Proverbios 4
1 Oíd hijos la enseñanza del padre; y estád atentos, para que sepáis inteligencia.
Hear, ye sons, the correction of a father, and attend, that ye may know understanding.
2 Porque os doy buen enseñamiento: no desamparéis mi ley.
For, good teaching, have I given you, mine instruction, do not ye forsake.
3 Porque yo fui hijo de mi padre, delicado y único delante de mi madre:
For, a son, became I to my father, tender and most precious in the sight of my mother.
4 Y enseñábame, y me decía: Sustente mis razones tu corazón: guarda mis mandamientos, y vivirás.
So he taught me, and said to me—Let thy heart, lay hold of my words, Keep my commandments and live!
5 Adquiere sabiduría, adquiere inteligencia: no te olvides, ni te apartes de las razones de mi boca.
Acquire wisdom, acquire understanding, Do not forget, neither decline thou from the sayings of my mouth.
6 No la dejes, y ella te guardará; ámala, y conservarte ha.
Do not forsake her, and she will guard thee, —love her and she will keep thee.
7 Primeramente sabiduría: adquiere sabiduría, y ante toda tu posesión adquiere inteligencia.
The principal thing, is wisdom, acquire thou wisdom, With all thine acquisition, acquire thou understanding.
8 Engrandécela, y ella te engrandecerá; ella te honrará, cuando tú la hubieres abrazado.
Exalt her, and she will set thee on high, she will bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her:
9 Dará a tu cabeza aumento de gracia: corona de hermosura te entregará.
She will give for thy head, a wreath of beauty, A crown of adorning, will she bestow upon thee.
10 Oye, hijo mío, y recibe mis razones; y multiplicársete han años de vida.
Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and they will multiply to thee the years of life.
11 Por el camino de la sabiduría te he encaminado; y por veredas derechas te he hecho andar.
In the way of wisdom, have I taught thee, I have guided thee in tracks of uprightness.
12 Cuando por ellas anduvieres, no se estrecharán tus pasos; y si corrieres, no tropezarás.
When thou walkest, thy step shall not be hemmed in, and, if thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
13 Ten asida la instrucción, no la dejes: guárdala, porque ella es tu vida.
Take fast hold of correction, let her not go, —keep her, for, she, is thy life.
14 No entres por la vereda de los impíos: ni vayas por el camino de los malos:
Upon the path of the lawless, do not thou enter, and do not advance in the way of the wicked:
15 Desampárala; no pases por ella: apártate de ella, y pasa.
Avoid it, do not pass thereon—turn from it, and depart.
16 Porque no duermen, si no hicieren mal; y pierden su sueño, si no han hecho caer.
For they sleep not, unless they can do mischief, —They rob themselves of their sleep, if they cannot cause someone to stumble,
17 Porque comen pan de maldad, y beben vino de robos.
For they consume bread gotten by lawlessness, and, wine obtained by violence, they drink.
18 Mas la vereda de los justos es como la luz del lucero: auméntase, y alumbra hasta que el día es perfecto.
But, the path of the righteous, is as the light of dawn, —going on and brightening, unto meridian day.
19 El camino de los impíos es como la oscuridad: no saben en qué tropiezan.
The way of the lawless, is like darkness, they know not, at what they stumble.
20 Hijo mío, está atento a mis palabras; y a mis razones inclina tu oreja:
My son, to my words, attend, to my sayings, incline thou thine ear;
21 No se aparten de tus ojos: mas guárdalas en medio de tu corazón;
Let them not depart from thine eyes, keep them in the midst of thy heart;
22 Porque son vida a los que las hallan; y medicina a toda su carne.
For, life, they are, to them who find them, —and, to every part of one’s flesh, they bring healing.
23 Sobre toda cosa guardada, guarda tu corazón; porque de él mana la vida.
Above all that must be guarded, keep thou thy heart, for, out of it, are the issues of life.
24 Aparta de ti la perversidad de la boca; y la iniquidad de labios aleja de ti.
Remove from thee, perverseness of mouth, and, craftiness of lips, put far from thee.
25 Tus ojos miren lo recto; y tus párpados enderecen tu camino delante de ti.
Let, thine eyes, right onward, look, —and, thine eyelashes, point straight before thee.
26 Pesa la vereda de tus pies; y todos tus caminos sean ordenados.
Make level the track of thy foot, that, all thy ways, may be directed aright:
27 No te apartes a diestra, ni a siniestra: aparta tu pie del mal.
Decline not, to the right hand or to the left, —Turn away thy foot from wickedness.
