Salmos 49
1 Oíd esto todos los pueblos: escuchád todos los habitadores del mundo:
“For the leader of the music. A psalm of the sons of Korah.” Hear this, all ye nations; Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world;
2 Así los hijos de los hombres como los hijos de los varones: juntamente el rico y el pobre.
Both high and low, rich and poor alike!
3 Mi boca hablará sabidurías: y el pensamiento de mi corazón inteligencias.
My mouth shall speak wisdom, And the meditation of my mind shall be understanding.
4 Acomodaré a ejemplos mi oído: declararé con la arpa mi enigma.
I will incline mine ear to a poem; I will utter my song upon the harp.
5 ¿Por qué temeré en los días de adversidad, cuando la iniquidad de mis calcañares me cercará?
Why should I fear in the days of adversity, When the iniquity of my adversaries encompasseth me;
6 Los que confían en sus haciendas, y en la multitud de sus riquezas se jactan;
They who trust in their riches, And glory in the greatness of their wealth?
7 Ninguno redimiendo redimirá al hermano: ni dará a Dios su rescate.
No one can redeem his brother from death, Nor give a ransom for him to God,
8 Porque la redención de su alma es de gran precio: y no se hará jamás,
That he should live to eternity, And not see the pit.
9 Que viva adelante para siempre: y nunca vea la sepultura.
Too costly is the redemption of his life, And he giveth it up for ever.
10 Porque se ve que los sabios mueren juntamente: el insensato y el ignorante perecen, y dejan a otros sus riquezas.
For he seeth that wise men die, As well as the foolish and the ignorant; They perish alike, And leave their wealth to others.
11 En su íntimo piensan que sus casas son eternas: sus habitaciones para generación y generación: llamaron sus tierras de sus nombres.
They imagine that their houses will endure for ever, And their dwelling-places from generation to generation: Men celebrate their names on the earth.
12 Mas el hombre no permanecerá en honra: es semejante a las bestias que mueren.
Yet man, who is in honor, abideth not; He is like the beasts that perish.
13 Este es su camino, su locura: y sus descendientes corren por el dicho de ellos. (Selah)
Such is the way which is their confidence! And they who come after them approve their maxims. (Pause)
14 Como ovejas son puestos en la sepultura, la muerte los pastorea; y los rectos se enseñorearon de ellos por la mañana: y su apariencia se envejece en la sepultura de su morada. (Sheol h7585)
Like sheep they are cast into the underworld; Death shall feed upon them; And the upright shall soon trample upon them. Their form shall be consumed in the underworld, And they shall no more have a dwelling-place. (Sheol h7585)
15 Ciertamente Dios redimirá mi vida del poder de la sepultura, cuando me tomará. (Selah) (Sheol h7585)
But God will redeem my life from the underworld; Yea, he will take me under his care. (Pause) (Sheol h7585)
16 No temas cuando se enriquece alguno: cuando aumenta la gloria de su casa.
Be not thou afraid, when one becometh rich; When the glory of his house is increased!
17 Porque en su muerte no tomará nada: ni su gloria descenderá en pos de él.
For, when he dieth, he will carry nothing away; His glory will not descend after him.
18 Porque mientras viviere, será su vida bendita: y tú serás loado cuando fueres bueno.
Though in his life he thought himself happy, —Though men praised thee, while thou wast in prosperity, —
19 El entrará a la generación de sus padres: para siempre no verán luz.
Yet shalt thou go to the dwelling-place of thy fathers, Who never more shall see the light!
20 El hombre en honra que no entiende, semejante es a las bestias que mueren.
The man who is in honor, but without understanding, Is like the beasts that perish.
