Juan 8
1 Y Jesús se fue al monte de las Olivas.
Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2 Y por la mañana volvió al templo, y todo el pueblo vino a él; y sentado él los enseñaba.
At dawn, however, he came back to the Temple, where the people came to him in crowds. He had taken his seat and was teaching them,
3 Entonces los escribas y los Fariseos traen a él una mujer tomada en adulterio; y poniéndola en medio,
when the Scribes and Pharisees had brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They made her stand in the middle of the court, and said to him.
4 Dícenle: Maestro, esta mujer ha sido tomada en el mismo hecho adulterando.
"Rabbi, this woman has been found in the very act of adultery.
5 Y en la ley Moisés nos mandó apedrear a las tales: ¿Tú, pues, qué dices?
"Now Moses, in the Law, has commanded us to stone such creatures. But you, what do you say?"
6 Mas esto decían tentándole, para poderle acusar; empero Jesús bajado hacia abajo escribía en tierra con el dedo.
(This they said to tempt him, so that they could bring a charge against him.)
7 Y como perseverasen preguntándole, enderezóse, y les dijo: El que de vosotros es sin pecado, arroje contra ella la piedra el primero.
But Jesus stooped down, and began to write on the ground with his finger. When they continued to question him, he raised himself and said to them, "Let the innocent man among you be the first to throw the stone at her."
8 Y volviéndose a bajar hacia abajo, escribía en tierra.
Then he stooped down again, and again began to write on the ground.
9 Oyendo pues ellos esto, redargüidos de la conciencia, salíanse uno a uno, comenzando desde los más viejos, hasta los postreros, y quedó solo Jesús, y la mujer que estaba en medio.
When they heard that, they went out one by one, beginning with the eldest. And Jesus was left behind alone - and the woman in the middle of the court.
10 Y enderezándose Jesús, y no viendo a nadie más que a la mujer, le dijo: ¿Mujer, dónde están los que te acusaban? ¿ninguno te ha condenado?
Then Jesus raised himself up and said to her. "Woman, where are they? Has no man condemn you,"
11 Y ella dijo: Señor, ninguno. Entonces Jesús le dijo: Ni yo te condeno: vete, y no peques más.
"No one, Sir," she answered. "Neither do I condemned you," said Jesus. "Go, and never sin again."
12 Y hablóles Jesús otra vez, diciendo: Yo soy la luz del mundo: el que me sigue, no andará en tinieblas; mas tendrá la luz de vida.
Once more Jesus addressed them. "I am the light of the world," he said; "He who follows me shall not walk in the darkness, but he shall have the Light of life."
13 Entonces los Fariseos le dijeron: Tú de ti mismo das testimonio: tu testimonio no es verdadero.
Then said the Pharisees to him. "You are bearing testimony to yourself; your testimony is not true."
14 Respondió Jesús, y les dijo: Aunque yo doy testimonio de mí mismo, mi testimonio es verdadero; porque sé de donde he venido, y a donde voy; mas vosotros no sabéis de donde vengo, y a donde voy.
In reply Jesus said to them. "Even if I do bear testimony to concerning myself, my testimony is true, because I know where I have come from and where I am going. But you do not know where I have come from, or where I am going.
15 Vosotros según la carne juzgáis; mas yo no juzgo a nadie.
"For you are judging according to the flesh. I am judging no man.
16 Mas si yo juzgo, mi juicio es verdadero; porque no soy solo, sino yo, y el Padre que me envió.
"Though even if I do judge, my judgment is trustworthy, because I am not alone, but the Father who sent me is with me.
17 Y en vuestra ley está escrito, que el testimonio de dos hombres es verdadero.
"And in your Law it is written that the testimony of two men is true.
18 Yo soy el que doy testimonio de mí mismo; y da testimonio de mí el Padre que me envió.
"I am one who gives testimony concerning myself, and the Father who sent me gives testimony concerning me."
19 Entonces le decían: ¿Dónde está tu Padre? Respondió Jesús: Ni a mí me conocéis, ni a mi Padre. Si a mí me conocieseis, a mi Padre también conoceríais.
"Where is your Father?" they asked him. "You have neither known me nor my Father," answered Jesus. "If you had known me, you would have known my father also."
20 Estas palabras habló Jesús en el tesoro, enseñando en el templo; y nadie le prendió, porque aun no había venido su hora.
