Rut 1
1 Y aconteció en los días que gobernaban los jueces, que hubo hambre en la tierra. Y un varón de Belén de Judá fue a peregrinar en los campos de Moab, él y su mujer y dos hijos suyos.
In the time when the judges ruled, there was once a famine in the land. A man from Bethlehem in Judah took his wife and two sons to live in the territory of Moab.
2 El nombre de aquel varón era Elimelec, y el de su mujer era Noemí: y los nombres de sus dos hijos eran Majalón, y Quelión: eran Efrateos de Belén de Judá; y llegando a los campos de Moab asentaron allí.
His name was Elimelech and his wife’s was Naomi, and his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem in Judah. After they had been living in Moab for some time,
3 Y Elimelec el marido de Noemí murió, y quedó ella con sus dos hijos:
Elimelech died, and Naomi was left with her two sons,
4 Los cuales tomaron para sí mujeres de Moab, el nombre de la una fue Orpa, y el nombre de la otra fue Rut, y habitaron allí como diez años.
who married Moabite women named Orpah and Ruth. After they had lived there about ten years,
5 Y murieron también los dos, Majalón, y Quelión, y la mujer quedó desamparada de sus dos hijos y de su marido.
Mahlon and Chilion both died, and Naomi was left alone, without husband or sons.
6 Y levantóse con sus nueras, y volvióse de los campos de Moab: porque oyó en el campo de Moab que Jehová había visitado su pueblo para darles pan.
So she set out with her daughters-in-law to return from the land of Moab, for she had heard that the Lord had remembered his people and given them food.
7 Salió pues del lugar donde había estado, y con ella sus dos nueras, y comenzaron a caminar para volverse a la tierra de Judá.
As they were setting out together on the journey to Judah,
8 Y Noemí dijo a sus dos nueras: Andád, volvéos cada una a la casa de su madre, Jehová haga con vosotras misericordia, como la habéis hecho con los muertos, y conmigo.
Naomi said to her daughters-in-law, “Go, return both of you to the home of your mother. May the Lord be kind to you as you have been kind to the dead and to me.
9 Déos Jehová que halléis descanso, cada una en casa de su marido: y besólas: y ellas lloraron a alta voz.
The Lord grant that each of you may find peace and happiness in the house of a new husband.” Then she kissed them; but they began to weep aloud
10 Y dijéronle: Ciertamente nosotras volveremos contigo a tu pueblo.
and said to her, “No, we will return with you to your people.”
11 Y Noemí respondió: Volvéos hijas mías: ¿para qué habéis de ir conmigo? ¿Tengo yo más hijos en el vientre que puedan ser vuestros maridos?
But Naomi said, “Go back, my daughters. Why should you go with me? Can I still bear sons who might become your husbands?
12 Volvéos, hijas mías, e idos, que ya yo soy vieja, para ser para varón. Y aunque dijese: Esperanza tengo, y aunque esta noche fuese con varón, y aun pariese hijos,
Go back, my daughters, go your own way, because I am too old to have a husband. Even if I should say, ‘I have hope,’ even if I should have a husband tonight and should bear sons,
13 ¿Habíais vosotras de esperarlos hasta que fuesen grandes? ¿habíais vosotras de quedaros sin casar por amor de ellos? No, hijas mías; que mayor amargura tengo yo que vosotras, porque la mano de Jehová ha salido contra mí.
would you wait for them until they were grown up? Would you remain single for them? No, my daughters! My heart grieves for you, for the Lord has sent me adversity.”
14 Mas ellas alzando otra vez su voz, lloraron: y Orpa besó a su suegra, y Rut se quedó con ella.
Then they again wept aloud, and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law goodbye, but Ruth stayed with her.
15 Y ella dijo: He aquí, tu cuñada se ha vuelto a su pueblo, y a sus dioses, vuélvete tú tras de ella.
“Look,” said Naomi, “your sister-in-law is going back to her own people and to her own gods. Go along with her!”
16 Y Rut respondió: No me ruegues que te deje, y me aparte de ti; porque donde quiera que tú fueres, iré: y donde quiera que vivieres, viviré. Tu pueblo, mi pueblo: y tu Dios, mi Dios.
But Ruth answered, “Do not urge me to leave you or to go back. I will go where you go, and I will stay wherever you stay. Your people will be my people, and your God my God;
17 Donde tú murieres moriré yo, y allí seré sepultada: así me haga Jehová, y así me dé, que sola la muerte hará separación entre mí y ti.
I will die where you die, and be buried there. May the Lord bring a curse upon me, if anything but death separate you and me.”
18 Y viendo ella que estaba tan obstinada para ir con ella, dejó de hablarla.
When Naomi saw that Ruth was determined to go with her, she ceased urging her to return.
19 Anduvieron pues ellas dos, hasta que llegaron a Belén: y aconteció que entrando ellas en Belén, toda la ciudad se conmovió por ellas, y decían: ¿No es ésta Noemí?
So they journeyed on until they came to Bethlehem. Their arrival stirred the whole town, and the women said, “Can this be Naomi?”
20 Y ella les respondía: No me llaméis Noemí, mas llamádme Mara, porque en grande manera me ha amargado el Todopoderoso.
“Do not call me Naomi,” she said to them, “call me Mara, for the Almighty has given me a bitter lot.
21 Yo me fui de aquí llena, mas vacía me ha vuelto Jehová. ¿Por qué, pues, me llamaréis Noemí, pues que Jehová me ha oprimido, y el Todopoderoso me ha afligido?
I had plenty when I left, but the Lord has brought me back empty handed. Why should you call me Naomi, now that the Lord has afflicted me, and the Almighty has brought misfortune on me?”
22 Y así volvió Noemí y Rut Moabita su nuera con ella; volvió de los campos de Moab, y llegaron a Belén en el principio de la siega de las cebadas.
So Naomi and Ruth, her Moabite daughter-in-law, returned from Moab. They reached Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley harvest.
