Jueces 1

1 Y aconteció después de la muerte de Josué, que los hijos de Israel consultaron a Jehová, diciendo: ¿Quién subirá por nosotros el primero a pelear contra los Cananeos?

And it came to pass, after the death of Joshua, that the sons of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying, —Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites, first, to make war upon them?

2 Y Jehová respondió: Judá subirá: he aquí que yo he entregado la tierra en sus manos.

And Yahweh said—Judah, shall go, —lo! I have delivered the land into his power.

3 Y Judá dijo a Simeón su hermano: Sube conmigo en mi suerte y peleemos contra el Cananeo: y yo también iré contigo en tu suerte. Y Simeón fue con él.

Then said Judah, unto Simeon his brother—Come up with me into the territory allotted me, and let us make war on the Canaanites, then will, I also, go with thee, into thy territory. So Simeon went with him.

4 Y subió Judá, y Jehová entregó en sus manos al Cananeo, y al Ferezeo: e hirieron de ellos en Bezec diez mil hombres.

And Judah went up, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, —and they smote them in Bezek, ten thousand men.

5 Y hallaron a Adoni-bezec en Bezec, y pelearon contra él: e hirieron al Cananeo, y al Ferezeo.

And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek, and fought with him, —and smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

6 Mas Adoni-bezec huyó: y siguiéronle, y prendiéronle, y cortáronle los pulgares de las manos y de los pies.

But Adoni-bezek fled, and they pursued him, —and took him, and cut off his thumbs, and his great toes.

7 Entonces dijo Adoni-bezec: Setenta reyes cortados los pulgares de sus manos y de sus pies cogían las migajas debajo de mi mesa: como yo hice, así me ha pagado Dios. Y metiéronle en Jerusalem, donde murió.

Then said Adoni-bezek—Seventy kings, with their thumbs and great toes cut off, have been picking up crumbs under my table, as I have done, so, hath God requited me. And they brought him into Jerusalem, and he died there.

8 Y habían combatido los hijos de Judá a Jerusalem, y la habían tomado, y pasado a cuchillo, y puesto a fuego la ciudad:

And the sons of Judah made war upon Jerusalem, and captured it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, —and, the city, they set on fire.

9 Después los hijos de Judá descendieron para pelear contra el Cananeo, que habitaba en las montañas, y al mediodía, y en los llanos.

And, afterwards, the sons of Judah went down to make war upon the Canaanites, —dwelling in the hill country, and in the south, and in the lowland.

10 Y partió Judá contra el Cananeo, que habitaba en Hebrón, la cual se llamaba antes Cariat-arbe, e hirieron a Sesai, a Ahimán, y a Tolmai.

And Judah went against the Canaanites who were dwelling in Hebron, now, the name of Hebron, formerly, was Kiriath-arba, —and they smote Sheshai and Ahiman, and Talmai.

11 Y de allí fue a los que habitaban en Dabir, que antes se llamaba Cariat-sefer.

And he went from thence, against the inhabitants of Debir, —now, the name of Debir, formerly, was Kiriath-sepher.

12 Y dijo Caleb: El que hiriere a Cariat-sefer, y la tomáre yo le daré a Aja mi hija por mujer.

And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and captureth it, I will give unto him Achsah my daughter, to wife.

13 Y tomóla Otoniel, hijo de Cenez, hermano de Caleb menor que él: y él le dio a Aja su hija por mujer.

Then Othniel, son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, captured it, —and he gave him Achsah his daughter, to wife.

14 Y cuando la llevaban, persuadióle que pidiese a su padre tierras para labrar. Y ella descendió del asno: y Caleb le dijo: ¿Qué tienes?

And it came pass, when she came, that she moved him to ask of her father a field, and, when she alighted from off the ass, Caleb said unto her—What aileth thee?

15 Ella entonces le respondió: Dáme una bendición: que pues me has dado tierra de secadal me des también fuentes de aguas. Entonces Caleb le dio las fuentes de arriba, y las fuentes de abajo.

And she said unto him—Give me a present; for, south land, hast thou given me, give me therefore pools of water. So Caleb gave her Upper-pools, and Lower-pools.

16 Y los hijos del Cineo suegro de Moisés subieron de la ciudad de las palmas con los hijos de Judá al desierto de Judá, que es al mediodía de Arad: y fueron y habitaron con el pueblo.

Now, the sons of the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, had come up from the city of palm-trees, with the sons of Judah, into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad, —so they went and dwelt with the people.

17 Judá pues fue a su hermano Simeón, e hirieron al Cananeo que habitaba en Sefat, y asoláronla: y pusieron por nombre a la ciudad, Jorma.

Then went Judah, with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites dwelling in Zephath, —and devoted it to destruction, and the name of the city was called Hormah.

