Números 20

1 Y llegaron los hijos de Israel, toda la congregación, al desierto de Zin el mes primero, y reposó el pueblo en Cádes; y allí murió María, y fue sepultada allí.

So the people of Israel, the whole community, went into the wilderness of Zin in the first month; they stayed at Kadesh. There Miriam died and was buried.

2 Y no hubo agua para la congregación; y juntáronse contra Moisés y Aarón.

There was no water for the community, so they assembled together against Moses and Aaron.

3 Y riñó el pueblo con Moisés, y hablaron, diciendo: Y ojalá hubiéramos perecido nosotros, cuando perecieron nuestros hermanos delante de Jehová.

The people complained against Moses. They said, “It would have been better if we had died when our fellow Israelites died in front of Yahweh!

4 ¿Y por qué hicisteis venir la congregación de Jehová a este desierto, para que muramos aquí nosotros y nuestras bestias?

Why have you brought Yahweh's community into this wilderness to die here, we and our animals?

5 ¿Y por qué nos has hecho subir de Egipto para traernos a este mal lugar? No lugar de sementera, de higueras, de viñas, ni granados, ni aun agua hay para beber.

Why did you make us come up out of Egypt to bring us to this horrible place? Here there is no seed, figs, vines, or pomegranates, and there is no water to drink.”

6 Y fuéronse Moisés y Aarón de delante de la congregación a la puerta del tabernáculo del testimonio, y echáronse sobre sus rostros, y la gloria de Jehová apareció sobre ellos.

So Moses and Aaron went away from in front of the assembly. They went to the entrance of the tent of meeting and lay facedown. There Yahweh's brilliant glory appeared to them.

7 Y habló Jehová a Moisés, diciendo:

Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,

8 Toma la vara, y congrega al pueblo tú y Aarón tu hermano, y hablád a la peña en los ojos de ellos, y ella dará su agua, y sacarles has aguas de la peña, y darás de beber a la congregación, y a sus bestias.

“Take the staff and assemble the community, you, and Aaron your brother. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and command it to flow with water. You will produce water for them out of that rock, and you must give it to the community and their cattle to drink.”

9 Entonces Moisés tomó la vara de delante de Jehová, como él le mandó.

Moses took the staff from before Yahweh, as Yahweh had commanded him to do.

10 Y juntaron Moisés y Aarón la congregación delante de la peña, y díjoles: Oíd ahora rebeldes: ¿Haceros hemos salir aguas de esta peña?

Then Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock. Moses said to them, “Listen now, you rebels. Must we bring water out of this rock for you?”

11 Entonces Moisés alzó su mano, e hirió la peña con su vara dos veces, y salieron muchas aguas, y bebió la congregación y sus bestias.

Then Moses raised his hand and struck the rock twice with his staff, and much water came out. The community drank, and their cattle drank.

12 Y Jehová dijo a Moisés, y a Aarón: Por cuanto no creísteis en mí para santificarme en ojos de los hijos de Israel, por tanto no meteréis este pueblo en la tierra, que les he dado.

Then Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust me or honor me as holy in the eyes of the people of Israel, you will not bring this assembly into the land I have given them.”

13 Estas son las aguas de la rencilla por las cuales riñeron los hijos de Israel con Jehová, y él se santificó en ellos.

This place was called the waters of Meribah because the people of Israel had quarreled with Yahweh there, and he showed himself to them as holy.

14 Y envió Moisés embajadores al rey de Edom desde Cádes: Así dice Israel tu hermano: Tú has sabido todo el trabajo que nos ha venido,

Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom: Your brother Israel says this: “You know all the difficulties that have happened to us.

15 Que nuestros padres descendieron en Egipto, y estuvimos en Egipto muchos tiempos, y los Egipcios nos fatigaron, y a nuestros padres:

You know that our ancestors went down to Egypt and lived in Egypt a long time. The Egyptians treated us harshly and also our ancestors.

16 Y clamamos a Jehová, el cual oyó nuestra voz, y envió un ángel, y sacónos de Egipto: y, he aquí, estamos en Cádes ciudad de tu término.

When we called out to Yahweh, he heard our voice and sent an angel and brought us out of Egypt. Look, we are in Kadesh, a city on the border of your land.

17 Rogámoste que pasemos por tu tierra: no pasaremos, por labranza, ni por viña, ni beberemos agua de pozo: por el camino real iremos sin apartarnos a diestra ni a siniestra hasta que pasemos tu término.

I am asking you to let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or vineyard, nor will we drink the water in your wells. We will go along the king's highway. We will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left until we have passed your border.”

18 Y Edom le respondió: No pasarás por mí, de otra manera yo saldré contra ti armado.

But the king of Edom replied to him, “You may not pass through here. If you do, I will come with the sword to attack you.”

19 Y los hijos de Israel le dijeron: Por el camino seguido iremos: y si bebiéremos tus aguas yo y mis ganados, daré el precio de ellas: ciertamente ninguna cosa más haremos: con mis pies pasaré.

Then the people of Israel said to him, “We will go along the highway. If we or our livestock drink your water, we will pay for it. Just let us walk through on foot, without doing anything else.”

20 Y él respondió: No pasarás. Y salió Edom contra él con mucho pueblo, y mano fuerte.

But the king of Edom replied, “You may not pass through.” So the king of Edom came against Israel with a strong hand with many soldiers.

21 Y no quiso Edom dejar pasar a Israel por su término, y así Israel se apartó de él.

The king of Edom refused to allow Israel to cross over their border. Because of this, Israel turned away from the land of Edom.

22 Y partidos de Cádes los hijos de Israel, vinieron, toda aquella congregación al monte de Hor.

So the people journeyed from Kadesh. The people of Israel, the whole community, came to Mount Hor.

23 Y Jehová habló a Moisés, y a Aarón en el monte de Hor, en los términos de la tierra de Edom, diciendo:

Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor, on Edom's border. He said,

24 Aarón será juntado a sus pueblos: que no entrará en la tierra que yo di a los hijos de Israel, por cuanto fuisteis rebeldes a mi mandamiento a las aguas de la rencilla.

“Aaron must be gathered to his people, for he will not enter the land that I have given to the people of Israel. This is because you both rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.

25 Toma a Aarón, y a Eleazar su hijo, y házlos subir al monte de Hor.

Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor.

26 Y haz desnudar a Aarón sus vestidos, y viste de ellos a Eleazar su hijo; porque Aarón será congregado, y morirá allí.

Take Aaron's priestly garments off him and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron must die and be gathered to his people there.”

27 Y Moisés hizo como Jehová le mandó, y subieron al monte de Hor a ojos de toda la congregación.

Moses did as Yahweh commanded. They went up Mount Hor in the sight of all the community.

28 Y Moisés hizo desnudar a Aarón de sus vestidos, y vistiólos a Eleazar su hijo: y Aarón murió allí en la cumbre del monte, y Moisés y Eleazar descendieron del monte.

Moses took Aaron's priestly garments off him and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron died there on the top of the mountain. Then Moses and Eleazar came down.

29 Y viendo toda la congregación que Aarón era muerto, lloráronle treinta días toda la casa de Israel.

When all the community saw that Aaron was dead, the entire nation wept for Aaron for thirty days.
