Josué 9

1 Y aconteció que como oyeron estas cosas todos los reyes que estaban de esta parte del Jordán, así en las montañas como en los llanos, y en toda la costa de la gran mar delante del Líbano, los Jetteos, Amorreos, Cananeos, Ferezeos, Heveos, y Jebuseos,

And when all the Kings that were beyonde Iorden, in the mountaines and in the valleis, and by all the coastes of the great Sea ouer against Lebanon (as the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hiuites, and the Iebusites) heard thereof,

2 Juntáronse a una de un acuerdo para pelear contra Josué e Israel.

They gathered themselues together, to fight against Ioshua, and against Israel with one accord.

3 Mas los moradores de Gabaón, como oyeron lo que Josué había hecho a Jericó y a Hai;

But the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Ioshua had done vnto Iericho, and to Ai.

4 Ellos usaron también de astucia; y fueron, y fingiéronse embajadores, y tomaron sacos viejos sobre sus asnos, y cueros viejos de vino rotos y remendados;

And therefore they wrought craftily: for they went, and fayned themselues ambassadours, and tooke olde sackes vpon their asses, and olde bottels for wine, both rent and bound vp,

5 Y zapatos viejos y remendados en sus pies, y vestidos viejos sobre sí: y todo el pan que traían para el camino, seco y mohoso.

And olde shoes and clouted vpon their feete: also the raiment vpon them was old, and all their prouision of bread was dried, and mouled.

6 Y vinieron a Josué al campo en Galgala, y dijéronle a él y a los de Israel: Nosotros venimos de tierra muy lejana, hacéd pues ahora con nosotros alianza.

So they came vnto Ioshua into the hoste to Gilgal, and said vnto him, and vnto the men of Israel, Wee be come from a farre countrey: nowe therefore make a league with vs.

7 Y los de Israel respondieron a los Heveos: Quizá vosotros habitáis en medio de nosotros: ¿cómo pues podremos nosotros hacer alianza con vosotros?

Then the men of Israel said vnto the Hiuites, It may be that thou dwellest among vs, how then can I make a league with thee?

8 Y ellos respondieron a Josué: Nosotros somos tus siervos. Y Josué les dijo: ¿Quién sois vosotros; y de donde venís?

And they said vnto Ioshua, We are thy seruants. Then Ioshua saide vnto them, Who are ye? and whence come ye?

9 Y ellos respondieron: Tus siervos han venido de muy lejanas tierras por la fama de Jehová tu Dios, porque hemos oído su fama, y todas las cosas que hizo en Egipto:

And they answered him, From a very farre countrey thy seruants are come for the Name of the Lord thy God: for we haue heard his fame and all that he hath done in Egypt,

10 Y todas las cosas que hizo a los dos reyes de los Amorreos, que estaban de la otra parte del Jordán: a Sejón rey de Jesebón, y a Og rey de Basán, que estaban en Astarot.

And all that he hath done to the two Kings of the Amorites that were beyonde Iorden, to Sihon King of Heshbon, and to Og King of Bashan, which were at Ashtaroth.

11 Por lo cual nuestros ancianos y todos los moradores de nuestra tierra nos dijeron: Tomád en vuestras manos provisión para el camino, e id delante de ellos, y decídles: Nosotros somos vuestros siervos, y hacéd ahora con nosotros alianza:

Wherefore our elders, and all the inhabitants of our countrey spake to vs, saying, Take vitailes with you for the iourney, and go to meete them, and say vnto them, Wee are your seruants: now therefore make ye a league with vs.

12 Este nuestro pan tomamos caliente de nuestras casas para el camino el día que salimos para venir a vosotros; y hélo aquí, ahora que está seco y mohoso:

This our bread we tooke it hote with vs for vittailes out of our houses, the day we departed to come vnto you: but nowe beholde, it is dried, and it is mouled.

13 Estos cueros de vino también los henchimos nuevos; hélos aquí: ya rotos: también estos nuestros vestidos y nuestros zapatos están ya viejos a causa de la grande longura del camino.

Also these bottels of wine which we filled, were newe, and lo, they be rent, and these our garments and our shooes are olde, by reason of the exceeding great iourney.