He said these words in the Treasury, while he was teaching in the Temple; yet no one arrested him, because his hour was not yet come.
21 Y díjoles otra vez Jesús: Yo voy, y me buscaréis, y en vuestro pecado moriréis: a donde yo voy, vosotros no podéis venir.
Then again he said them. "I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sins. Where I am going, you cannot come."
22 Decían entonces los Judíos: ¿Se ha de matar a sí mismo? porque dice: A donde yo voy, vosotros no podéis venir.
Then the Jews said. "He will not kill himself, will he? Is that why he says, ‘Where I am going you cannot come’?"
23 Y les decía: Vosotros sois de abajo, yo soy de arriba: vosotros sois de este mundo, yo no soy de este mundo.
And he said to them. "You are from below. I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world.
24 Por eso os dije, que moriríais en vuestros pecados; porque si no creyereis que yo soy, en vuestros pecados moriréis.
"That is why I said that you would die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins."
25 Y decíanle: ¿Tú, quién eres? Entonces Jesús les dijo: El que al principio también os he dicho.
"Who are you?" then they asked him. "What I am telling you from the beginning," Jesus answered.
26 Muchas cosas tengo que decir, y que juzgar de vosotros; mas el que me envió, es verdadero; y yo lo que he oído de él, esto hablo en el mundo.
"I have many things to say and to judge concerning you. But he who sent me is true, and I speak to the world only those things which I have heard from him."
27 Mas no entendieron que él les hablaba del Padre.
They did not understand that he meant the Father,
28 Díjoles pues Jesús: Cuando levantareis al Hijo del hombre, entonces entenderéis que yo soy, y que nada hago de mí mismo; mas como el Padre me enseñó, esto hablo.
so Jesus added. "When you lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am He; and that I do nothing on my own authority, but that I speak just as the Father has taught me,
29 Y el que me envió, conmigo está: no me ha dejado solo el Padre; porque yo, lo que a él agrada, hago siempre.
"and he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I do always the things that please him."
30 Hablando él estas cosas, muchos creyeron en él.
When he spoke in this way, many of the Jews believed in him.
31 Entonces decía Jesús a los Judíos que le habían creído: Si vosotros permaneciereis en mi palabra, seréis verdaderamente mis discípulos;
So Jesus spoke to the Jews that believed him, saying. "If you abide in my teaching, you are my true disciples;
32 Y conoceréis la verdad, y la verdad os hará libres.
"and you shall know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
33 Y respondiéronle: Simiente de Abraham somos, y jamás servimos a nadie: ¿cómo dices tú: Seréis hechos libres?
"We are descendants of Abraham," they replied, "and have never been in slavery to any man. What do you mean by saying, ‘You shall become free’?"
34 Jesús les respondió: De cierto, de cierto os digo, que todo aquel que hace pecado, es siervo del pecado.
"In solemn truth I tell you," Jesus replied, "every one who commits sin is a slave
"Now the slave does not remain permanently in the household, but the son does remain. (aiōn g165)
36 Así que, si el Hijo os libertare, seréis verdaderamente libres.
"So then, if the Son shall set you free, you will be free indeed.
37 Yo sé que sois simiente de Abraham; mas procuráis matarme, porque mi palabra no cabe en vosotros.
"I know you are Abraham’s descendants; but you are seeking to kill me, Because my teaching has no place in you.
38 Yo, lo que he visto con mi Padre, hablo; y vosotros lo que habéis visto con vuestro padre, hacéis.
"I am declaring what I have seen with the Father, and you are acting as you have learned from your father."
39 Respondieron, y dijéronle: Nuestro padre es Abraham. Díceles Jesús: Si fuerais hijos de Abraham, las obras de Abraham, haríais.
"Abraham is our father," they answered. "If you are indeed Abraham’s children," said Jesus "do the deeds of Abraham.
40 Empero ahora procuráis de matarme, hombre que os he hablado la verdad, la cual he oído de Dios: no hizo esto Abraham.
"But now you are seeking to kill me - a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do that.
41 Vosotros hacéis las obras de vuestro padre. Dijéronle pues: Nosotros no somos nacidos de fornicación: un solo Padre tenemos, que es Dios.
"You are doing the deeds of your father." "We were not born of adultery," they said; "we have one Father, God."
