Job 34
1 Y respondió Eliú, y dijo:
Then Elihu continued:
2 Oíd sabios, mis palabras, y doctos escuchádme:
“Hear my words, O wise men; give ear to me, O men of learning.
3 Porque el oído prueba las palabras, y el paladar gusta para comer.
For the ear tests words as the mouth tastes food.
4 Escojamos para vosotros el juicio, conozcamos entre nosotros cual sea lo bueno.
Let us choose for ourselves what is right; let us learn together what is good.
5 Porque Job ha dicho: Yo soy justo, y Dios me ha quitado mi derecho.
For Job has declared, ‘I am righteous, yet God has deprived me of justice.
6 En mi juicio yo fui mentiroso, mi saeta es gravada sin haber yo prevaricado.
Would I lie about my case? My wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.’
7 ¿Qué hombre hay como Job, que bebe el escarnio como agua?
What man is like Job, who drinks up derision like water?
8 Y va en compañía con los que obran iniquidad, y anda con los hombres maliciosos.
He keeps company with evildoers and walks with wicked men.
9 Porque dijo: De nada servirá al hombre, si conformare su voluntad con Dios.
For he has said, ‘It profits a man nothing that he should delight in God.’
10 Por tanto varones de seso, oídme: Lejos vaya de Dios la impiedad, y del Omnipotente la iniquidad.
Therefore listen to me, O men of understanding. Far be it from God to do wrong, and from the Almighty to act unjustly.
11 Porque él pagará al hombre su obra, y él le hará hallar conforme a su camino,
For according to a man’s deeds He repays him; according to a man’s ways He brings consequences.
12 Además de esto, cierto Dios no hará injusticia, y el Omnipotente no pervertirá el derecho.
Indeed, it is true that God does not act wickedly, and the Almighty does not pervert justice.
13 ¿Quién visitó por él la tierra? ¿y quién puso en orden todo el mundo?
Who gave Him charge over the earth? Who appointed Him over the whole world?
14 Si él pusiese sobre el hombre su corazón, y recogiese a sí su espíritu y su aliento,
If He were to set His heart to it and withdraw His Spirit and breath,
15 Toda carne perecería juntamente, y el hombre se tornaría en polvo.
all flesh would perish together and mankind would return to the dust.
16 Y si hay en ti entendimiento, oye esto: escucha la voz de mis palabras.
If you have understanding, hear this; listen to my words.
17 ¿Enseñorearse ha el que aborrece juicio? ¿y condenarás al poderoso siendo justo?
Could one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn the just and mighty One,
18 ¿Decirse ha al rey: Perverso eres; y a los príncipes: Impíos sois?
who says to kings, ‘You are worthless!’ and to nobles, ‘You are wicked,’
19 ¿ Cuánto menos a aquel que no hace acepción de personas de príncipes, ni el rico es de él más respetado que el pobre? porque todos son obras de sus manos.
who is not partial to princes and does not favor rich over poor? For they are all the work of His hands.
20 En un momento mueren, y a media noche se alborotarán los pueblos, y pasarán, y sin mano será quitado el poderoso.
They die in an instant, in the middle of the night. The people convulse and pass away; the mighty are removed without human hand.
21 Porque sus ojos están sobre los caminos del hombre, y todos sus pasos ve.
For His eyes are on the ways of a man, and He sees his every step.
22 No hay tinieblas, ni sombra de muerte, donde se encubran los que obran maldad.
There is no darkness or deep shadow where the workers of iniquity can hide.
23 Porque nunca más permitirá al hombre, que vaya con Dios a juicio.
For God need not examine a man further or have him approach for judgment.
24 Él quebrantará a los fuertes sin pesquisa: y hará estar otros en lugar de ellos.
He shatters the mighty without inquiry and sets up others in their place.
25 Por tanto él hará notorias las obras de ellos; y volverá la noche, y serán quebrantados.
Therefore, He recognizes their deeds; He overthrows them in the night and they are crushed.
26 Como a malos los herirá en lugar donde sean vistos.
He strikes them for their wickedness in full view,
27 Por cuanto se apartaron de él así, y no consideraron todos sus caminos:
because they turned aside from Him and had no regard for any of His ways.
28 Haciendo venir delante de sí el clamor del pobre, y oyendo el clamor de los necesitados.
They caused the cry of the poor to come before Him, and He heard the outcry of the afflicted.
29 Y si él diere reposo, ¿quién inquietará? Si escondiere el rostro, ¿quién le mirará? Esto sobre una nación, y asimismo sobre un hombre:
But when He remains silent, who can condemn Him? When He hides His face, who can see Him? Yet He watches over both man and nation,
30 Haciendo que reine el hombre hipócrita para escándalos del pueblo.
that godless men should not rule or lay snares for the people.
31 Porque de Dios es decir: Yo perdoné, no destruiré.
Suppose someone says to God, ‘I have endured my punishment; I will offend no more.
32 Enséñame tú lo que yo no veo: que si hice mal, no lo haré más.
Teach me what I cannot see; if I have done wrong, I will not do it again.’
33 ¿ Ha de ser eso según tu mente? Él te recompensará, que no quieras tú, o quieras, y no yo: di lo que sabes.
Should God repay you on your own terms when you have disavowed His? You must choose, not I; so tell me what you know.
34 Los hombres de seso dirán conmigo, y el hombre sabio me oirá.
Men of understanding will declare to me, and the wise men who hear me will say:
35 Job no habla con sabiduría, y sus palabras no son con entendimiento.
‘Job speaks without knowledge; his words lack insight.’
36 Deseo que Job sea probado luengamente: para que haya respuestas contra los varones inicuos.
If only Job were tried to the utmost for answering like a wicked man.
37 Por cuanto a su pecado añadió impiedad: bate las manos entre nosotros, y multiplica sus palabras contra Dios.
For he adds rebellion to his sin; he claps his hands among us and multiplies his words against God.”
