1 Libro de la generación de Jesu Cristo, hijo de David, hijo de Abraham.

A genealogy of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham:

2 Abraham engendró a Isaac; e Isaac engendró a Jacob; y Jacob engendró a Júdas, y a sus hermanos;

Abraham begot Isaac, then Isaac begot Jacob, then Jacob begot Judah and his brothers;

3 Y Júdas engendró de Tamar a Fares y a Zara; y Fares engendró a Esrom; y Esrom engendró a Aram;

then Judah begot Perez and Zerah by Tamar, then Perez begot Hezron, then Hezron begot Ram;

4 Y Aram engendró a Aminadab; y Aminadab engendró a Naasón; y Naasón engendró a Salmón;

then Ram begot Amminadab, then Amminadab begot Nahshon, then Nahshon begot Salmon;

5 Y Salmón engendró de Raab a Booz; y Booz engendró de Rut a Obed; y Obed engendró a Jessé;

then Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, then Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, then Obed begot Jesse,

6 Y Jessé engendró al rey David; y el rey David engendró a Salomón de la que fue mujer de Urías;

then Jesse begot David the king. Then King David begot Solomon by her who was of Uriah,

7 Y Salomón engendró a Roboam; y Roboam engendró a Abia; y Abia engendró a Asa;

then Solomon begot Rehoboam, then Rehoboam begot Abijah, then Abijah begot Asa;

8 Y Asa engendró a Josafat; y Josafat engendró a Joram; y Joram engendró a Ozías;

then Asa begot Jehoshaphat, then Jehoshaphat begot Joram, then Joram begot Uzziah;

9 Y Ozías engendró a Joatam; y Joatam engendró a Acaz; y Acaz engendró a Ezequías;

then Uzziah begot Jotham, then Jotham begot Ahaz, then Ahaz begot Hezekiah;

10 Y Ezequías engendró a Manasés; y Manasés engendró a Amón; y Amón engendró a Josías;

then Hezekiah begot Manasseh, then Manasseh begot Amon, then Amon begot Josiah;

11 Y Josías engendró [a Joacim; y Joacim engendró] a Jeconías y a sus hermanos, en la transmigración de Babilonia;

then Josiah begot Jeconiah and his brothers about the time of the Babylonian captivity.

12 Y después de la transmigración de Babilonia, Jeconías engendró a Salatiel; y Salatiel engendró a Zorobabel;

After the Babylonian captivity Jeconiah begot Shealtiel, then Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel;

13 Y Zorobabel engendró a Abiud; y Abiud engendró a Eliacim; y Eliacim engendró a Azor;

then Zerubbabel begot Abiud, then Abiud begot Eliakim, then Eliakim begot Azor;

14 Y Azor engendró a Sadoc; y Sadoc engendró a Akim; y Akim engendró a Eliud;

then Azor begot Zadok, then Zadok begot Achim, then Achim begot Eliud;

15 Y Eliud engendró a Eleazar; y Eleazar engendró a Matan; y Matan engendró a Jacob;

then Eliud begot Eleazar, then Eleazar begot Matthan, then Matthan begot Jacob;

16 Y Jacob engendró a José marido de María, de la cual nació Jesús, el cual es llamado el Cristo.

then Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, by whom was begotten Jesus, who is called Christ.

17 De manera que todas las generaciones desde Abraham hasta David, son catorce generaciones; y desde David hasta la transmigración de Babilonia, catorce generaciones; y desde la transmigración de Babilonia hasta Cristo, catorce generaciones.

So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, and from David until the Babylonian captivity are fourteen generations, and from the Babylonian captivity until the Christ are fourteen generations.

18 Y el nacimiento de Jesu Cristo fue así: Que estando María su madre desposada con José, antes que hubiesen estado juntos, se halló haber concebido del Espíritu Santo.

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was like this: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they joined together, she was found to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit.

19 Y José su marido, como era justo, y no quisiese exponerla a la infamia, quiso dejarla secretamente.

Then Joseph her husband, being a just man and not wanting to humiliate her publicly, decided to repudiate her secretly.

20 Y pensando él en esto, he aquí, que el ángel del Señor le aparece en sueños, diciendo: José, hijo de David, no temas de recibir a María tu mujer; porque lo que en ella es engendrado, del Espíritu Santo es.

But while he pondered these things, wow, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying: “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to receive Mary as your wife, because that which has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

21 Y parirá un hijo, y llamarás su nombre Jesús: porque él salvará a su pueblo de sus pecados.

And she will give birth to a Son and you will call His name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”

22 Todo esto aconteció para que se cumpliese lo que había hablado el Señor por el profeta, que dijo:

Now all this happened so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet should be fulfilled, namely:

23 He aquí, una virgen concebirá, y parirá un hijo, y llamarán su nombre Emmanuel, que interpretado quiere decir: Dios con nosotros.

“Behold, the virgin will become pregnant and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel”, which being translated is, ‘God with us’.

24 Y despertado José del sueño; hizo como el ángel del Señor le había mandado, y recibió a su mujer.

Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as that angel of the Lord commanded him and received his wife,

25 Y no la conoció hasta que parió a su Hijo primogénito; y llamó su nombre Jesús.

but did not know her until she had given birth to her son, the firstborn. And he called His name JESUS.
