San Mateo 4
1 Entonces Jesús fue llevado por el Espíritu al desierto, para ser tentado del diablo.
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.
2 Y habiendo ayunado cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, después tuvo hambre.
After fasting forty days and nights, he was hungry.
3 Y llegándose a él el tentador, dijo: Si eres Hijo de Dios, di que estas piedras se hagan pan.
The tempter came and said to him, “If you really are the Son of God, order these stones to turn into bread.”
4 Mas él respondiendo, dijo: Escrito está: No con solo el pan vivirá el hombre; mas con toda palabra que sale por la boca de Dios.
Jesus answered, “As Scripture says, ‘Human beings do not live by only eating bread, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
5 Entonces el diablo le pasa a la santa ciudad; y le puso sobre las almenas del templo,
Then the devil took him to the holy city and placed him on the top of the Temple.
6 Y le dijo: Si eres Hijo de Dios, échate de aquí abajo: que escrito está: Que a sus ángeles te encomendará; y te alzarán en sus manos, para que nunca hieras tu pie en piedra.
“If you really are the son of God, then throw yourself off,” he told Jesus. “As Scripture says, ‘He will order his angels to save you from harm. They will catch you so that you won't fall by tripping over a stone.’”
7 Jesús le dijo: También está escrito: No tentarás al Señor tu Dios.
Jesus answered, “As Scripture also says, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”
8 Otra vez le pasa el diablo a un monte muy alto, y le muestra todos los reinos del mundo, y su gloria,
Then the devil took Jesus to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in all their glory.
9 Y le dice: Todo esto te daré, si postrado me adorares.
He said to Jesus, “I will give you all these if you fall down on your knees and worship me.”
10 Entonces Jesús le dice: Vete, Satanás; que escrito está: Al Señor tu Dios adorarás, y a él solo servirás.
“Go away, Satan!” said Jesus. “As Scripture says, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and serve him, and him alone.’”
11 El diablo entonces le dejó: y, he aquí, los ángeles llegaron, y le servían.
Then the devil left him, and angels came to care for him.
12 Mas oyendo Jesús que Juan estaba preso, se volvió a Galilea;
When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he returned to Galilee.
13 Y dejando a Nazaret, vino, y habitó en Capernaum, ciudad marítima, en los confines de Zabulón y de Neftalím;
Leaving Nazareth, he came to stay in Capernaum, on the shores of the sea in the regions of Zebulun and Naphthali.
14 Para que se cumpliese lo que fue dicho por el profeta Isaías, que dijo:
This fulfilled what Isaiah the prophet said,
15 La tierra de Zabulón, y la tierra de Neftalím, camino de la mar, de la otra parte del Jordán, Galilea de los Gentiles,
“In the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphthali, on the road to the sea, across the Jordan River, in Galilee where the foreigners live:
16 Pueblo asentado en tinieblas, vio gran luz, y a los asentados en región y sombra de muerte, luz les esclareció.
The people living in darkness saw a great light; the light of dawn has shined on those living in the land of the shadow of death.”
17 Desde entonces comenzó Jesús a predicar, y a decir: Arrepentíos; que el reino de los cielos se ha acercado.
From that time on Jesus began declaring his message, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has arrived!”
18 Y andando Jesús junto a la mar de Galilea vio a dos hermanos, Simón, que es llamado Pedro, y Andrés su hermano, que echaban la red en la mar; porque eran pescadores.
As he was walking by the sea of Galilee Jesus saw two brothers. Simon, also called Peter, and his brother Andrew, were casting a net in the sea. They made their living by catching fish.
19 Y díceles: Veníd en pos de mí, y haceros he pescadores de hombres.
“Come and follow me, and I will teach you how to catch people,” he told them.
20 Ellos entonces, dejando luego las redes, le siguieron.
They left their nets immediately and followed him.
21 Y pasando de allí, vio otros dos hermanos, Santiago, hijo de Zebedeo, y Juan su hermano, en la nave con Zebedeo su padre, que remendaban sus redes; y los llamó.
Continuing on he saw two other brothers, James and John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. He called them to follow him.
22 Y ellos luego, dejando la nave, y a su padre, le siguieron.
They left the boat and their father immediately, and followed him.
23 Y rodeó Jesús a toda Galilea enseñando en las sinagogas de ellos, y predicando el evangelio del reino, y sanando toda enfermedad, y toda dolencia en el pueblo.
Jesus traveled throughout Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, telling the good news of the kingdom, and healing all the diseases and illnesses the people had.
24 Y corría su fama por toda la Siria; y traían a él todos los que tenían mal, los tomados de diversas enfermedades y tormentos, y los endemoniados, y lunáticos, y paralíticos; y los sanaba.
News about him spread throughout the province of Syria. They brought everyone who was sick to him: people troubled by seizures, the demon-possessed, those who were mentally ill, people who were paralyzed, and he healed all of them.
25 Y le seguían grandes multitudes de pueblo de Galilea, y de Decápolis, y de Jerusalem, y de Judea, y de la otra parte del Jordán.
Large crowds followed him from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and the region beyond Jordan.
