Proverbios 16
1 Del hombre son las preparaciones del corazón: mas de Jehová la respuesta de la lengua.
Human beings may make plans in their minds, but the final decision is the Lord's.
2 Todos los caminos del hombre son limpios en su opinión: mas Jehová pesa los espíritus.
People think that whatever they do is fine, but the Lord looks at their intentions.
3 Encomienda a Jehová tus obras; y tus pensamientos serán afirmados.
Trust whatever you do to the Lord, and your plans will be successful.
4 Todas las cosas ha hecho Jehová por sí mismo; y aun al impío para el día malo.
The Lord has a purpose in everything he does, even the wicked for the day of trouble.
5 Abominación es a Jehová todo altivo de corazón: la mano junta a la mano, no será sin castigo.
The Lord hates the arrogant. You can be certain of this: the wicked won't go unpunished.
6 Con misericordia y verdad será reconciliado el pecado; y con el temor de Jehová se aparta del mal.
Sin is forgiven through trustworthy love and faithfulness; by honoring the Lord people are saved from evil.
7 Cuando los caminos del hombre serán agradables a Jehová, aun sus enemigos pacificará con él.
When the way that people live pleases the Lord, he makes even their enemies be at peace with them.
8 Mejor es lo poco con justicia, que la muchedumbre de los frutos sin derecho.
Better to have just a little and be honest than to have a lot and be dishonest.
9 El corazón del hombre piensa su camino: mas Jehová endereza sus pasos.
You can plan in your mind what to do, but the Lord will guide you.
10 Adivinación está en los labios del rey: en juicio no prevaricará su boca.
The king is inspired in what he says; he is not unreliable in his decisions.
11 Peso y balanzas derechas son de Jehová: obra suya son todas las pesas de la bolsa.
Accurate scales and balances are important to the Lord. He has determined all the weights in the bag.
12 Abominación es a los reyes hacer impiedad; porque con justicia será confirmado su trono.
It's a terrible thing for a king to do evil, for his throne is based on doing right.
13 Los labios justos son el contentamiento de los reyes; y al que habla lo recto aman.
People who tell the truth please kings; they love those who say what is right.
14 La ira del rey es mensajero de muerte: mas el hombre sabio la evitará.
An angry king can put you to death. If you're wise you'll try and calm him down.
15 En la alegría del rostro del rey está la vida; y su benevolencia es como la nube tardía.
If the king is smiling, you'll live; his blessing is like the clouds that bring spring rain.
16 Mejor es adquirir sabiduría que oro preciado; y adquirir inteligencia vale más que la plata.
Far better to get wisdom than gold; far better to choose knowledge than silver.
17 El camino de los rectos es apartarse del mal: su alma guarda, el que guarda su camino.
The highway of the good leads away from evil. If you watch where you're going you'll save your life.
18 Antes del quebrantamiento es la soberbia; y antes de la caída, la altivez de espíritu.
Pride leads to destruction; and an arrogant spirit leads to a fall.
19 Mejor es abajar el espíritu con los humildes, que partir despojos con los soberbios.
Better to have a humble spirit and live with the poor than to share plunder with the proud.
20 El entendido en la palabra, hallará el bien; y el que confía en Jehová, bienaventurado él.
If you pay attention to wise instruction you will do well; you'll be happy if you trust in the Lord.
21 El sabio de entendimiento es llamado entendido; y la dulzura de labios aumentará la doctrina.
If you think wisely you'll be called perceptive; if you speak pleasantly you'll be persuasive.
22 Manadero de vida es el entendimiento al que le posee: mas la erudición de los insensatos es locura.
If you have good sense it will be a fountain of life to you, but stupid people are punished by their stupidity.
23 El corazón del sabio hace prudente su boca; y con sus labios aumenta la doctrina.
A wise mind makes sure to say sensible things; the words spoken are persuasive.
24 Panal de miel son las hablas suaves, suavidad al alma, y medicina a los huesos.
Kind words are like a honeycomb—they taste sweet and are healthy for the body.
25 Hay camino que es derecho al parecer del hombre: mas su salida son caminos de muerte.
There's a way that seems to be right, but in the end it's the way of death.
26 El alma del que trabaja, trabaja para sí; porque su boca le constriñe.
A good appetite helps workers—hunger encourages them.
27 El hombre perverso cava en busca del mal; y en sus labios es como llama de fuego.
Worthless people plot evil and their words burn like fire.
28 El hombre perverso levanta contienda; y el chismoso aparta los príncipes.
Quarrelsome people cause conflict, and a gossip comes between the closest friends.
29 El hombre malo lisonjea a su prójimo; y le hace caminar por el camino no bueno:
Violent people lure their friends, and lead them in a direction that's not good for them.
30 Cierra sus ojos para pensar perversidades: mueve sus labios, efectúa el mal.
People who give you a sly wink are plotting bad things; they purse their lips and make evil happen.
31 Corona de honra es la vejez: en el camino de justicia se hallará.
Gray hair is a glorious crown; it's achieved by living right.
32 Mejor es el que tarde se aira, que el fuerte; y el que se enseñorea de su espíritu, que el que toma una ciudad.
Better to be slow to anger than to be powerful, better to have self-control than to conquer a town.
33 La suerte se echa en el seno: mas de Jehová es todo su juicio.
The lot is thrown into the lap, but the Lord makes every decision.
