Nehemías 13
1 Aquel día se leyó en el libro de Moisés, oyéndolo el pueblo: y fue hallado escrito en él, que los Ammonitas y Moabitas no entren para siempre en la congregación de Dios:
On that day they read in the Book of Moses in the hearing of the people. It was found written in it that no Ammonite or Moabite should come into the assembly of God, forever.
2 Por cuanto no salieron a recibir a los hijos de Israel con pan y con agua; antes alquilaron contra él a Balaam para maldecirle: mas nuestro Dios volvió la maldición en bendición.
This was because they had not come to the people of Israel with bread and with water, but they had hired Balaam to curse Israel. However, our God turned the curse into a blessing.
3 Y fue que como oyeron la ley, apartaron todo la mistura de Israel.
As soon as they heard the law, they separated out from Israel every foreign person.
4 Y antes de esto Eliasib sacerdote había sido prepósito de la cámara de la casa de nuestro Dios, y era pariente de Tobías.
Now before this Eliashib the priest was appointed over the storerooms of the house of our God. He was related to Tobiah.
5 Y le había hecho una grande cámara en la cual antes guardaban el presente, el perfume, y los vasos, y el diezmo del grano, y del vino, y del aceite, que era mandado dar a los Levitas, y a los cantores, y a los porteros; y la ofrenda de los sacerdotes.
Eliashib prepared for Tobiah a large storeroom, where previously they kept the grain offering, the incense, the articles, and the tithes of the grain, new wine, and the oil, which were designated for the Levites, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the contributions for the priests.
6 Mas a todo esto yo no estaba en Jerusalem: porque el año treinta y dos de Artaxerxes rey de Babilonia vine al rey: y al cabo de días fui enviado del rey.
But in all this time I was not in Jerusalem. For in the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon I went to the king. After some time I asked the king for permission to leave,
7 Y venido a Jerusalem entendí el mal que había hecho Eliasib para Tobías, haciendo para él cámara en los patios de la casa de Dios.
and I returned to Jerusalem. I understood the evil that Eliashib had done by giving Tobiah a storeroom in the courts of the house of God.
8 Y pesóme en gran manera, y eché todas las alhajas de la casa de Tobías fuera de la cámara.
I was very angry and I threw all Tobiah's household articles out of the storeroom.
9 Y dije, que limpiasen las cámaras: y volví allí las alhajas de la casa de Dios, en presente, y el perfume.
I ordered that they purify the storerooms, and I put back in them the articles of the house of God, the grain offerings, and the incense.
10 Y entendí que las partes de los Levitas no habían sido dadas: y que cada uno se había huido a su heredad, los Levitas y los cantores que hacían la obra.
I learned that the Levites' portions had not been given to them, and they had run away, each to his own field, the Levites and the singers who did the work.
11 Y reprendí a los magistrados, y dije: ¿Por qué es desamparada la casa de Dios? Y los junté, y los puse en su lugar.
So I confronted the officials and said, “Why is the house of God neglected?” I gathered them together and stationed them at their posts.
12 Y toda Judá trajo el diezmo del grano, del vino, y del aceite a los cilleros.
Then all Judah brought in the tithe of the grain, the new wine, and the oil to the storerooms.
13 Y puse sobre los cilleros a Selemías sacerdote, y a Sadoc escriba, y a Padaias de los Levitas, y junto a su mano, a Hanán, hijo de Zacur, hijo de Matanías, que eran tenidos por fieles: y de ellos era el repartir a sus hermanos.
I appointed as treasurers over the storehouses Shelemiah the priest and Zadok the scribe, and from the Levites, Pedaiah. Next to them was Hanan son of Zaccur son of Mattaniah, for they were counted as trustworthy. Their duties were to distribute the supplies to their associates.
14 Acuérdate de mí, oh Dios, por esto: y no raigas mis misericordias que hice en la casa de mi Dios, y en sus guardas.
Call me to mind, my God, concerning this, and do not wipe out the good deeds that I have done for the house of my God and its services.
15 En aquellos días ví en Judá algunos que pisaban lagares en sábado, y que traían los montones, y que cargaban asnos de vino, y de uvas, y de higos, y de toda carga, y traían a Jerusalem en día de sábado: e hice testigos el día que vendían el mantenimiento.
In those days I saw in Judah people treading winepresses on the Sabbath and bringing in heaps of grain and loading them on donkeys, and also wine, grapes, figs, and all kinds of heavy loads, which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. I protested that they were selling food on that day.
16 También estaban en ella Tirios que traían pescado, y toda mercadería: y vendían en sábado a los hijos de Judá en Jerusalem.
