Proverbios 24
1 No tengas envidia de los hombres malos: ni desees estar con ellos.
Don't be jealous of evil people; don't long to spend time with them,
2 Porque su corazón piensa en robar; e iniquidad hablan sus labios.
for they think up cruel plans and discuss how to cause trouble.
3 Con sabiduría se edificará la casa; y con prudencia se afirmará.
A house is built by wisdom; its foundation is made secure through understanding.
4 Y con ciencia las cámaras se henchirán de todas riquezas preciosas y hermosas.
Its rooms are filled by knowledge with all kinds of valuable and beautiful objects.
5 El hombre sabio es fuerte; y el hombre entendido es valiente de fuerza.
If you have wisdom, you are strong; if you have knowledge, your power increases,
6 Porque con industrias harás la guerra; y la salud está en la multitud de los consejeros.
for with wise guidance you can go to war; you will be victorious by having many good advisors.
7 Alta está para el insensato la sabiduría: en la puerta no abrirá su boca.
Wisdom goes over the heads of stupid people; they have nothing to contribute when important matters are discussed.
8 Al que piensa mal hacer, al tal, hombre de malos pensamientos le llamarán.
Anyone who plans to do evil will be seen as a troublemaker.
9 El mal pensamiento del insensato es pecado; y abominación a los hombres el burlador.
Plans thought up by stupid people are sinful. Everyone hates those who are scornful of others.
10 Si fueres flojo en el día de trabajo, tu fuerza será angosta.
If you give up in times of trouble, it shows how weak you are.
11 ¿Detenerte has de escapar los que son tomados para la muerte, y los que son llevados al degolladero?
Rescue those who are being led away to be executed; save those who are stumbling on their way to be slaughtered.
12 Si dijeres: Ciertamente no lo supimos: ¿el que pesa los corazones no lo entenderá? El que mira por tu alma él lo conocerá, el cual dará al hombre según sus obras.
If you say, “Look, we didn't know anything about this,” don't you think the God who judges your motives will see what's happening? He who watches over you knows, and he will pay people back for what they've done.
13 Come, hijo mío, de la miel, porque es buena; y del panal dulce a tu paladar:
My son, eating honey is good for you; the honeycomb tastes sweet.
14 Tal será el conocimiento de la sabiduría a tu alma, si la hallares; y al fin tu esperanza no será cortada.
In the same way, you should know that wisdom is good for you; if you find it, there will be a future for you, and your hope will not be crushed.
15 O! impío, no aseches a la tienda del justo: no saquees su acostadero:
Don't be like a criminal waiting to ambush the home of good people; don't attack the place where they live.
16 Porque siete veces cae el justo, y se torna a levantar: mas los impíos caerán en el mal.
Those who do right may fall down seven times, and still get up again; but the wicked are brought down by disaster.
17 Cuando cayere tu enemigo, no te huelgues; y cuando tropezare, no se alegre tu corazón:
Don't celebrate when your enemies fall; don't be glad when they trip up,
18 Porque Jehová no lo mire, y le desagrade; y aparte de sobre él su enojo.
otherwise when the Lord sees it, he'll be unhappy with you and won't punish your enemies as he planned.
19 No te entremetas con los malignos, ni tengas envidia de los impíos:
Don't get all upset over the wicked, or be jealous of those who do wrong,
20 Porque para el malo no habrá buen fin; y la candela de los impíos será apagada.
for evil people have no future—the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.
21 Teme a Jehová, hijo mío, y al rey: no te entremetas con los inmutadores:
My son, honor the Lord and the king, and don't join those who are rebellious,
22 Porque su quebrantamiento se levantará de repente: ¿y el quebrantamiento de ambos quién lo comprenderá?
for disaster will suddenly fall on them. Who knows how the Lord and king will punish them?
23 También estas cosas pertenecen a los sabios. Tener respeto a personas en el juicio, no es bueno.
These are more sayings of the wise: Showing favoritism when passing judgment is wrong.
24 El que dijere al malo, justo eres: los pueblos le maldecirán, y las naciones le detestarán:
Those who tell the guilty, “You're innocent,” will be cursed by the people and hated by the nation,
25 Mas los que le reprenden, serán agradables; y sobre ellos vendrá bendición de bien.
while those who convict the guilty will be appreciated, and will receive a rich blessing.
26 Los labios serán besados, del que responde palabras rectas.
An honest answer is a kiss on the lips.
27 Apareja de fuera tu obra, y dispónela en tu heredad; y después edificarás tu casa.
Do the work you need to do outside first, then prepare and sow your fields, and only after that start building your house.
28 No seas testigo sin causa contra tu prójimo; y no lisonjees con tus labios.
Don't testify against your neighbors without having a good reason, and don't tell lies.
29 No digas: Como me hizo, así le haré: daré el pago al varón según su obra.
Don't say to yourself, “I'm going to do to him what he did to me! I'll pay him back for what he's done!”
30 Pasé junto a la heredad del hombre perezoso, y junto a la viña del hombre falto de entendimiento.
I walked past the field of a lazy man, past a vineyard of someone with no sense.
31 Y he aquí que por toda ella habían ya crecido espinas, ortigas habían ya cubierto su superficie, y su cerca de piedra estaba ya destruida.
It was all overgrown with thorns, the ground was covered with weeds, and the stone wall had fallen down.
32 Y yo miré, y púse lo en mi corazón: lo ví, y recibí enseñanza.
As I looked I thought about it, and what I saw taught me a lesson:
33 Tomando un poco de sueño, cabeceando otro poco, poniendo mano sobre mano otro poco para volver a dormir:
You may say, “Please, just a little more sleep, a little longer snooze, a little more folding of the arms to rest”—
34 Vendrá como caminante, tu necesidad; y tu pobreza como hombre de escudo.
and poverty will attack you like a robber, destitution like an armed warrior.