18 Tomó también Judá a Gaza con su término: y a Ascalón con su término: y a Accarón con su término.

And Judah captured Gaza with the boundaries thereof, and Ashkelon, with the boundaries thereof, —and Ekron, with the boundaries thereof.

19 Y fue Jehová con Judá, y echó a los de las montañas: mas no pudo echar a los que habitaban en las campañas, los cuales tenían carros herrados.

And it same to pass that Yahweh was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, —but did not dispossess the inhabitants of the vale, because they had, chariots of iron.

20 Y dieron a Caleb a Hebrón, como Moisés había dicho: él cual echó de allí a tres hijos de Enac.

So they gave unto Caleb Hebron, as spake Moses, —and he drave out from thence the three sons of Anak.

21 Mas al Jebuseo, que habitaba en Jerusalem no echaron los hijos de Ben-jamín, antes el Jebuseo habitó con los hijos de Ben-jamín en Jerusalem hasta hoy.

But, the Jebusites dwelling in Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin did not drive out, —but the Jebusites have dwelt with the sons of Benjamin, in Jerusalem, unto this day.

22 También los de la casa de José subieron a Bet-el: y fue Jehová con ellos.

Then went up the house of Joseph—they also, —unto Bethel, —and, Yahweh, was with them.

23 Y los de la casa de José pusieron espías en Bet-el, la cual ciudad antes se llamaba Luza.

And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel, —now, the name of the city, formerly, was, Luz.

24 Y los que espiaban, vieron un hombre que salía de la ciudad, y dijéronle: Muéstranos ahora la entrada de la ciudad, y haremos contigo misericordia.

So the watchers saw a man, coming forth from the city, —and they said unto him—Shew us, we pray thee, the way to get into the city, and we will deal with thee, in lovingkindness.

25 Y él les mostró la entrada a la ciudad, e hiriéronla a filo de espada, y dejaron a aquel hombre con toda su parentela.

And he shewed them the way to get into the city, and they smote the city, with the edge of the sword, —but, the man and all his family, they let go.

26 Y aquel hombre se fue a la tierra de los Jetteos, y edificó una ciudad, a la cual llamó Luza: y este es su nombre hasta hoy.

And the man went into the land of the Hittites, —and built a city, and called the name thereof, Luz, that, is the name thereof, unto this day.

27 Tampoco Manasés echó a los de Bet-sán, ni a los de sus aldeas: ni a los de Tanac, y sus aldeas: ni a los que habitaban en Jeblaam, y en sus aldeas: ni a los que habitaban en Mageddo y en sus aldeas: mas el Cananeo quiso habitar en esta tierra.

But Manasseh took not possession of Beth-shean and her towns, nor of Taanach and her towns, nor dispossessed the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam, and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo, and her towns, —but the Canaanites were determined to remain in this land;

28 Mas cuando Israel tomó fuerzas, hizo al Cananeo tributario: pero no le echó.

when Israel, however, had waxed strong, they put the Canaanites under tribute, —though they, dispossessed, them not.

29 Tampoco Efraím echó al Cananeo que habitaba en Gazer, antes habito el Cananeo en medio de él en Gazer.

And, Ephraim, dispossessed not the Canaanites who were dwelling in Gezer, —so the Canaanites remained in their midst, in Gezer.

30 Tampoco Zabulón echó los que habitaban en Cetrón, y a los que habitaban en Naalol: mas el Cananeo habitó en medio de él, y le fueron tributarios.

Zebulun, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol, —but the Canaanites remained in their midst, and came under tribute.

31 Tampoco Aser echó a los que habitaban en Acob, y a los que habitaban en Sidón, y en Acalab, y en Acasib, y en Helba, y en Afed, y en Rohob:

Asher, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, —nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;

32 Antes moró Aser entre los Cananeos, que habitaban en la tierra, que no los echó.

but the Asherites dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —for they dispossessed them not.

33 Tampoco Neftalí echó los que habitaban en Bet-semes, y a los que habitaban en Bet-avat: mas moró entre los Cananeos, que habitaban en la tierra: mas fuéronle tributarios los moradores de Bet-semes, y los moradores de Bet-avat.

Naphtali, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but they dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —and, the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, and of Beth-anath, became theirs, under tribute.

34 Los Amorreos apretaron a los hijos de Dan hasta el monte, que no los dejaron descender a la campaña:

And the Amorites forced the sons of Dan into the hill country, —for they suffered them not to come down into the vale;

35 Y el Amorreo quiso habitar en el monte de Hares, en Ajalón, y en Salebim; mas como la mano de la casa de José tomó fuerzas, hiciéronlos tributarios.

and, though the Amorites were determined to remain in the hill country of Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, yet was the hand of the house of Joseph heavy, so that they came under tribute.

36 Y el término del Amorreo fue desde la subida de Acrabim, y desde la piedra, y arriba.

And, the boundary of the Amorites, was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upwards.
