< Proverbios 19 >
1 MEJOR es el pobre que camina en su sencillez, que el de perversos labios y fatuo.
2 El alma sin ciencia no es buena; y el presuroso de pies peca.
3 La insensatez del hombre tuerce su camino; y contra Jehová se aira su corazón.
The folly of a man spoils his ways: and he blames God in his heart.
4 Las riquezas allegan muchos amigos: mas el pobre, de su amigo es apartado.
Wealth acquires many friends; but the poor is deserted even of the friend he has.
5 El testigo falso no quedará sin castigo; y el que habla mentiras no escapará.
A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that accuses unjustly shall not escape.
6 Muchos rogarán al príncipe: mas cada uno es amigo del hombre que da.
Many court the favor of kings; but every bad man becomes a reproach to [another] man.
7 Todos los hermanos del pobre le aborrecen: ¡cuánto más sus amigos se alejarán de él! buscará la palabra y no la hallará.
Every one who hates [his] poor brother shall also be far from friendship. Good understanding will draw near to them that know it, and a sensible man will find it. He that does much harm perfects mischief; and he that used provoking words shall not escape.
8 El que posee entendimiento, ama su alma: el que guarda la inteligencia, hallará el bien.
He that procures wisdom loves himself; and he that keeps wisdom shall find good.
9 El testigo falso no quedará sin castigo; y el que habla mentiras, perecerá.
A false witness shall not be unpunished; and whoever shall kindle mischief shall perish by it.
10 No conviene al necio el deleite: ¡cuánto menos al siervo ser señor de los príncipes!
Delight does not suit a fool, nor [is it seemly] if a servant should begin to rule with haughtiness.
11 La cordura del hombre detiene su furor; y su honra es disimular la ofensa.
A merciful man is longsuffering; and his triumph overtakes transgressors.
12 Como el bramido del cachorro de león es la ira del rey; y su favor como el rocío sobre la hierba.
The threatening of a king is like the roaring of a lion; but as dew on the grass, so is his favor.
13 Dolor es para su padre el hijo necio; y gotera continua las contiendas de la mujer.
A foolish son is a disgrace to his father: vows [paid out] of the hire of a harlot are not pure.
14 La casa y las riquezas herencia son de los padres: mas de Jehová la mujer prudente.
Fathers divide house and substance to [their] children: but a wife is suited to a man by the Lord.
15 La pereza hace caer en sueño; y el alma negligente hambreará.
Cowardice possesses the effeminate [man]; and the soul of the sluggard shall hunger.
16 El que guarda el mandamiento, guarda su alma: mas el que menospreciare sus caminos, morirá.
He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul; but he that despises his ways shall perish.
17 A Jehová empresta el que da al pobre, y él le dará su paga.
He that has pity on the poor lends to the Lord; and he will recompense to him according to his gift.
18 Castiga á tu hijo en tanto que hay esperanza; mas no se excite tu alma para destruirlo.
Chasten your son, for so he shall be hopeful; and be not exalted in your soul to haughtiness.
19 El de grande ira llevará la pena: y si usa de violencias, añadirá [nuevos males].
A malicious man shall be severely punished, and if he commit injury, he shall also lose his life.
20 Escucha el consejo, y recibe la corrección, para que seas sabio en tu vejez.
Hear, son, the instruction of your father, that you may be wise at your latter end.
21 Muchos pensamientos hay en el corazón del hombre; mas el consejo de Jehová permanecerá.
[There are] many thoughts in a man's heart; but the counsel of the Lord abides for ever.
22 Contentamiento es á los hombres hacer misericordia: pero mejor es el pobre que el mentiroso.
Mercy is a fruit to a man: and a poor man is better than a rich liar.
23 El temor de Jehová [es] para vida; y [con él] vivirá el [hombre], lleno de reposo; no será visitado de mal.
The fear of the Lord is life to a man: and he shall lodge without fear in places where knowledge is not seen.
24 El perezoso esconde su mano en el seno: aun á su boca no la llevará.
He that unjustly hides his hands in his bosom, will not even [bring] them up to his mouth.
25 Hiere al escarnecedor, y el simple se hará avisado; y corrigiendo al entendido, entenderá ciencia.
When a pestilent character is scourged, a simple man is made wiser: and if you reprove a wise man, he will understand discretion.
26 El que roba á su padre y ahuyenta á su madre, hijo es avergonzador y deshonrador.
He that dishonors his father, and drives away his mother, shall be disgraced and shall be exposed to reproach.
27 Cesa, hijo mío, de oir la enseñanza [que induce] á divagar de las razones de sabiduría.
A son who ceases to attend to the instruction of a father will cherish evil designs.
28 El testigo perverso se burlará del juicio; y la boca de los impíos encubrirá la iniquidad.
He that becomes surety for a foolish child will despise the ordinance: and the mouth of ungodly men shall drink down judgment.
29 Aparejados están juicios para los escarnecedores, y azotes para los cuerpos de los insensatos.
Scourges are preparing for the intemperate, and punishments likewise for fools.