14 Y los hombres de Israel tomaron de su provisión del camino, y no preguntaron a la boca de Jehová.

And the men accepted their tale concerning their vittailes, and counselled not with the mouth of the Lord.

15 E hizo Josué paz con ellos, y trató con ellos alianza que les daría la vida. Y los príncipes del pueblo les juraron.

So Ioshua made peace with them, and made a league with them, that he would suffer them to liue: also the Princes of the Congregation sware vnto them.

16 Pasados tres días después que hicieron con ellos el concierto, oyeron como eran sus vecinos, y que habitaban en medio de ellos.

But at the end of three dayes, after they had made a league with them, they heard that they were their neighbours, and that they dwelt among them.

17 Y partiéronse los hijos de Israel, y al tercero día llegaron a sus ciudades: y sus ciudades eran Gabaón, Cafira, Berot, y Cariat-jarim.

And the children of Israel tooke their iourney, and came vnto their cities the third day, and their cities were Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth and Kiriath-iearim.

18 Y no los hirieron los hijos de Israel, por cuanto los príncipes del pueblo les habían jurado por Jehová el Dios de Israel: y toda la congregación murmuraba contra los príncipes.

And the children of Israel slewe them not, because the Princes of the Congregation had sworne vnto them by the Lord God of Israel: wherefore all the Congregation murmured against the Princes.

19 Mas todos los príncipes respondieron a toda la congregación: Nosotros les hemos jurado por Jehová Dios de Israel: por tanto ahora no les podemos tocar.

Then all the Princes said vnto all the Congregation, We haue sworne vnto them by the Lord God of Israel: nowe therefore we may not touch them.

20 Empero esto haremos con ellos: dejarlos hemos vivir, porque no venga ira sobre nosotros a causa del juramento que les hemos hecho.

But this we wil doe to them, and let them liue, least the wrath be vpon vs because of the othe which we sware vnto them.

21 Y los príncipes les dijeron: Vivan; mas sean leñadores y aguadores para toda la congregación, como los príncipes les han dicho.

And the Princes sayd vnto them againe, Let them liue, but they shall hewe wood, and drawe water vnto all the Congregation, as the Princes appoint them.

22 Y llamándoles Josué les habló, diciendo: ¿Por qué nos habéis engañado, diciendo: Muy lejos habitamos de vosotros, morando en medio de nosotros?

Ioshua then called them, and talked with them, and sayd, Wherefore haue ye beguiled vs, saying, We are very farre from you, when ye dwel among vs?

23 Vosotros pues ahora seréis malditos, y no faltará de vosotros siervo, y quien corte la leña, y saque el agua para la casa de mi Dios.

Now therefore ye are cursed, and there shall none of you be freed from being bondmen, and hewers of wood, and drawers of water for the house of my God.

24 Y ellos respondieron a Josué, y dijeron: Como fue dado a entender a tus siervos, que Jehová tu Dios había mandado a Moisés su siervo, que os había de dar toda la tierra, y que había de destruir todos los moradores de la tierra delante de vosotros; por esto temimos en grande manera de vosotros por nuestras vidas, e hicimos esto.

And they answered Ioshua, and sayd, Because it was tolde thy seruants, that the Lord thy God had commanded his seruant Moses to giue you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land out of your sight, therefore we were exceeding sore afraid for our liues at the presence of you, and haue done this thing:

25 Ahora, pues, hénos aquí en tu mano, lo que te pareciere bueno y recto hacer de nosotros, eso haz.

And beholde nowe, we are in thine hand: doe as it seemeth good and right in thine eyes to doe vnto vs.

26 Y él lo hizo así, que los libró de la mano de los hijos de Israel, que no los matasen.

Euen so did he vnto them, and deliuered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, that they slewe them not.

27 Y Josué los constituyó aquel día por leñadores y aguadores para la congregación, y para el altar de Jehová en el lugar que él escogiese, hasta hoy.

And Ioshua appointed them that same day to be hewers of wood, and drawers of water for the Congregation, and for the altar of the Lord vnto this day, in the place which he should chuse.
