not hereby a partaker in the sins of others. Keep thyself pure.
23 No bebas de aquí adelante agua, sino usa de un poco de vino por causa del estómago, y de tus contínuas enfermedades.
Drink no longer water only, but use a little wine with it, for the sake of thy stomach and thy frequent infirmities.
24 Los pecados de algunos hombres, ántes que vengan [ellos] á juicio, son manifiestos; mas á otros les vienen despues.
The sins of some men are notorious, leading as it were to their condemnation; and some more artful they follow after.
25 Asimismo las buenas obras ántes son manifiestas; y las que son de otra manera, no pueden esconderse.
So also the good works of some are manifest; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.