Men from Tyre living in Jerusalem brought in fish and all kinds of goods, and they sold them on the Sabbath to the people of Judah and in the city!
17 Y reprendí a los señores de Judá, y díjeles: ¿Qué mala cosa es esta que vosotros hacéis, que profanáis el día del sábado?
Then I confronted the leaders of Judah, “What is this evil thing you are doing, profaning the Sabbath day?
18 ¿No hicieron así vuestros padres, y trajo nuestro Dios sobre nosotros todo este mal, y sobre esta ciudad? y vosotros añadís ira sobre Israel profanando el sábado.
Did not your fathers do this? Did not our God bring all this evil on us and on this city? Now you are bringing more wrath on Israel by profaning the Sabbath.”
19 Y fue que como la sombra llegó a las puertas de Jerusalem antes del sábado, dije que se cerrasen las puertas, y dije que no las abriesen hasta después del sábado: y puse a las puertas algunos de mis criados, para que no entrase carga en día de sábado.
As soon as it became dark at the gates of Jerusalem before the Sabbath, I commanded that the doors be shut and that they should not be opened until after the Sabbath. I stationed some of my servants at the gates so no load could be brought in on the Sabbath day.
20 Y se quedaron fuera de Jerusalem una y dos veces los negociantes, y los que vendían toda cosa:
The merchants and sellers of all kinds of wares camped outside Jerusalem once or twice.
21 Y les protesté, y les dije: ¿Por qué quedáis vosotros delante del muro? Si lo hacéis otra vez, meteré la mano en vosotros. Desde entonces no vinieron en sábado.
But I warned them, “Why do you camp outside the wall? If you do so again, I will lay hands on you!” From that time on they did not come on the Sabbath.
22 Y dije a los Levitas, que se purificasen, y viniesen a guardar las puertas, para santificar el día del sábado. También por esto acuérdate de mí, Dios mío, y perdóname según la multitud de tu misericordia.
Then I commanded the Levites to purify themselves, and come and guard the gates, to sanctify the Sabbath day. Call me to mind for this also, my God, and have mercy on me because of the covenant loyalty you have toward me.
23 También en aquellos días ví algunos Judíos que habían tomado mujeres de Azoto, Ammonitas, y Moabitas:
In those days I also saw Jews that had married women of Ashdod, Ammon, and Moab.
24 Y sus hijos la mitad hablaban Azoto, y conforme a la lengua de cada pueblo, que no sabían hablar Judaico.
Half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod. None of them could speak the language of Judah, but only the language of one of the other peoples.
25 Y reñí con ellos, y los maldije, y herí de ellos a algunos varones, y les arranqué los cabellos, y juramentélos: Que no daréis vuestras hijas a sus hijos, y que no tomaréis de sus hijas para vuestros hijos, o para vosotros.
I confronted them, and I cursed them, and I hit some of them and pulled out their hair. I made them swear by God, saying, “You shall not give your daughters to their sons, or take their daughters for your sons, or for yourselves.
26 ¿No pecó por esto Salomón rey de Israel? y en muchas gentes no hubo rey como él, que era amado de su Dios: y Dios le había puesto por rey sobre todo Israel: aun a él hicieron pecar las mujeres extranjeras.
Did not Solomon king of Israel sin on account of these women? Among many nations there was no king like him, and he was loved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless, his foreign wives caused him to sin.
27 ¿Y obedeceremos a vosotros para cometer todo este mal tan grande, prevaricando contra nuestro Dios, tomando mujeres extranjeras?
Should we then listen to you and do all this great evil, and act treacherously against our God by marrying foreign women?”
28 Y uno de los hijos de Joiada, hijo de Eliasib, gran sacerdote, era yerno de Sanaballat Horonita: y le ahuyenté de mí.
One of the sons of Joiada son of Eliashib the high priest was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite. Therefore I caused him to flee from my presence.
29 Acuérdate de ellos, Dios mío, contra los que contaminan el sacerdocio, y el pacto del sacerdocio, y de los Levitas.
Call them to mind, my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood and the Levites.
30 Y los limpié de todo extranjero, y puse las observancias a los sacerdotes, y a los Levitas, a cada uno en su obra:
Thus I cleansed them from everything foreign, and established the duties of the priests and the Levites, each to his own task.
31 Y para la ofrenda de la leña en los tiempos señalados, y para las primicias. Acuérdate de mí, Dios mío, para bien.
I provided for the wood offering at the appointed times and for the firstfruits. Call me to mind, my God, for good.