42 Jesús entonces les dijo: Si vuestro Padre fuera Dios, ciertamente me amaríais a mí; porque yo de Dios he salido, y he venido; que no he venido de mí mismo, mas él me envió.
Jesus said to them. "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I proceeded forth and am now come from God. I did not come on my own authority, but God himself sent me.
43 ¿Por qué no entendéis mi lenguaje? es porque no podéis oír mi palabra.
"How is it that you do not understand what I say? It is because you cannot listen to my message.
44 Vosotros de vuestro padre el diablo sois, y los deseos de vuestro padre queréis cumplir: él homicida ha sido desde el principio; y no permaneció en la verdad; porque no hay verdad en él. Cuando habla mentira, de suyo habla; porque es mentiroso, y padre de mentira.
"You are of your father, the devil, and you want to do what your father desires. He was a man-slayer from the very beginning; and he has no standing place in the truth, because truth is not in him. Whenever he utters a lie, he speaks from his nature, for he is a liar and the father of lying.
45 Y porque yo os digo la verdad, no me creéis.
"But as for me, it is because I speak the truth to you that you do not believe me.
46 ¿Quién de vosotros me redarguye de pecado? Y si digo la verdad, ¿por qué vosotros no me creéis?
"Which one of you convicts me of sin? Why then, if I am speaking the truth, do you not believe me?
47 El que es de Dios, las palabras de Dios oye: las cuales por tanto no oís vosotros, porque no sois de Dios.
"He who is from God listens to God’s words. For this reason you do not listen, because you are not from God."
48 Respondieron entonces los Judíos, y dijéronle: ¿No decimos bien nosotros, que tú eres Samaritano, y que tienes demonio?
In reply the Jews said to him, "Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan, and you also have a demon?"
49 Respondió Jesús: Yo no tengo demonio; antes honro a mi Padre, y vosotros me habéis deshonrado.
"I do not have a demon," said Jesus, "but I am honoring my Father, and you are dishonoring me.
50 Y yo no busco mi gloria: hay quien la busque, y juzgue.
"Yet I am not seeking my own honor. There is One who is seeking it, and He is judge.
51 De cierto, de cierto os digo, que el que guardare mi palabra, no verá muerte para siempre. (aiōn g165)
"In solemn truth I tell you that if any one obeys my teaching he shall never behold death." (aiōn g165)
52 Entonces los Judíos le dijeron: Ahora conocemos que tienes demonio: Abraham murió, y los profetas; y tú dices: El que guardare mi palabra, no gustará muerte para siempre. (aiōn g165)
"Now we know that you have a demon," exclaimed the Jews. Abraham died, and so did the prophets; and yet you say, ‘If any man obeys my teaching he shall never taste death.’ (aiōn g165)
53 ¿Eres tú mayor que nuestro padre Abraham, el cual murió? y los profetas murieron: ¿quién te haces a ti mismo?
"You are not greater than our father Abraham, are you? And he died, and the prophets died. Who are you making yourself out to be?"
54 Respondió Jesús: Si yo me glorifico a mí mismo, mi gloria es nada: mi Padre es el que me glorifica: el que vosotros decís, que es vuestro Dios.
"If I glorify myself." said Jesus, "my glory is nothing. It is my Father that glorifies me, and you say, ‘He is our God.’
55 Mas no le conocéis: yo empero le conozco; y si dijere que no le conozco, seré como vosotros, mentiroso; mas le conozco, y guardo su palabra.
"You are not acquainted with him; I know him. Were I to say, ‘I do not know him,’ I should be like you, a liar. But I do know him, and I obey his teaching.
56 Abraham vuestro padre se regocijó por ver mi día; y lo vio, y se regocijó.
"Your father Abraham rejoiced that he should see my day; and he saw it and was glad."
57 Dijéronle entonces los Judíos: Aun no tienes cincuenta años; ¿y has visto a Abraham?
"You are not yet fifty years old," said the Jews to him, "and you have seen Abraham?"
58 Díjoles Jesús: De cierto, de cierto os digo, antes que Abraham fuese, yo soy.
"In solemn truth I tell you," answered Jesus, "that before Abraham came into existence, I am."
59 Tomaron entonces piedras para arrojarle; mas Jesús se encubrió, y se salió del templo, pasando por medio de ellos, y así pasó.
Then they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the Temple.
